Fauci's position wasn't "lying." You have to understand that in the early in the pandemic, random people were trying to use masks to prevent themselves from contracting covid. Masks help at a very marginal level for this purpose, they are MUCH more effective at preventing spread from carriers than preventing contraction. So, it made sense to recommend not wearing a mask for those not at high risk of contracting the disease - until we discovered the rate of asymptomatic spreaders was very high. There is a lot of nuance to explain here and so officials followed the "keep it simple, stupid" advice everyone seems to love in every other situation.

Obviously this discussion shows people have trouble with these concepts.

It's a bit farther off but after beating the initial 50 story there are a ton of level 50 sidequest dungeons and trials to do before you even unlock those roulettes.

In particular keep an eye out for the Crystal Tower sidequests which give a ton of poetics, unlock the Alliance Roulette (another good source of EXP and tomes), and actually have a major plotline.

The characters the creator gives you generally look pretty good, so I'm happy with it.

And I think this is it, it feels like they removed total customization to fine-tune how each option looks. So you end up with good-looking characters but it flattens the variety. I'm not big into character creators but I think this is not a great choice considering how much they were hyping it up.

ARR is up to level 50. You might have to do a bit of actual grinding near the end, since story quests stop giving absurd amounts of XP around level 45ish.

Did they fix the weird gap in the 2.0 MSQ where they expect you to go grind out 4 or 5 levels to get into the last trial and dungeon?

Quick nock has been awesome, I use it all the time while traversing dungeons. And now that I read it also can re-up RoD, I'll have to have both of those on the same pad!

Don't know about apex arrow, but I assume that's not unlocked until later.

During mage's ballad the dot ticks can also reset RoD so it's very important to dot enemies during aoe as well. This is less important right now because the % chance is very low but it will keep going up and up as you level so you might as well start getting a feel for it.

It sounds like you're playing with a controller so unfortunately I don't have any hotbar advice for you

I voted for 15 minutes but my thinking was for round trip quick visits so 30 minutes. For a longer purpose like work commute or a night out or something, a longer walk is fine although that is a lot of commute time to do regularly.

Like I said before, my friend who is a producer at Ubisoft cannot understand how this happened because their studio has an extensive check for seizure-inducing scenes that happens throughout development and is one of the highest priority things they check for.

This shouldn't be something that slips through the cracks.

The same person doing the callout on Cyberpunk said they did something similar for an Activision game three years ago and worked with them to change it, so I'm not making excuses but it sounds more common than it should be.

I feel like it has to be pointed out that the journalist never claimed there was no seizure warning in the EULA. They were talking about there being no in-game warning. If you think that people actually put stock in generic seizure warnings in EULAs for enormous games you're delusional.

like the blunt question here is basically how much of this game is just "Witcher 3 but cyberpunk."

The one somewhat consistent take I see is that Witcher 3 is a better game and is doing more and better things with the source material. Cyberpunk 2077 isn't "the Witcher 3 of cyberpunk" but it is "cyberpunk from the makers of Witcher 3."

As a related point, I've seen a mixed consensus on if the game has the same "heart" that W3 does. The main plot seems to be relatively standard cyberpunk heist shit (with ya boy Keanu). The rest of the game...some people say the tone is too edgy, some people say it's got a lot of positivity, others say it's a mixed bag. It seems to depend on the sidequests people do, because there is both high praise and ambivalence towards them. What that is saying to me is that CDPR's writing has some great parts at the micro level but the game is so massive that they might have diluted what made W3 great. And obviously a bigger game means more chances to drop the ball.

Basically that it's mostly a rehash of 80s cyberpunk themes and culture. Executed with spot-on attention to detail but not really making any attempt to innovate a modern take on the genre aside from the parallels that have been there since Blade Runner and Neuromancer. That might not be a bad thing to the target audience that just wants to revel in the 80s-ness of it all, but it's disappointing to some that they aren't really taking the opportunity to update the genre in any significant way.

