They aren't Marxist at all. Actual Marxists in China are censored from social media or even imprisoned depending on how far they go to promote it. A Chinese Marxist who used to do a podcast recently died because he couldn't afford medical care (you have to pay to receive treatment in China upfront, it's cheap compared to most countries, but if you can't afford it you can't be treated).

Japan made an entire series of games where you are an American shooting down Imperial Japanese planes in World War II. The games were popular in Japan and America. You may have heard of one:
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/1943:_The_Battle_of_Midway

In Japan, Game Machine listed 1943: Midway Kaisen in their July 15, 1987 issue as being the most-popular arcade game at the time.[4]Game Machine also listed 1943 Kai: Midway Kaisen in their August 1, 1988 issue as being the sixteenth most-popular arcade game at the time.[5]

Japanese games made in Japan with Japanese leads are censored in Japan. NiOh is censored in Japan. Ninja Gaiden is censored in Japan. The list goes on. This isn't based on ethnicity of characters in games. Just like China censors most Japanese media for domestic release. It isn't because the media is Japanese, Chinese media faces severe restrictions too.

Your post literally implied that. As someone with Chinese family living in Japan we deal with racism here against Chinese people. Having positive elements in the culture is a great boon, but Western people are obsessed with setting everyone against each other and I am sick of it. You got topics on here almost daily trying to get people to hate black people or Asians. Get that shit out of here.

Somebody go post this on the PS4/5 board and watch them get super upset, and blame this all on Sony.

They like to pretend that Japan is some type of bastion against censorship and Sony has been westernized made into a SJW company.

I would say Japan is far more tolerant of sex and sexuality in media, but with a strict censorship of genitalia, whereas the West, specifically America, is much more tolerant of violent content (Germany also censors violence along with some other European countries).

Bruce Lee is extremely popular in Japan and Hong Kong cinema was massively popular and influential. Jiang Shi are more popular in Japan than mainland China by far thanks to the influence of Hong Kong cinema like Mr. Vampire. Chinese culture is massively popular in Japan to this day and has influenced many popular franchises such as Fist of the North Star, Pokemon, Final Fantasy, and Dragon Ball. The issue with Mortal Kombat has been made apparent in this topic multiple times. So sick of the constant race bating with Asians on this board.

Isn't this the same country that made popular manga like Hellsing?

What changed since Alucard was literally fucking ripping people in HALF?

You can still see extreme violence in manga and on non television releases of anime. The TV guidelines are strict now, and the guidelines for CERO, which rates games are extremely strict to the point where even Z rated (Adults Only) still often requires censorship compared to America. PC games are able to avoid CERO ratings which is why most hentai games are PC only with a censored version later on consoles if they are popular.

Resident Evil is censored in Japan. As are Ninja Gaiden, NiOh, and basically any game with limbs being removed. And anime is censored as well. You can't show limb removal on TV. Check out the TV cuts of some shows like Terraformars or JoJo (which also awkwardly censored underage smoking).

I don't know where you guys are getting this idea that Japanese media isn't censored, but it would be great if I didn't have to import Resident Evil games from the US to play them uncensored, but I do.

Also the first 2 Mortal Kombat games were released in Japan. This was before strict censorship was in place. The censorship is done indirectly by the ratings board essentially refusing classification if it goes too far.

Yeah, Japan has poor iron ore resources, and it is now imported largely from China. Nippon Steel is actually the third largest steel manufacturer in the world, but much of that steel is sold right back to China. The new system of interconnected trade is much better for Japan than colonization ever was. The defeat of Imperial Japan was actually a major benefit for the country in the long run.

They're half way across the planet and Japan had a strong military themselves after fighting and defending themselves against their own neighbors. When they did get the capacity to reach them they dropped the atomic bomb on them

Japan fought off two Mongol invasions that were primarily defeated by the weather before the rise of Sengoku Jidai warfare and the adoption of guns from European traders They absolutely did not have a good military by the time of the Meiji restoration (which again occurred in response to soft colonization). Both sides of that conflict hired European military trainers and bought arms from Europe. Japan had nothing modern in terms of military at that time. The whole reason America was successful in dictating to Japan they had to open to foreign trade and allow foreigners to set up shop where they wanted was because they showed up with ships and weapons Japan couldn't resist. Kick the foreigners out was the popular opinion among the masses. A few places even attempted to attack European ships and a few Europeans were killed but the disproportionate retaliation was largely tolerated by the government allowing further resentment. The Meiji government rode that resentment to victory and then abandoned it in favor of allying with Europe and modernizing, allowing for Japan itself to become an imperial power.

Weird how no one has mentioned how incredibly poor in natural resources Japan is. Imperial Japan started colonizing parts of Asia for that very reason.

You could also argue the Meiji Restoration and modernization was a direct response to the soft colonization occuring then. The motto for the anti-bakufu forces was revere the emperor and expel the barbarians. However the emperor realized modernizing meant Westernization and working with other powers so they allied with and invited European powers while abandoning many traditions and adoptioning European technology and cultural aspects. This eventually allowed them to become a rival imperial power. Now Japan effectively is a soft colony of the US, but you won't find many people here that have a problem with it.
