It's an unfortunate waste, but I don't see that there are really any other options. If they can't guarantee the safety of the food, they can't in good conscience give it to anyone else. In truth, lacking the necessary permits is probably more a matter of red tape than a genuine safety concern, but the law can't tell the difference.

Why do so many people have no comprehension of how vaccines work?

It kinda does, since that's often where they make a lot of their profit.

They lose out on potential earnings, but there's rarely any direct loss associated with not selling drinks, outside of extreme cases. Drinks tend not to be particularly perishable, so provided you're selling enough to get through a shipment in less than a couple years, you'll be okay. Wine and milk are the most noteworthy exceptions, but in the case of wine, glasses are typically priced such that they lose very little on the opened bottle if they only sell 1-2 glasses and there are often many opportunities to use an opened bottle in the kitchen, and milk is used in so many food dishes that drink sales are a fairly small portion of that.

That said, as you say, drinks are a major revenue source for most restaurants, given that their high margins can compensate for lower prices on other items, so many restaurants' pricing schemes will operate under the assumption that a certain number of drinks are selling. If they don't sell that many drinks, that can lead to losing money overall, even though they aren't losing money on the drinks themselves.

That harm is a consequence of how people are behaving on the platform, not anything the platform itself is doing or can reasonably control, so correcting the harm is going to have to involve a cultural shift.

BEERandWEED posted...
If we stop killing for profit, feeding to sustain and housing to maintain, there would be substantially less death, guaranteed.

Now you're comparing a statistical reduction in death to an individual case. If the entire world were to be vaccinated against Covid, there would be substantially fewer Covid deaths, guaranteed. Meanwhile, you cannot necessarily guarantee that any individual death from violence, starvation, or exposure would be prevented by peacekeeping, food, or housing initiatives.

Also, once again, taking two shots is not remotely comparable to the difficulty and effort involved in eliminating war, famine, and homelessness. Heck, it's not even comparable to the difficulty and effort involved in ensuring that one person is saved from those things. Nor, for that matter, is this one kid getting vaccinated in any way mutually exclusive of global efforts to reduce the impacts of those things. It's not a good analogy, and it's not a matter of choosing to focus on one over the other, so why are you even bringing it up?

Yeah that sounds odd. Like I wonder if maybe he got the staph infection from the hospital environment.

The way duckbear's described it, it sounds like he developed the infection before he got to the hospital, which isn't that unbelievable. S. aureus is pretty commonly found on the skin and in the upper respiratory tract; pretty much anything that compromises the integrity of those areas creates the risk of it getting into other parts of the body and creating an infection (hospital-acquired staph tends to be associated with intravenous and urinary catheters, since they risk introducing external pathogens into the blood). In this case, Covid's damage to his sinuses created an opportunity for the staph to move in and cause further trouble.

I'd still say this was in poor taste, but the key difference is in how he reacted to it. When somebody who's done blackface in the past apologizes for it and generally acts in a manner that indicates they recognize it was wrong and they are more sensitive to the issue now, forgiving them is reasonable. When somebody who's done blackface in the past starts going on about their "right to free expression" and "snowflake cancel culture" and "fascist political correctness" without ever actually admitting it was in poor taste or apologizing for it, there's not much reason to forgive them for it.

It's creeping up, fuelled in no small part by students coming back and presumably with a larger surge incoming from a massive street party said students held last weekend. We had been doing extremely well (averaging 0-1 cases per day), but that inevitable fourth wave has arrived and we had 83 yesterday (7DA of 29). Fortunately, the government walked back the plan to eschew mask requirements on the 15th, which stuck me as being very silly because the proof-of-vaccine plan isn't being implemented until this coming Monday. We'll see what happens with that.

Fortunately, we are doing quite well for vaccines (over 80% of eligible people vaxxed, over 70% of the total population), and compliance with control measures has been pretty good because we've seen considerable success in the past (which does wonders for motivation). Hopefully, this won't be nearly as bad as the third wave (which can be entirely traced back to a single family coming from Ontario and failing to isolate), since that hit before most of us were eligible for vaccines.

I'll use the D-Pad all the time for those games that'll allow it (older games, Disgea 5 lets you move around with either, etc).

For the Lite, that makes sense. Being built into the system makes drift much harder to resolve. For regular Joycons, though, I'm using ones that do drift while avoiding using ones that don't for the sake of making sure that I retain the option of using non-drifting ones in case I really need them some day. It's the controller equivalent of hoarding Elixirs.

Almost at the end of Bloodstained, which has been great but has also taken me a while because it's been hard to find the time (also I lost a rather large chunk of progress to an inconvenient crash and was too annoyed to go back to it for a while).

I've consistently got NGU Idle running in the background of whatever I'm doing, because I'm a sucker for a good idle game.

You also have not, at any point, indicated that you made any effort to legitimately break off said marriage prior to cheating, nor that your ex-wife was in any way okay with you sleeping with other women. So... Yeah, you cheated and bailed on your wife. Your gonadal deficiencies in that regard mean it's no surprise that you refuse to grow a pair and own up to that now, but you still shouldn't expect people to stop giving you a hard time for it. I'm presuming it's not a muscular soreness, since you do enough other exercising that I wouldn't expect biking a couple miles to do that to you, but that may mean you need a different saddle. Give it a couple days to get used to it, but if it doesn't get better, you may want to shop around a bit.
