I think I found it. It's from The Neverending Story. There's a rock monster in that movie that looks very similar to the monster in my memories.

No, I think this movie was older than that. It didn't look like a sci-fi setting either. It was more of a fantasy movie (or at least it looked like it). The monster wasn't actually made of rocks. From my memory, the monster was part of the ground and it was a giant face. I think the kids may have been flying on a horse but I could be wrong about that.

When I was a kid, I saw my Grandpa watching this movie or show where these kids were fighting this giant monster that looked like a rock. I'm pretty sure they flew over it and dropped some sort of seed or something into it's mouth and it died. The monster looked like it was filmed in stop motion or claymation. Anyway, I've always wondered what movie or show that was. Perhaps CE knows?
