I want to say it was called The Blue and the Gray but I'm not finding it.

It was a shareware game between maybe 1993 and 1996. \

Game started out either as the north or south and you chose your cabinet. With Lincoln it was possible to get like West Virginia immediately, Kentucky, Tennessee, maybe Missouri. Deep south always seceded but you might get a couple of states to stay if you appoint someone from there in a good position or don't react too aggressively with Ft. Sumter.

Up until Diablo 2 it was probably my most played game. It was a DOS game, had to c: that shit.

Now I'm curious. Are you sure it wasn't north and south?

I personally think people are overestimating themselves against large dogs, it's weird there's such a big disparity between large dogs and wolves. It's bigger than the difference between elephants and wolves in both absolute and relative terms. Not saying that big dogs and wolves are the same, but they should be closer than wolves and elephants

You can just throw a towel over them in my experience. Though that would still count as a weapon.

I wouldn't want to try to smash any animals with my bare hand

My favorites are the episodes where a lot of characters interact, like the flood episode or the Thanksgiving episode where they get stuck at the airport. Obviously I do like other episodes, too, but even then it's usually an emphasis on some group dynamic that makes it interesting, like the Christmas episode with Jimmy Carter or the Christmas episode where bill acts like Lenore (?)

So I voted extended family, thought that was the closest

I'm not saying it would pass the next day if we trimmed it down, I'm saying it would be a lot easier to negotiate and swing some votes if there's only one issue at hand. Convincing somebody that "weed should be legal" is a lot easier than convincing someone that "weed should be legal, all previous convictions should be overturned, taxes should be higher to fund community reconstruction, and agencies should be formed to ensure that certain groups of people participate in the marijuana industry."

Do you see how one would be an easier sell than the other? Do you understand where my reasoning is coming from?

Yes but I think it's naive and still grounded in your inability to step outside your own narrow perspective.

For one thing, there are lots of people who are just as or more concerned with overturning old convictions as making sure it's legal going forward. It's easy to intellectualize it when it doesn't affect you, but it's much harder when your family is imprisoned for something people are now telling you is cool.

The "weed should be legal" argument never worked on it's own. The impetus here is clearly to appease the growing marijuana industry, so that they can have access to real financial institutions - though even with that caveat it doesn't seem to be a compelling argument to much of the gop (lots don't live in weed states, or if they do they tightly control the market with state level regulations)

And anyway, if you make weed legal, maybe that takes away all the pressure and pubic support and you never get any retroactivity...

Now maybe this is all wrong. But if you can accept and understand that it's a thing people actually care about rather than just political posturing, maybe you can think of a real solution

I'm not talking about their individual pension, I'm talking about the fund that pays out their pensions. All of this is funded by taxpayers, they're public employees.

I also am fine with taxpayers generally paying for it if that's how you want to interpret the local government paying it out of general revenue or whatever

I actually thought taking it from their pension fund was a pretty good idea lol.

You definitely need to do something that incentivizes different behavior, not just something that punishes individual cops. I know there are ideas about requiring insurance out there which might do the trick but idk much about that honestly.

I don't know. I thought that would be a matter of common sense, but I was assuming people who voted on bills actually wanted things to happen. I forgot that there are special interest portions of the legislature that will spite-vote any bill that gives them something they want if it doesn't give them everything they want.

My mistake for forgetting that congress is perpetually stuck in the mud.

What you forgot is not everyone thinks like you do. People have different perspectives. You're arguing with some

Ultimately, though, whatever the technically correct strategy is here, you need to seriously reconsider your perspective. All of your arguments so far have been premised on the idea that the gop really does want to make progress, and Democrats don't. But that seems a weird claim if you look at any vote on marijuana laws pretty much ever.

I agree with you that it will be difficult to give aid to communities hurt by the War on Drugs thanks to the Republicans, but do you really think that issue is worth not legalizing marijuana, which will mean that people cant use marijuana to benefit them and that more people will be arrested and convicted for using marijuana in the meantime?

Why do they need any republican support at all? What a bizarre conversation.