This is definitely contributing to the more frequent mention of political themes in reviews. Cyberpunk was made in the 80s as a response to world politics. It's inherently political, and people wondered if that would translate to a modern take. Instead they mostly seem to be doing a greatest hits of classic tropes.

I really do recommend reading Neuromancer, by the way, to anyone interested in this game or the genre. I read it a couple months back and it helds up as a fun read and was also funny to see just how much that book has been ripped off by most cyberpunk-y pop culture media over the years. Just from trailers and pre-release stuff I can already pick out a couple major things lifted straight out of it.

I'm not surprised to learn it's buggy and I dont expect the Day 1 patch to fix it all. But the question is how buggy we are talking here. Skyrim bad? Skyrim at launched was the buggy shit I've played but in ways that didn't ruin the experience much. Worse than that and we have issues.

Well I can't resist a ranking.

Eshonai > Rlain > Raboniel > Venli > Leshwi. I'm biased towards the top two but I can't really stress enough how I think they are all great characters. Pursuer I don't lump in with them but he's very good at what he does.

Basically, these 5 (and also the separatist Listeners at the end who TAMED CHASMFIENDS) are all very interesting in that they all have unique perspectives on the war and ALL have valid points. Meanwhile the Pursuer is one of Sanderson's Saturday Morning Cartoon villains but he is sick as hell in that role.

There was exactly one hetero ship at the point the comic ended and even then it was playing with breaking up John/Roxy in favor of Roxy/Callie. Hussie joked about wanting to make everyone gay or LGBTQ and then actually did it by making Davekat real and having the characters monologue about it. It was not subtle!

The epilogues and Homestuck 2 are essentially officially sanctioned edgy fanfiction. The epilogues in particular, if you know about those, but that is a LOT to unpack. Suffice to say most people weren't happy with the darker themes and certain characters getting shafted. Homestuck 2 is noticeably lighter but since it is a sequel to the epilogues it still has baggage. Personally I'm fine with this stuff being its separate thing but the tone shift is understandably divisive.

In addition it's just had growing pains and honestly just isn't very good. The pacing is weird, the schedule is slow and got slower because people unsubbed from the patreon, and even then the quality swings wildly with each update. If it wasn't obvious, most of this stuff is not actually written by Hussie, though he contributed the outline of the epilogues and some details for HS^2, all of which has been controversial. The fandom drama I know about revolved around a new character he had the team include. Brace yourself: it turns out that Jade and Rose had a secret baby together (normal baby, not ecto-baby, because Jade...is still fused with her dog) and their name is Yiffany Longstocking.

So yeah, I'd say it really leans into being fanfic. Homestuck remains a finished work despite the ending. The case the epilogues are making by filling in the plotholes is that it leads to all this.

I had a relative overseas who was actually offered access to what must have been either the first wave or trials of the Chinese vaccine before Thanksgiving. He declined. Dunno if it's 100% the same, since I know the US vaccine has already been through trial, but still.

Anti-vax is one thing but hopefully people are just being skeptical. There's limited quantities so as long as skepticism doesn't outpace our ability to produce and distribute the vaccine, I won't blame anyone until we've got extra vaccine sitting in freezers.

Hussie needed to stick to an outline or an editor or something, but that wouldn't have really been Homestuck's style.

Let me back up. This is exactly why all the way back in March and April everyone was saying we needed stuff like UBI and rent forgiveness to stop a shitstorm in case we didn't get a second deal. Expediency won out. So I'll amend my statement and say stakes were highest at the start of the pandemic. I can pretty much unambiguously blame Pelosi here for settling and the GOP for refusing to entertain more deals. This has been a failure of leadership from the start.

But right now we are just arguing over bandaids. And bandaids are good but we needed continuous federal relief ages ago. I live in Texas dude, I and most people I know have been working in person since May, restaraunts have been open since then too. One dinky check earlier would not have stopped this and they won't stop much now either. The first one sure didn't! It just delayed the spike in the South. I'm so tired of this.

Mind explaining? The stakes were highest when it looked like Trump could win reelection. And a second deal was not truly on the table until around election season. Despite that they at least kept extending the unemployment benefits.

