Didn't have any free time yesterday, so catching up:

-The thing with remakes' strength mostly relies on how much they add to the original experience. Like, let's not forget that TP HD and WW HD are not remakes, but remasters, and those barely change anything at all. They are basically ports and have no relevance whatsoever. Link's Awakening and RE2 are clearly a fairly different experience that make the game stand on its own.

-People are underestimating how incredibly hated Sword/Shield were before release.

-Maybe Allen excluded KH3 after FFXV's fiasco? Or because he wanted to put lesser-known games in the spotlight? I don't know... Actually, I'd really like to see a match-up between those too. Who ya got?

-I don't really believe in recency bias unless it comes from a hyped game. Same for games that came out early in the year they can be sleeper hits and become strong over time. If a game is a hit, it will stay in people's minds. Just look at Sekiro: It was talked about a month or two after it came out and then it seemed to disappear, yet it has been performing very decently in this year's polls.

Totally different case. Golden Sun > San Andreas was pretty much a Charizard > Bowser case, where the new game in the series came out exactly the same day as the match in question.

Yeah, San Andreas is the strongest game in the series, but in a modern scenario I find it really difficult to believe Link's Awakening (2019) is anywhere near the level of Super Mario RPG.

Death Stranding not even taking second place is a bigger shock, though.

I disagree. I'd say the weakest years this decade in terms of strength were 2012, 2014, 2016, and maybe 2018. This was a fairly solid year from what I've seen.

Very interesting.

I didn't even know the actual show was out already, but it's nice having Netflix's bad reputation of ruining everything being slowly depured, particularly (and apparently) nailing Castlevania and now The Witcher.

Henry Cavill also prefers PC to consoles, haha.

I wouldnt allow remakes either. I love Links Awakening, but do you really want to see it in the semifinals?

I'd say it loses to games like Dark Souls III or GTA V.

Which is kind of far, but not that far. Maybe even Xenoblade 2 beats it.

Hmm... I don't think so. OoT had a crushing 95% against Hearthstone, and unlike the latter, Tri Force Heroes wasn't well received and doesn't have any kind of relevancy or following.

I think it depends on how you interpret the poll. As of right now, if we combine the 4th and 5th options ("upset with the cuts" + "used to be a Pokmon fan") it gives roughly 37%, so technically I'd be around 2% off my guess.

The head-stratcher for me here is the last option. It... shouldn't be so high. I'd figure "never been a Pokmon fan" =/= "never played a game in the series" just fine, but it's kind of hard for me to process the percentages between them.

I knew Rowlet was pretty popular when it was first revealed (Pokemon fans going crazy over it), but this poll pretty much proves it. I'm surprised it's currently in second place right now.

It's not so much Rowlet in itself, but rather Decidueye (its final form). Litten was actually the most popular Alolan starter until Incineroar came along and polarized the whole fanbase.

Honestly speaking, the only things that come to mind are the castle's entrance (on the outside) and the hall on the inside, with the statues, and the torture chamber to some extent.

While on this topic, definitely suggest playing CV Chronicles (another CV1 remake). Gets overshadowed by that other CV on PlayStation, but it's pretty good

I agree CV Chronicles is very good

I remember watching my older brother playing it back in the day, but I never played it myself. My 6/7-year-old self was too scared to look at those bloody, cut-in-half bodies in the torture chamber. As a Castlevania fan myself, being used to the series' enemies' looks and settings' aesthetics, I think that game crossed the line.

Tentacool would be anti-voted because that's the only Pokmon you encounter on your way surfing from Fuchsia city to Cinnabar Island. In the Hoenn games, Tentacools are mixed with Wingulls/Pelippers.

Heck, early Zelda games could easily be seen as remakes of the previous if you just want to hold them to the general story.

Now this is a really long stretch.

The original Legend of Zelda already had a remake on the SNES (even though it only came out in Japan). It was the same game with a sound/graphic update (sort of like Super Mario All-Stars), so that's a good point of reference.

I get your point, but I can't see SCIV as anything other than a remake. And the best one I've ever played, as well.

Port = Same game on another platform
Remaster = Same game, mere graphical update (unless I'm mistaken)
Remake = Game reworked from the ground up, mostly adding new features

Some updated games are in a blurry territory between "remake" and "remaster", like OoT 3D, which is pretty much the same game, but has a slightly different graphical style, a boss rush mode, and a mirrored hard mode. Majora's Mask 3D is more of a remake since it changed boss battle mechanics among other things.

My favorite remake of all time is Super Castlevania IV, which is a remake of Castlevania 1.

Seel and Krabby for most generic, I'd say.

At least Metapod and Kakuna are more common and recognizable (and maybe liked) for the evolutionary line they come from.

Most unpopular would be hard to gauge. It has to have a mix of forgettableness and lack of popularity. Funnily enough, Farfetch'd fits perfectly into that description, but... I'm not buying it. Voltorb and Mr. Mime would be good candidates, I'd say.

Well, that's a given, but I'm referring to Smash 4 in the last contest as the "new Smash" game at the time, which was split in two. My point is that it may have underperformed due to that. Smash Ultimate can't underperform in any way now (other than SFF).

I just realized Smash 4's performances may have not being as strong as they could've been in the last contest because of it only being encompassed as "Smash for Wii U" (excluding the 3DS version). I say this because I like making polls and I remembered this one:

Even though the Wii U version was the "main" one or the "superior" one, both versions had some differences (rather small, but still), and we know the Wii U's overall ownership was abysmal compared to the 3DS. Granted, the poll may be a very small sample, and people who only had the 3DS version back in 2015 may have just voted for the Wii U version by default...

...But, if enough people didn't really vote for "Smash for Wii U" because of the aforementioned, that means Smash Ultimate may be even stronger than we think.
