Yet Japan had no problem with Japanese-made gorey (arcade) games like Splatterhouse.

Mortal Kombat was a lightning rod in the 90s, but it's clear that the MK ban is b/c it's an American company.

that doesn't really change the amusing irony of the double-standard. Girl with a machine gun arm blows flesh chunks off a kid's face until his head is nothing but a bloody skull with googly eyes, everything's gucci.

But if you do the same thing, but have to input "up down down down down up highpunch" first, then it's banworthy. <_<

It's sort of like how the US has this weird hangup where media can show women wearing basically nothing and performing all sorts of lewdery, but the minute the audience sees a nipple, everyone loses their fucking minds. >_>

Resident Evil is censored in Japan. As are Ninja Gaiden, NiOh, and basically any game with limbs being removed. And anime is censored as well. You can't show limb removal on TV. Check out the TV cuts of some shows like Terraformars or JoJo (which also awkwardly censored underage smoking).

I don't know where you guys are getting this idea that Japanese media isn't censored, but it would be great if I didn't have to import Resident Evil games from the US to play them uncensored, but I do.

Also the first 2 Mortal Kombat games were released in Japan. This was before strict censorship was in place. The censorship is done indirectly by the ratings board essentially refusing classification if it goes too far.

I wouldn't mind if violence was more censored. We censor sex like we should be censoring violence. Violence is a problem. A far, far bigger problem than sex is. But America just loves glorifying gore and killing and stuff of the sort.

I thought only the first arcade game was released in Japan, and only a very very limited run (like under 100 machines)???

The article on Wikipedia for Mortal Kombat 2 literally talks about Japan only released versions in the opening paragraph.

The game isn't per se banned, MK 1, 2, and I think 3 were released in Japan, but the newer ones are not allowed because CERO forbids dismemberment and they would have to like black the screen out during all finishers and why bother releasing the game at all that way.

tbf they did something similar in Mortal Kombat VS DC. The camera would cut away from the "victim" and focus on the face of the winner. Like Joker's fatality cuts away from the loser and just shows him firing a gun. <_<

Yeah. Honestly punching someone so hard that 12 complete sets of lungs explode from their body had a kind of charm to it anyway.

You can't show it directly now. In the 80s and 90s up until the early 2000s anything could go for the most part. The strict TV censorship is relatively recent, and again only applies to TV. Though I doubt this post is sincere because I have seen you post a lot of trolling about Japan in the past.

Japan doesn't have a problem with monster violence and gore, its specifically on humans.
The lowest rating for the original Doom is actually the Japanese one.
EU and NA have a higher rating for it.

You can still see extreme violence in manga and on non television releases of anime. The TV guidelines are strict now, and the guidelines for CERO, which rates games are extremely strict to the point where even Z rated (Adults Only) still often requires censorship compared to America. PC games are able to avoid CERO ratings which is why most hentai games are PC only with a censored version later on consoles if they are popular.

Bruce Lee is extremely popular in Japan and Hong Kong cinema was massively popular and influential. Jiang Shi are more popular in Japan than mainland China by far thanks to the influence of Hong Kong cinema like Mr. Vampire. Chinese culture is massively popular in Japan to this day and has influenced many popular franchises such as Fist of the North Star, Pokemon, Final Fantasy, and Dragon Ball. The issue with Mortal Kombat has been made apparent in this topic multiple times. So sick of the constant race bating with Asians on this board.

I would say Japan is far more tolerant of sex and sexuality in media, but with a strict censorship of genitalia, whereas the West, specifically America, is much more tolerant of violent content (Germany also censors violence along with some other European countries).

I could cherry pick some WW2 examples that show Japan doesn't like the Chinese if I was using your logic.

Your post literally implied that. As someone with Chinese family living in Japan we deal with racism here against Chinese people. Having positive elements in the culture is a great boon, but Western people are obsessed with setting everyone against each other and I am sick of it. You got topics on here almost daily trying to get people to hate black people or Asians. Get that shit out of here.
