The problem is that one side wants to help and the other side doesn't, and when an agreement can't be reached, that benefits the side that doesn't want to help. So whenever the Dems concede ground and reduce their demands in order to compromise, the GOP become more obstinate, resulting in the Dems being even weaker when it comes to helping people the next time around. This is exactly what happened. The Dems went for a weak stimulus deal to help people back when the pandemic started, but because it was such a weak deal, it meant that when renewal was needed in the summertime, the GOP could continue not giving a shit. And then the GOP gained seats in the House and held the Senate because the voters don't give a fuck about which side is hurting them.

That's the problem. As long as the Democratic majority can't be bothered to turn out in a blue fucking wave to wipe out the ENTIRE GOP (not just Donald Trump), this is the reality we live in.

I know how it works, I'm saying the stalemate never gets broken if Dems also don't play hardball with whatever power they do have. Republicans have been doing all kinds of crazy stunts these past two years with zero blowback. Not just with stupid lawsuits but also that shit like when they would physically show up outside of important hearings to impede them by protesting and shit. If this kind of crap is what's actually working on "the idiots" to win them over then they should go for it. I don't care anymore.

Like be honest, how would you react if Pelosi just waltzed in during the ACB confirmation and just started screaming her head off like Republicans did for the impeachment hearings?

Thaidakar. Seems there's rampant speculation that Kelsier is the head of the Ghostbloods, especially with that Word of Brandon fanning the flames. I think in terms of capability and style... yeah, it kinda does seem like Kelsier. But... the Ghostbloods are at best amoral, at worst deliberate murderers who will harm anybody and everything to achieve their goals. One of Kelsier's best character defining moments was being ashamed of how much he let his hatred of the nobility drive him to monstrous acts. That's not Kelsier on a normal day. Kelsier cares about people, and so I have a hard time imagining him being directly behind these assholes. All in all, it's very possible Kelsier is behind the ghostbloods but I'm not sure that I want him to be.

It absolutely seems in-character to me. Even in the first book, Kelsier is an antihero who needs other people around him to keep him in check. At his worst he is a borderline sociopath. His master plan of creating a false religion with him as the messiah was completely unhinged, and then it worked, and then he actually became that messiah. And when he does, he immediately begins plotting (and becomes a messiah a second time, by the way) and has about 300 years of plots by the time this series is going down. He's not exactly having a normal day anymore, and even so we already know becoming a Cognitive Shadow eventually starts to warp your personality. It all tracks.

In that scenario it's obvious that you fight to make the original deal better, but that's not the situation the Dems were in. Their choices were more like "take this deal or get nothing", and no deal at all would have had some awful consequences. Or are you saying this was the best time to finally test whether the GOP is bluffing or not whenever they hold America hostage during political negotiations?

Not necessarily time to call the bluff and get nothing, but if there was ever a time to play dirty to get what they wanted it was then. I'm not saying the GOP isn't culpable but that we can definitively say that the Dem's plan to compromise first and release more aid later was a complete failure.

It's not that she had "extra," it's that Dems went from having any leverage to having zero.

Let me put it this way. With hindsight, if you know we would get ONE deal for the entire year, possibly two at the very end of december, do you accept the original one or fight to make it better?

(And yes this hypothetical is in hindsight but it's her job to be able to predict these things and people at the time were saying the deal needed to be better to avoid a disaster)

The refund offer has been an absolute shitshow, since they didn't clear it with the platform holders and Sony/Ms have no obligation to refund. Stores aren't obligated to refund physical copies, either.

GOG itself has a refund policy staying not to refund games for "issues that are actively being patched"

The most I could find on GOG refunds is that they seem to be swamped and the automated systems are offering store credit and no one seems to be sure what's going on. They have to escalate the problem to paypal or the credit card companies and it's just a slow mess.

For everyone else it is just up to the individual retailer to waive their typical policy

In the game it's an advertisement for porn I think. There's these pleasure machines that have people on them (men, women, etc.) and she's one of them.

Believe me when I say the game is filled with so many ads for so much porn with no deeper meaning beyond "exploitation...bad?" that most of it ends up coming across as unironic horniness. There are a few scenes diving into specifics of exploitation in the sex industry but the ads are not it.

Not to mention they used this ad, which they say is an example of why exploiting people's sexuality for profit is bad, to advertise their game in real life.

Stuff like this makes it pretty obvious the GTA-isms and typical open world stuff was pretty low priority for them, yet all the marketing was basically selling it as similar to GTA. At this point I'm more interested in the story behind the development than the game itself because it seems like this direction was tacked on at some point to sell copies and didn't have any time to get fleshed out.

We probably went over it but Coil isn't a terribly huge priority either, it's best put off until you're level 60 or higher. It's got some deep lore but it's mostly background info and unlike other questlines it isn't directly required for quests or to understand the plot. The best time to do it is after beating Heavensward but before doing the 60 postgame story that leads to Stormblood, but you can always ignore that and come back to it whenever.

Personally I think Cyberpunk 2077 has had its backlash mitigated by at least delivering on its core promises. One thing I've noticed is that the people who didn't buy into the hype seem to mostly enjoy thr game despite the jank. To put it bluntly - Witcher 3 is not a great action game, it's got passable combat held up by the story, characters, writing, and overall world. And while I'm not too far in the plot that seems to largely be similar for 2077. I have a lot of criticisms but when it's firing on all cylinders it's pretty good at doing the things it wants to be doing.

I skipped Andromeda but I largely did so because of the consensus that they dropped the ball on these types of things that did matter, in addition to the technical issues and the game being hideous even despite those.

Yeah...I'm on PC but I'm thinking about checking back after a patch or two. I haven't encountered any gamebreaking bugs but there were some annoying ones. One after a Johnny scene left the glitch effect on my screen for like an hour until I reloaded and realized it was just a bug and another in Jig-Jig Street that tanked my framerate until I reloaded. Which, the performance issues are a whole other thing, I'm generally happy with being able to get a consistent 50+ish frames in the open city but certain areas seem to tank it.

I'm surprised you think the pacing is weird. My initial thoughts was that the book was much better paced than past books (except maybe book 2), though people also seemed to not like Oathbringer's pacing which I had no major issue with so maybe I'm not the best judge. But I thought the choice to lead with a mini-Sanderlanche, and then to include another as a climactic turning point at the end of Part 2, did wonders for the pacing. The only complaint is that the beginning of act 2 can drag on a little. I agree with you that the finale of the Urothiru conflict was good but felt weak, and thinking on it now I'm wondering if part of that is because that conflict is spread out across the back half of the book. Which IMO is better pacing even if it devalues Sanderson's usual style of "cram everything into the final act."

I thought Kaladin's chapters were a lot more purposeful than they were in Oathbringer, though since his whole struggle with depression is a constant I can definitely see how it would start to grate on people. Shallan meanwhile is basically the opposite, though there was enough juice going on in her plotline that I didn't mind too much.

I just got to the title drop and opened up the world. So far I've been mostly speccing into the Cool pathway that gives killstreak bonuses, but I might start over with a new character because hacking seems to be the most interesting part of the gameplay so far. Not sure yet.

If you look at the eye pattern options in the game that's an area where they seem to have gotten this right, it just does not translate to most of the builder.

Well, all the early looks at the character builder from years ago had the same style of selecting from different parts. So it could be, but I'm not so sure. Like I said earlier, I suspect most of the dev time on the character creator came from focusing too much on the quality of limited options rather than quantity of options.
