And my boss said he appreciates all my hard work over the past year.

Feels good man. I've really been struggling lately and felt like I was letting the rest of the team down. But I guess I am in charge of many more projects this year than I have been in the past, so maybe feeling behind constantly just comes with the territory.

Anyway blogfaqs

Yes and no. Police are mostly paid through municipal and county budgets, which in many places come from property taxes, but not always. Other common taxes are franchise fees for utilities and sales taxes

The heel turn stuff was just terrible. It's not even how long it takes, that's more of an effect of the problem than a cause of it. Even joffrey was less cartoonishly evil for no good reason. All of the defenses I've seen of it are pretty thin, attempting to say that it's obviously going to happen when you look at the people she's killed. But GoT takes pains to clue you in that not killing people can be worse than killing people, that's more or less the point of Ned's whole storyline as a send up of the noble lord trope (not to mention the books and show kind of directly have him convey that to you the reader, through speaking to his kids). Besides, the reasoning you use is important for character development. Even if she's evil for burning slave traders alive, it's an issue with some level of nuance that her character and the viewer both acknowledge. There was little to none of that in the last few episodes

I honestly haven't played enough modern games to make that comparison lol. I was more thinking previous generations.

Trying to rank consoles seriously is just a weird project. It's fun to try but only if you don't take it too seriously. The thing is the irl success of consoles relies on a lot of stuff the audience never sees directly so just looking at game quality is sort of misguided

People overrate the PS2. Yes the top tier games were amazing and revolutionary but the far, far majority were average or worse and an average PS2 game is awful today.

Also that was when gamers were really weird about cartoony games and 2D games.

I understand what you're saying but I think it applies generally and not just to the ps2. So I disagree that it's a reason the ps2 is overrated.

I'd also push back a little on the 2d thing. Not a ton of new 2d games (though not none either) but that was the era we finally started getting acceptable arcade ports. That was a big deal to me earlier in the systems lifespan

Without digging into too much, yes I do find that surprising. From what I understand, happiness over time converges for most people, like even victims who suffer major and irreversible damage aren't less happy than similarly situated people who didn't go through that. At least that was my understanding, I'm not a psychologist. So maybe it was life satisfaction rather than happiness and I'm misremembering

TopicIs there a race wage gap?
Balrog0
05/17/21 10:55:10 AM
#13
I feel like it's pretty well discussed. The pay gap literature is always comparing to white men specifically from what I can tell.

I think the reason race gets brought up less in the specific discussion of pay is that there are many other aspects of reality that are obviously racist that get more play. You see it in this topic, in more and less toxic forms, with people talking about education and opportunity. The pay gap still exists if you control for those, for both gender and race, but it's harder to deflect to something else with (white) women, who seemingly get every opportunity white men get these days.

Though my social circle isn't typical, I have seen many people complain that the gender wage gap that's often cited is misleading, because it compares all women to white men, which obviously isn't fair because white women make more than black and brown women
