These suspensions always come out of the blue because Twitch is incredibly inconsistent. In my opinion, Phil has done plenty of things he could've been banned for, but I assume this suspension will be over some minor technicality.

I read that on KF and thought it was extremely suspicious. No matter what's going on (because we'll never know the truth), it just reaffirms how artificial his support really is. He's being sustained by a handful of people. I would love to know the exact percentages, but if I had to guess, I'd say that less than a dozen people account for well over half of his annual income.

He treats his parents the way he treats everyone else: they're useful for what they can give him (money and an ear to listen to his complaints), but he doesn't seem to actually like them, and I believe he'd cut off all contact with them in an instant if he felt they were no longer useful.

That's the thing with Phil: he can offer up his opinion on pretty much anything, and odds are you can find at least two or three of his own videos that will directly contradict him.

His opinions are worthless. He doesn't read, thinks pop culture is stupid, thinks gaming culture is stupid, doesn't interact with anyone outside of chat and Twitter, and is completely out of touch with the world outside his house. At best, he might stumble across something on Twitter that he can put into his own words, or he might take a contrarian stance simply to seem different, but he's not adding anything of value to any conversation on any subject. If anyone wants to know what he really thinks, watch fifteen minutes of a prestream. He should do himself a favor and stay off of Twitter except to update his viewers on his schedule.

The basic explanation of why Phil continues to make stupid, illogical financial decisions is this: He can get away with it. Until there are real and lasting consequences (ie: paypigs abandoning him, IRS kicking his ass, Twitch banning him), he will continue to waste money and not pay his taxes.

His mom dying comes across as very contrived. He finally goes to check on her, she dies three seconds after he finds her, and he snaps and starts killing people. It definitely could've been set up better.

I guess a lot of my ideas for Phil doing things differently would involve him embracing change much earlier, like before he left Connecticut, back when he still had friends and hadn't completely isolated himself. At present, Phil is irredeemable, but I think in his early YouTube days there was a slight possibility that someone could have talked some sense into him. For example, if he had reacted differently to the criticism of his MGS2 playthrough, laughing at himself instead of blaming the game, he could have prevented TIHYDPs from coming into existence. Or if he had embraced that first TIHYDP, he might have prevented the birth of the organized detractor community. I know those scenarios are unlikely, but it's fun to pretend his story is more complicated than him always being a toxic narcissist who never could have been better than he is.

It's hard to say how popular he could have been, because a lot of his success was due to being at the right place at the right time, and he lacks the skills, personality, and work ethic needed to be a great streamer. Additionally, the drama that surrounds him seems to be what attracts a lot of his viewers.

But I think it's safe to say that if he had embraced being a meme and learned to laugh at himself, then he could be doing somewhat better than he is now. At the very least, he would have fewer haters and he might actually enjoy what he does. It's hard to laugh at someone for doing something stupid when he's already making fun of himself for doing that stupid thing; people would be more likely to laugh with him, not at him. And who knows, maybe if he had been willing to accept criticism and adapt to change, then he could have become a relatively popular content creator instead of one of the most infamous and toxic e-beggars on the internet.

There is literally no pleasing him: whatever his audience does is wrong. It's like all the times he bitches them out for not talking to him, then when someone asks a question that could start a conversation, he answers with two words. Or he flips out because it's not a question he wants to answer. His fans pay for him to live a lifestyle he could never hope to live otherwise, yet he loathes them and routinely treats them like shit.
