As far as published material yeah comic books are on the money. Lots of stuff with Harriet Tubman as a demon slayer or Lincoln Vampire Hunter. The Manhattan Projects is an alt history with historical figures as deranged mad scientist types.

So putting historical figures in over the top SFF situations isn't unique though I'm sruggling to think of anything as overtly horny as gachas at least in US fiction

Oh really? I've never seen a WAR use it to this extent before. Whatever they did to it, it seemed to be able to heal me while retaining the ability to solo heal itself at the same time which is what is truly impressive. I suppose PLD could do that with Clemency but that's always a bit clunky.

Had an expert roulette where I got the last MSQ dungeon. On the last boss, the healer and BLM ate complete shit and died at about 50%. That boss puts out a crazy amount of aoe damage for a dungeon boss so we're just screwed, right?

Well. The tank was a warrior. And apparently WAR can heal other players now? And they can do it REALLY WELL? So with some clutch second winds and Troubador use, I did not die.

WAR has always had the best self-healing but this was insane. Straight up blue healer shit.

Finally hit AR 55.

RIP to rank up rewards. They were nice while it lasted.

Are the character designs and writing this trash in Fate? Because that's the appalling part.

I think you can get all the way there or 1 piece off just from 720 tomestones if you go for right side gear first.

I have 4 tome accs plus dungeon ring and that's 563 or something.

My next upgrade will be the weapon though, that might do it.

New crafting gear (as in for DoH/DoL) most likely won't be coming until 6.1. It's usually odd patches for the best in slot crafted set, even patches for scrip gear catchup sets.

Crafted battle gear I thought would drop at the same time as normal raids but evidently not, no mention of new recipes.

The swordplay is a bit jank but if you're struggling with it spec into light attacks and Whirl because it's busted

Whatever you decide it's better to focus skill points into one discipline early rather than attempting a balance. For example the potions build eventually makes you an unkillable damage sponge but it isn't worth investing into partially when you don't have a lot of skill points.

Patch notes usually go up very shortly after the servers are down. Like 10-15 minutes, definitely within an hour.

See now this is wild. There's a couple options for what is happening here.

1. Manchin lied to Biden about his commitment and went back on it (what Jayapal claims)
2. Manchin is lying to Jayapal about NOT committing to protect his reputation
3. Manchin really didn't commit, but Biden lied to Jayapal to get her to pass the infrastructure bill
4. Jayapal is just trying to save face for not blocking infrastructure when she had the chance

Whatever way you slice it this just a complete mess of incompetence on display

You don't have to go for crazy overmelding though, cheap melds are often good enough!

Scrip gear is also "good enough" but I really think the extra CP/GP from crafted gear makes an enormous difference all by itself. That might not totally be the case with this tier but it's always been true for me in the past.

Scrip gear is a trap anyways since even doing minimal melds for breakpoints and CP/GP usually provides a lot of utility

And again, I do not think Manchin actually defects. I think that's a huge bluff and people are giving him entirely too much credit. Specifically, you would not give him the CHANCE to defect. You threaten a speedy investigation into an immediate arrest, he loses his seat, and you force a special election and hand it to McConnell. Basically "if you're going to blow us up anyways we are taking you down with us." Obviously that is not a favorable scenario for Manchin.

Just taking the case to court is going to cost him money which is probably enough of a motivating factor on its own. I also think it would probably be very easy to prove corruption charges if they wanted to, given that it's an open secret.

I also don't think Republicans go to bat for him in court if he defects. Why bother when you can easily fill WV's seat with someone more conservative in the next election that doesn't have a corruption scandal? Either way, if the plan is just to wait around twiddling thumbs until the next Senate election anyways what's the harm?

also "good policy doesn't help win elections" is not a good excuse to not pass good policies. If they truly don't affect each other then they're separate issues.

I understand that. My point is that the Dems dont have the majority they need to get everything they want. Manchins been saying that he might let them have some stuff, but they have to actually prioritize what they want the most.

I think they should make their priority investigating Manchin for corruption and putting him in jail

But we can't afford to split it into individual bills because it is so hard to pass bills through the Senate in the first place. That's the whole point. You tie things together in a package deal to increase the chances more things get passed.

I don't agree that Dems don't have options for dealing with Manchin, but even if I did the problem is that leadership has consistently promised they had ways around him while displaying a lack of ability to deliver.

If he really is a hard no now that sucks, but they were previously refusing to accept his demand that the programs in the bill actually be 10 year programs (since they would not actually be fully paid for if extended). This change would actually make the bill better since the programs are otherwise very likely *not* going to be extended due to likely GOP control of at least one house of Congress when they expire. Manchin has been saying that this is how he wanted BBB structured for a while now; it shouldn't be coming as a surprise that it's not negotiable for him.

I don't understand how this could possibly be the case given that Manchin is also demanding that they lower the price tag of the bill. He wants them to spend less over a longer period of time? Seems incredibly bad faith.

Tony is right about the infrastructure bill. Progressives didn't want to pass it unless they could guarantee that BBB was also passed with the stuff they wanted in it. Biden and the Dem leadership convinced the progressive caucus that if they passed the infrastructure bill anyways, they'd find a solution for the other.

They didn't.

So apparently Manchin is just completely out of Build Back Better now.

It was already a joke that Dems haven't been able to pass it this year, and that's despite the cuts to it. But at this rate it's looking like the whole thing is just dead. Ridiculous.

