I dont believe this graphic one bit.

Is this based on the median listed salary or actual? Because police use and abuse overtime pay to get a lot of money.

Probably have to pay well so that they'll actually teach in those backwards-ass states.

Also worth noting that teachers in CA for example get paid much better than those other states, even if cops make more. Teachers in much of the south and midwest make crap

Probably an Internet hot take but I am fine with cops making more than teachers. IMO cop is a more intense and demanding job. Not saying teachers aren't too, but not quite to the same level.

This is not accurate. I don't know how else to say it but the median income for a teacher in Louisiana is not 61k.

The average income is 40k for a teacher in Baton Rouge (the state capital).

you might be thinking of new teachers. Teaching has a TON of burnout early on and it's a career where people who do stay, stay around for a long time, which likely brings the figure up.

this figure shows that new teachers make up a tiny piece of the pie of teachers.

Yes. Teacher salaries are simply not that high. My guess is they are including things like principles, super-intendants, and other administrators and calling them "teachers."

So in reality this map probably shows where administrator pay is out of control, not where education is actually supported.

Yes and no. Police are mostly paid through municipal and county budgets, which in many places come from property taxes, but not always. Other common taxes are franchise fees for utilities and sales taxes

Most college professors don't make nearly this much (source: I am one, and I know 100 others like me).

Most of the money is locked into huge salaries for tenured professors, who are overwhelmingly baby boomers, and maybe Gen X. The rest goes to pay administrators to do basically nothing 80% of the time.

Millennials are paid very low, kept as "contract workers" for years without any kinds of benefits, or are grad students who are actually paying the university to teach.

In California, idk about other states, there is no difference in pay for a district from k-12. You are paid on seniority only. Not subject. Not grade.

Yeah I'm not saying there's necessarily a difference, but I checked the bls and secondary and elementary are treated separately. Just noting that this is specifically 'elementary.' I don't think it's different here in Arkansas either but I'm not sure

In my state there is a college that will give you a degree in teaching for free provided you work at a school of their choice for 2 years. Which to my understanding is usually impoverished schools. In the grand scheme of things 2 years aint bad for a 4 year degree to be paid off.
