It was weird how people hyped up Black Panther. It is still just a super hero movie. It was created so Disney could have more money. There are quite a few things that have happened to black people that are way more positive than this film.

Black Panther was a great movie though

People hyped it up because it was the first movie that --

-was so heavily promoted as a major blockbuster by a major studio
-starred a black cast
-did NOT portray black people as victims or thugs
-had such a large budget that it received such a wide release around the world and not just in 200 theaters in america
-and was at least decent

Yes it was a big deal. Studios tend to push black characters into the blackground.

It would be like if Disney released a major animated movie (like Lion King/Mulan/Frozen) that starred an openly gay character, and marketed it as hard as they did for all their other major animated movies, which will 100% ALSO happen sooner or later.

It's a great show, I love that it filled in a niche of scary content for kids. And was genuinely scary sometimes. There's like a kind of lovecraftian force that just attracts "all kinds of creepy things" to Courage's home and he just can't stop it but needs to protect his family who seem completely unaware of the dangers they live in, and he's the only one who realizes how dangerous things are. It's scary as a kid, it's like a nightmare.

With how quickly the human race has gone from horse and buggy to space travel to Mars I'm sure we will find a way to sustain life, whether its on this planet or not.

We've already found out how to be sustainable and stop messing up the planet's ecosystem, we know what we have to do, we just aren't willing to do it because we keep thinking "oh somebody will find an easy fix probably in the near future" (and for a bunch of other reasons like politics)

The logical solution is for us to collectively be more responsible about how much we consume. Ever since the mid-20th century America (and many other parts of the world) has just been on this exponential chart of growth. Not just in population size but also in the way we consume products and disregard the environment. It also goes for big corporations and the role they have in our world.

And yeah in many many ways our quality of life has increased. So you might say "well that means now's the best time to breed like crazy" but that's not looking ahead.

Our planet's ecosystem has already been messed up DRASTICALLY in the past century and if we don't PAUSE and reevaluate why it's happened and how it'll continue to worsen, the planet is going to be unlivable very soon and no that's not an exaggeration.

If we could get a big paradigm shift where everybody was living more responsibly then maybe we'd be good to grow even more. But the way we live right now the planet can't sustain us for long. We're straight-up destroying it

And HIPPA protects EVERYONE from being asked about their medical conditions. Whether or not you actually have a disability is absolutely none of anyone's business.

Even if you have an ACTUAL disability and you're protected by the ADA,

You STILL can't just walk in without a mask. The ADA doesn't let people with disabilities spread coronavirus to others. You can expect some form of accommodation like what I listed above, but you can't walk in and put others at risk just because of a health issue of yours.

Also, it's HIPAA, not HIPPA lol

No one walking has an OS sat so bad they can't wear a mask. For that matter, no one riding a Wal-Mart scooter does either.

Yeah I haven't seen a single video of somebody acting belligerent over a legitimate health concern, they're always just acting like babies because they don't feel like wearing a mask.

And also if anybody DID have a condition that made it impractical to wear a mask, they STILL aren't allowed to waltz in and infect other people with coronavirus by going to public places. The americans with disabilities act says businesses must make reasonable accommodations for people with disabilities.

"Just let me in to shop without a mask" is NOT a reasonable accommodation because it's not reasonable to let them spread the coronavirus and the ADA doesn't grant people with disabilities the right to flaunt mask restrictions.

Here are some examples of reasonable accommodations:

• Allow a person to wear a scarf, loose face covering, or full face shield instead of a face mask;
• Allow customers to order online with curbside pick-up or no contact delivery in a timely manner;
• Allow customers to order by phone with curb-side pick-up or no contact delivery in a timely manner;
• Allow a person to wait in a car for an appointment and enter the building when called or texted; or
• Offer appointments by telephone or video calls.

Wal mart (like most stores) offers at least some of these options. That said, the ADA does NOT protect people without disabilities, so it's irrelevant to most of these stories anyway. Because the people who are raging over mask policies are always just big babies who could easily don a face cover, they just don't want to.

