I had this discussion with my boss.

I was complaining because I'm thin and it's tough for me to eat alot and gain weight.

He (a big dude) laughed at me, saying it's so much easier to gajn.

My argument is simple, to lose weight, you literally don't have to do anything. It takes zero effort to NOT eat a shit ton.

However, to gain, you constantly got to make an effort. Cook the food, order the food, spend money, eat, eat, eat. All these things require constant effort. How is this easier than to simply do nothing?

I'm stuck at 160, at 6'1. Constantly hearing how thin I am. I even resorted to taking high end "supplements" to get bigger (yes, men can have body issues).

So if you're a big dude, and hate it, know that some people envy you. It's not all bad.

I'm 6'1", 145 lbs. I'd be happy just to get to your weight.

I've tried it all and come to the conclusion that for all intents and purposes it's not possible to gain weight while eating healthy. The people who say it's easy generally don't omit anything from their diet.

Anyway, I've learned to accept that I'll always be thin and try instead to focus on getting as strong as I can get at this weight. The body issues suck, though, yeah. You just learn to accept it after a certain point.

I'm 6'4 265 and it's crazy because back in 2012 I was only 210.

You just gotta indulge in things you normally wouldn't; it's more about calories in above all.

Yeah I can't really seem to get above 155lbs. I always end up getting super busy and only eat like two medium sized meals a day which isn't nearly enough for consistent weight gain.

I'm convinced that most fat people constantly lie about how much they really eat. It's just discouraging because they make it sound a lot easier than it really is.

I've always been skinny and even intentionally eating like shit and really fattening foods does nothing. For me gaining weight is pretty much impossible and if I were to actually try I could easily drop 10lbs off my already skinny ass.

But everyone is different though, for me gaining is harder and for other people losing is harder. It depends.

Evolutionary it would make sense that in times of surplus, you'd want to be able to easily store that energy for a later date, and that you'd want your body to dip into it's own internal stores for energy last. Which implies a preference for gaining weight over losing weight.

For many people, not eating takes a lot of mental effort and that can be harder to control than the effort needed to prepare and eat the food.

Don't listen to whoever told you that BS TC. It's just like the BS you're spewing about how it's easy to lose by not eating/doing anything.

Neither works like that!

People need to shut the fuck up and realize everyone has different hardships when getting in shape. The amount of times I've been told I'm too skinny or how "eating is good" or fat is evolutionary, all as if I'm doing it on purpose. The fuck outta here with that SHIT

Its much harder to lose weight, but that's mostly because not eating is hard.

But weight is entirely a CICO thing. Anyone who tells you otherwise is bullshitting you.

I put on 10 pounds in 3 months using protein shakes and having 2 big meals.

What it comes down to is calorie counting and also realizing putting on a pound of muscle is less calories than a pound of fat. So I eat food that will get me muscle quicker and I work out.

And you need to dedicate your day to it. Most people's baselines are 2500 2800 if you exercise. Mine is 3000 cause of my illness. So I need to get 500 or 1000 extra calories. It's all about consistency. And I feel the people who claim they can't do it aren't consistent.

I don't like to say my weight here but for example I will.

In 2012 I had to go into the hospital. Struggling. Couldn't breathe well so I couldn't eat well. I was 5'11 116 pounds. Sad!

When I came out? I are everything. Put 30 pounds on in 6 months. Then 20 pounds in the next 6 months. It wasn't quality weight though. I was 163 and had a gut. So I got sick again in 2015. I was 133. Went on my protein diet. Put on 20 pounds in the first year. 10 in 3 months. 153 probably 8 or 7 percent body fat. I weighed less than my highest but looked much better.

So now these last few months I've been on maintenance because dedicating your whole day to eating is annoying.

Incorrect. For a lot of people it requires a lot of effort to resist the urge to eat

CICO really misses the point. Your nervous system has developed through hundreds of thousands of years of evolution, and many embedded feedback systems make it so the actual biology of obesity and weight gain way more complicated than you think. There's a reason why obesity is a very active field of research. And it's not because these scientists are so dumb that they can't understand CICO.

Spend a day with one of those people who are over 6 feet tall while under 150 lbs who claim they eat a lot but don't gain any weight. They go til 3 pm without eating anything and then eat a snickers bar. Then at 7pm they might eat a hamburger and fries. Sure, they eat a lot, according to themselves.

Interesting. As someone mentioned, I have to dedicate my whole day to eating to gain. That's determination. Forcing food down when you simply don't want to.

I wouldn't say trying to get bigger is a charcter flaw either.

Evolution makes it so that the bigger and stronger males are prized. It's not bad being a healthy "big".

That's me on most days unfortunately. I just don't have the time or patience to constantly eat.

Yeah we're on the same boat.

I had given up because nothing was working. Eating constantly made me feel like shit. Weight gainers made me tire and bloated.

I am gaining some weight taking testosterone (medium sized doses, once a week). Makes me feel more like a man too. Hoping to see huge improvements.

Have you tried lifting TC?? if you want to gain, then try to make it quality weight.

But yo answer your question, that depends entirely on the person. Theoretically speaking, Maybe it is easier to gain because your body naturally wants to store fat to save for times of famine

But in in practice, some people can not eat all day and be ok. Some people love working out and being active. Some people can't put the fork down to save their lives. It's variable

Different bodies do different things with different genetics.

Some people simply can't pack on the weight and others blow up after a potato chip, but regardless everyone needs to eat healthy. A lot of skinny folk are starting to get fatty liver disease, which is something doctors thought alcoholics and obese people got. These people eat a bunch of crap, don't gain the weight, but the rest of the issues with junk food still persists.

As someone mentioned before, CICO missed the point, even though it does follow the laws of thermodynamics. It does work on the most basic level, but it's not a very efficient method. A lot bigger thing than calories is how a person's hormones react