Role quests give EXP about on par with MSQ ones so that and trials is going to get me there before leveling even pops.

I felt that way about Gorou's trial too. I think he is like Thoma in that he's a utility bot and isn't very versatile. I don't see much discussion about trying to build them as DPS.

There are some fanmade censuses (luckybancho) which use lodestone data on character (not account) level and story progress (basically out of free trial range) which is very nebulous but better than nothing? But according to those the game hovered between 900k-1.2m during Shadowbringers, then peaked at 1.6m at the start of last month. It's not unreasonable to think that's an underestimate and we are around the 2m active players range. If true that would be almost a doubling of activity.

After trying Itto and hearing he's alright with just Gorou and Geo Traveler, I was about to pull for him at least to the 50/50. His charge attacks feel super strong and unique.

Then I saw Gorou needs Dango Pearls for ascension and Spectral Husks for talents and am now reevaluating my desire to build an Itto comp.

Well yes I'm saying they would have had to do future proofing and invested in going beyond their expected baseline. Which is not their MO. Hell, doing the opposite and tweaking what they have is the only reason the game still exists.

I don't really blame them for that choice. Just saying that given how the game has been consistently successful for years now, they expanded the free trial to get more players, and also that Yoshi-P seems to want to keep FF14 going until he dies, it wouldn't have been unreasonable to do some big upgrades just in case. But that's hindsight.

I'm gonna hazard a shot in the dark here and say I doubt that FF14 was working with the latest and greatest server tech before this, too. The devs have a pretty frugal and meticulous way of upgrading tech. The issues with instanced player housing for example is something devs and players both point to as an indicator of resource priorities. I think comparing 4.0 to 5.0 launch shows they are very good now at estimating the maximum they need and minimum they can get away with for a normal expansion.

It's just...this was not a normal expansion so it wasn't nearly good enough!

Or more succinctly, yeah it's not nearly as simple as throwing more money at the problem but it does help and man do I hope the suits at squeenix HQ let them splurge a little in the future!

Basically, everything in her future/your past led to you coming back to tell her about the Final Days, so she had to make sure everything happened the way it did in your past or else you wouldn't have come back to tell her about what happened. Can't go causing any time paradoxes!

It's this from a logistical standpoint but I don't know WHY they don't outright state it at this point. Her stated reasons in-universe are what Ganon says and are pretty flimsy. Not trusting Fandaniel is one thing but why not Emet or at least Hythlodeus? It creates this weirdly written half-justification instead of her just embracing the loop. And the thing is, with how we know time travel works in this universe she COULD feel free to change the future from that point and create an offshoot timeline (the Exarch's original timeline still exists, after all). That's getting a little too wacky and this is getting a lot too nitpicky though!

Anyways I'm not through the whole game so maybe there's more context I'm missing, but I do have another question about that scene I just thought of

When Venat is walking through the ruins of Amaurot, she passes Emet and Hythlodaeus. But we know that Hythlodaeus was one of the sacrifices to form Zodiark. We talk to him on the moon about it! He couldn't have possibly been around at the time of the Sundering, which she is on her way to do. What's up with that?

SAME. Odd considering most skipped the winter coat in Garlemald, but then so did your NPC party the second Tower of Babil was about to be breached.

So with the earlier one I noticed a few people were still glamming winter outfits but there was a lot more variety that wasn't just Tataru's new coat. I personally did the coat because it looked good on my character, and I didn't have a winter glam. But it was still less people overall than were in the robes.

Hmm...I'm sitting on 110 wishes at 40 pity. That's basically a guarantee by the time Itto banner ends.

I dunno. Maybe I'll go for Itto if Gorou+Geo Traveler is viable for him. Don't have Zhongli or Albedo which is really the only thing holding me back. Then again, even though I don't have an optimal team for Xiao either he's probably safer.

(well, potentially Ganyu would be the safest to pull for but I don't care about her much)

Just beat the 77 dungeon last night. Midway through 88 stuff now. Some thoughts. BIG SPOILERS obv
- Meteion 2good for this world. Perfectly engineered character. Good storytelling is when you can see all the cheap tricks the writers are doing to get you to feel a way and it still works. I KNEW something tragic would happen, didn't expect full Jokerization into a big bad but I am still sad about it.
- Similarly, props to the writers for getting me to care about Venat/Hydaelyn who I pretty aggressively disliked going into Endwalker
- It is unintentionally funny to me that FF14 has answered the classic "why would a loving god allow suffering to exist?" question with "she needs people to suffer to win a bet."
- never going to get over the scene where you explain the plot of the entire game to the gang and they just start nitpicking the details for not making sense, culminating in Emet declaring the whole thing to be bullshit and storming out. Wonderful stuff. Also love Emet's confession at the very end that he doesn't believe you because he refuses to be a doomer. This does actually add more depth to his character even though the memory wipe stuff has to happen as a plot contrivance.
- love doing this as elf and having a tallboi party in my amurot robes, also loved to see so many other players glamming the robes to commit to the bit

Well, it is. It's not "literal fairy."

Genderfae is describing a specific nonbinary, specific genderfluid identity that does not include maleness. Which is different from "a woman" because sometimes a fae would not feel like a woman. And sometimes someone might feel this way but not want to use these pronouns anyways.

So this is another good reason to respect neopronouns in general because sometimes they are describing some real phenomenon but just about all the discussion is that it has a silly name.