My youngest sister was born in 1995 and she watched it. The rest of us (born between 1985 and 1991) didn't watch it but we had Kenan & Kel.

Family guy has some funny moments but it never coalesces into anything substantial.

Like. All of its funniest moments don't need ANY context because they are just like short 30-second segments that don't really have anything to do with characterization or development.

And that's not a BAD thing when they're funny. Like that clip of Randy Newman was funny. Or the moment where they talk about the godfather while flooded. They're just little snippets that are funny. But with their jokes it usually doesn't matter if you know the context of the characters or the episode. Seth macfarlane might as well just write his jokes as 30-second clips instead of pretending they're cohesive tv episodes.

Whereas King of the Hill is funny usually because you have these different characters who are more realistic, and the humor is usually from seeing them bouncing off each other, like how a conservative father struggles to understand his less traditional son.

Futurama's a good example of a cartoon whose humor depends on riffing on a genre (sci fi), but it also depends on character writing.

A cartoon like South Park is similar to Family Guy because both of them use gross-out humor and random pop culture references as jokes. But I think South Park used to do a better job of tying those pop culture references into a coherent story rather than just using them for a 30-second unrelated clip. That said, South Park has been crappy for at least 5 years IMO. For unrelated reasons.

Asian reporter Tricia Takanawa -- I don't think there's really a clever joke here. I think it's just meant to make you laugh because it's so out of place to overtly point out her ethnicity when introducing her. They call her by her race so flippantly and she doesn't seem to care, but if you did it IRL it would actually be a big deal. It's silly to see her just go along with it, I think that's actually it. It also sets her up for potential race jokes.

Black/White pretended like it was going to address the obvious ethical problems of Pokemon, and then it abandoned that premise to go for yet another generically evil team.

Also N blathers nebulously about "MY TRUTH VS YOUR IDEALS" which was completely meaningless.

It was typical Pokemon fare. The only thing about BW's story that was very impressive was how it climaxed in the Pokemon League instead of when it usually does.

Pokemon stories have never been very good. IMO Sun/Moon is the most interesting one so far but it's still fairly sloppy.

The point is this cartoon was made only shortly after the end of segregation, and the country was INCREDIBLY racist at the time. The people who animated this special straight-up grew up in segregation. Are we really going to pretend the country had become very comfortable with the idea of black people at their thanksgiving table? Because TONS of people were not comfortable with that.

It really isn't so shocking that somebody involved may have been like "woah let's not rock the boat too much here"

And I can't say for sure that that's what happened, but I will say it's really conspicuous to choose to put four characters on one long side of the table and only one on the other long side, and the one who was isolated is the only black character, especially considering the year this was made.

Yes I think it was racist, that's just how people animated back then. This was only a few years after segregation was overturned, the country was strongly racist and I don't think they were willing to put a white girl next to the black boy. If not the animators, then maybe somebody higher up in the company.

I like the one with the marbles, the one with steve urkel, "the power of wings", and the one with the guy who loves the continental breakfast. Also the turbulence one.

Some of their skits aren't funny at all IMO. but overall they're pretty good. I remember a topic on CE earlier this year comparing him with the chapelle show. everybody said the chappelle show is much funnier and I asked them to link the best chapelle skits. But to me they weren't funny at all. I think Key + peele do a better job of using cinematic techniques to make their videos funnier, like music and twisting cinematic tropes.

coronavirus has had the biggest effect on this year obviously. But climate change will be much bigger in the long run. The police brutality and the response to it was also huge.

No celebrity death could compare with those, including Kobe's or Chadwick Boseman's.
Nor could the Beirut explosion, which didn't really carry the same lasting ramifications.
The hornets aren't nearly as disruptive or destructive as climate change or the wildfires.
Businesses shutting down are bad but it's really just another effect the coronavirus has had.

Um they straight up allow their employees to take the games home and PLAY them, then sell them as new. It's common and normal.
