You would think that having only 8 episodes would mean they would skip all the bullshit and hit on all the important points, but no! This was the dullest and most meandering plot of all the series so far.

Less happens in 8 episodes of Defenders than in 2 episodes of Game of Thrones, and that's not an exaggeration. Shit that happened on episode 6 is what should have happened on episode 2. I can't believe how much time the writers devoted to the heroes standing around and deliberating. Deliberating about things that the audience already knows. I think I lost count over how many times they felt the need to reiterate that (minor spoilers) the Hand wants to kidnap Danny Rand, and they gotta do something about it! But throughout the show, and not until the very end, they do nothing except hide from the Hand. And the Hand are even worse than the heroes are in this respect. Every scene of theirs is boring and they're all inevitably about the same thing. They don't like what their leader is doing, and they super duper want the MacGuffin. We're told that they are working on something, but just about all we see them do is nag each other.

I can't believe that these are the same people that wrote Killgrave, Kingpin, and Punisher. In fact, I'm almost certain they aren't. I think the Iron Fist writers tied up all the writers from Daredevil and Jessica Jones and seized control of the entire project, because WOW these are the worst villains so far, and after Iron Fist, that's saying a lot.

And the action scenes suck. It may be because the guy who plays Daredevil is the only one of them who has any talent, but in Jessica Jones they still managed to make the fights exciting.

Lastly, the editing really sucks. Again no spoilers, but there's a scene near the end where Luke Cage stares down a bunch of SWAT officers with guns pointed at him. There's a cut to another scene, and when the scene cuts back to Luke, he's running with the gang to bring people to an ambulance, with police all around. So, did he not fight those cops? How'd he get away without any of the police giving a shit? Did he have a heartfelt conversation with the lot of them about how, even though they have every reason to believe he and his friends are committing a crime, they should just let bygones be bygones and let them go?

That's NOT the only time something like that happens, but it's just the most ridiculous example I can remember. Best-case scenario, the writers wrote themselves into a corner and hoped the audience wouldn't notice.

tl;dr: I'd skip it. What a waste of 8 hours of my life.

Luke Cage was the only Defender that was likable. Murdock spent the entire time angsting hard, he had a good reason, doesn't change that he was an ass. Jessica Jones largely complained that the whole thing was stupid and wanted out until it was obvious she couldn't get out.

Danny fucking Rand... Luke tells him that beating street level thugs wont get him anything so what does he do? Goes to the Hand's corporate headquarters and threaten them with a lawsuit. When asked if he thought if they were hiding from him his response "Yes it does look like your hiding behind shell corporations and people... Oh was that not a retoracle question? Why are these businessmen pulling weapons?" Oops

yea, Defenders was pretty bad. not as terrible as Iron Fist, but maybe because IF was a main character, it dragged down any quality the series might have had.

not to say that the other three were great, but I felt I could at least get behind their characters for a bit.

What was the point of that Luke Cage scene with the cops near the end? That was really weird now that I think about it.

Also why is the hand using street level gear against the defenders? This is the third season where they have fought with Iron fist or daredevil and they are still throwing mooks with knives and clubs.

What happened to the world where street level thugs like Cottonmouth or Vulture have access to advanced tech capable of taking our heroes down?

I liked the part where they all decided Danny was a liability, beat the crap out of him, and left him tied to a chair while they got stuff done without him. I mean obviously it backfired, but they had the right idea, just keep him away from the important stuff.

Cottonmouth pulled up his bootstraps and did more to threaten Luke in the first two episode than the Hand has done to the other heroes in 3 seasons.

Shit, forgot to include Cottonmouth as one of the great villains.

But yes in the first episode he exudes more menace than Sigourney Weaver does the entire time in Defenders. And it takes some supremely bad writing to make Sigourney suck.

I just hated how danny still sucked. I thought maybe since some time had passed from IF to defenders that he would have stepped up his game, but nope he was still getting punked by random thugs. You're telling me Daredevil is a significantly better martial artist than the guy who trained in a mystical place AND he has mystical powers? It's just silly. I will say I loved the Matt Elektra chemistry/story. They should have let him die instead of having what appears to be his mom save him >.>

The show was a huge disappointment for me.

Somehow, they completely wasted Sigourney Weaver. The Hand was a complete joke. Are you seriously telling me that their most powerful weapon, The Black Sky, is just some chick who has enhanced strength and is really good at fighting? That's your unstoppable weapon in a world where The Hulk and Thor exist? Give me a fucking break.

Not to mention inconsistent showings again. Electra can punch Luke Cage and hurt him but somehow, those same punches do not completely knock out Daredevil or Iron Fist? Okay. The fight choreography was lacking once again. I love Wu Tang Clan but playing them in the final fight felt so out of place.

Anything involving Daredevil was good because he's the most compelling and developed character. Also, we got to hear Sigourney Weaver say baka which was neat.

Seriously, The Hand is a huge deal in the comics. They don't feel like shit in this. Muh Black Sky. Muh immortality. Please. If villains like The Vulture can feel more threatening than an entire criminal organization dating back centuries, then you fucked up.