Personally I would have been happy with the White House deal, although like I said McConnell wasn't having it. And the WH must have been truly desperate to offer that so maybe it was right to try and push for more.

What I'm trying to say is that when it was bad deal vs no deal after the election I would have taken bad deal but since Pelosi showed you can still get the bad deal after the election I'll admit I was wrong

Well they didn't bother fighting for the first relief package and the fight they did have fizzled out. If they took a bad deal and let Trump send out checks there is a real chance they don't get that control unless they can say they negotiated up. There was the white house compromise but McConnell didn't want that either so it was also dead. The real concern was that Republicans wouldn't pass any relief after the election and so it was either a bad deal or nothing but the bluff seems to have been called.

I've got a lot of complaints about Pelosi but I can't really blame her much for accepting a bad deal when the stakes suddenly became lower. Obviously I still wish we got a better deal but if it's ending up as arguing over timing of the same bad deal...I dont blame her for fighting about it for once.

The worst part of McConnell's deal was always the liability bailout for businesses, which probably has to happen at some level for small businesses but we all know is just going to be abused by big corporations.

I dont know about the specific jokes but I do know the devs are largely from the original team that made the games that were able to buy the rights to their own work so I was planning on supporting it on that alone. The pre-release article I read did mention them doing some rewrites and recasting (Bosco, for example, was not originally voiced by a Black dude) but it sounded like they were in control.

Well yes, that would be hilarious. But no, and I understand why they cant simply ban Trump. And misinformation is a tricky subject and I think they did about as good a job they could with Trump's election tweets without removing them.

But I'm talking more about their harassment moderation at smaller levels which is notoriously bad. I also think often of this anecdote from a anonymous employee that Twitter made a moderation algorithm to crack down on white supremacist groups, mirroring ones they use on other terrorist organizations, but couldn't use it because it would flag too many actual politicians.

Imo they do need to do a better job moderating stuff like disinformation, but it would be very hard to force that legislatively without violating the First Amendment; it would be much better for everyone if tech companies changed their behavior voluntarily here (and there is some cause for optimism with stuff like QAnon being banned from some of these websites, though I'm not very optimistic about any sort of real crackdown from disinformation coming directly from politicians like Trump).

Hey, I agree with all this! But again they have financial incentives to not do this so the only options we have to convince them are slamming them or government intervention. Right now I'm just slammin.

If we can't hold websites liable for harmful/illegal content posted by their users, would it be possible to make it easier to hold the users themselves liable for it instead? There has to be some sort of middle ground between having no limits and outlawing the internet as we know.

This is kind of the thing - Facebook and Twitter tend to NOT hold users accountable because their moderation is so bad. And they benefit financially from having bad moderation hurting their user base. We don't have many ways to force them to moderate besides holding the website liable

Also no one is asking for perfect moderation, just...like any decent attempt

Literally anything with forums or a comments section. Those will just completely be removed. Free discussion on the internet will just outright end because nobody will want to risk being sued outside of those that can afford it. You'll have heavily moderated bubbles in return.

I think heavy moderation is fine, actually. GameFAQs mod drama where people get modded for posting names of websites that are solely for fanatics is stupid but ultimately harmless.

For a better example, sites such as Reddit benefit greatly from modding and deplatforming.

Adding liability at all is the end of any level of free speech on the internet, period. And the idiots supporting it don't even get that it's not going to hurt their chosen targets (Twitter, Facebook, and so on) because those sites can very easily limit what/who can post without losing much since a majority of their users really only use them to follow mostly non-controversial celebrities/"influencers." It's the smaller ones that can't afford to fight lawsuits so they're either going to shut down completely or put enough restrictions to make it not worth posting.

Let's assume that for some reason we can't make a law that's specifically targeting major social media platforms. What kind of sites are you worried about this hitting? Surely not gamefaqs dot com!

I feel like the post-Homestuck team has gotten such a raw deal. But Hussie got my money in 2012 and The Odd Gentlemen threw it in the garbage so I can't really do anything about it. Well, I subbed to their Patreon but that's it.
