If you actually read the patent it's very clearly about specifically protecting games that look, play and are programmed exactly like Scarlet and Violet. The internet is out of control with rage bait and misinformation on this one. Still don't love seeing game mechanics in general getting patented, but this one is honestly almost completely harmless compared to something like the Nemesis System getting locked away for ages.

I just don't see how Hollow Knight can be considered "hard" overall. I'm horrible at video games and I can play Hollow Knight. If Hollow Knight is hard, what is something like Dead Cells? A game with much faster paced combat that I can barely keep up with. Or Hades, as an example, where I can barely process melee combat at all. Nevermind Dark Souls which I can't get past the tutorial in.

Is it harder than the average metroidvania? Sure, though even then, from what I recall, stuff like Fusion's Nightmare or Prime 2's Boost Guardian set the bar decently high. I do agree it forces you to get better and better as the game goes on, and I don't think the game is easy, but I think in the grand scale of gaming, there's no way it's on the harder side. I mean, there's no parry. Parry games are my #1 enemy because I barely have the reaction speed to just *dash* out of the way, much less parry at a specific pixel! Hollow Knight doesn't require that, thank god.

I'll die on the hill that Hollow Knight is maybe the best game ever made and certainly the best metroidvania. It's not for everyone and it does have a slow start, though.
