Most people with millions or billions use trust funds and other methods to avoid estate tax. Usually the ones paying estate tax are people who didn't plan properly and usually those without a lot of money.

The estate tax only applies to exceedingly wealthy people. It's not those without a lot of money that are paying it, as much as many rich people circumvent it via whatever means they can.

Makes sense. I've currently just got rows of 5 or so of each flower colour, spaced by 1 square and staggered with the rows above and below them to make a grid.

X RXRXRXRXR
WXWXWXWXWX
XYXYXYXYXY

It's not as efficient as your setup, but it seems sensible for getting multiple pairings done at once (i.e. breeding white with red and yellow at the same time). I'll probably condense into something like that once I've got most of the easy colours out of the way.

Yeah, I need to start figuring out what I want to do with my town, to say nothing of my house (which is pretty much just a dumping ground for semi-interesting furniture at this point). I'm going to need to keep some land allocated for flower breeding, and I might wait until I've finished with the simpler ones (just one more to go for hyacinths and cosmos, but roses and mums are going to be a while), but I should at least start deforesting a bit and moving my fruit trees to a proper orchard.

I spent the better part of an hour this morning watering and rearranging the flowers that I'm trying to breed, and just as I finish, noon rolls around and it starts raining. Typical. On the bright side, I had a few new hybrids today, including a purple rose that gets me one step closer to blue, so that's fun. I also caught my first coelacanth (followed shortly by another one) and paid off my final house loan.

As people are saying, it's justifiable for multiple people, but I'd still be inclined to just wait for it to come out in a cheaper format. I go to see movies in theatres rarely enough as it is, even being able to do so for free (my credit card rewards program offers points for free movies and I've racked up more than I will ever use and should probably switch to a proper cashback card), so paying comparable prices to just watch it on my own television doesn't make much sense.

Given the success Trolls has had with this launch, Hollywood is almost certain to make this a regular thing moving forward.

It'll be interesting to see how well that works for non-children's movies. I imagine demand for that one was inflated by parents desperate for a new way to entertain their kids during quarantine, so those results may not generalize to other movies or once everyone is free again.

Honestly, UBI is only really sustainable when the government owns all means of production because otherwise there's no incentive for anybody to work.

Pretty much every UBI/minimum income experiment conducted hasn't run into that problem. There's no incentive for anybody to work in garbage jobs that don't pay enough to attract people to them but can currently get away with it because the immediate alternative is starvation, sure, but people generally like to do something with their lives. People also generally like better lives than mere subsistence, and that takes work on top of whatever minimum they're getting. Exceptions will always exist that are content to live off of that bare minimum and do nothing while mooching off of the system, but that's going to happen with any sort of social support, and those small pockets of abuse shouldn't result in the supports being taken away from the people that use them properly.

The problem with that counter-argument is that "purpose in life" would be inherently meaningless, if everything was provided for you. Despite Thanos' need to wipe out half of all life, he did respect life's need for struggle and purpose. So even on the flip-side and providing all those needs would be illogical as well.

He had omnipotent control over all of reality. He could find some middle ground between preventing overpopulation from becoming a problem and preventing everyone from getting bored because there was no need to work toward anything.

Thanos' motivation was sound, but the actions that followed were arrogant and myopic. He figured out the solution of killing people off to solve overpopulation, then proceeded to amass the power he needed to do so more and more effectively, never stopping to consider that such power could be used to solve the problem another way. With all six Infinity Stones, Thanos could have solved the problem of the universe's finite resources by making the universe's resources stop being finite. Instead, he used literal omnipotence to enact a solution that was temporary at best and pissed everybody off. He attained the power of a god, but continued to think like a mortal.

Now, none of that was ever actually presented to Thanos as a counterargument. The good guys' position consisted pretty much entirely of "killing people is bad, we'll figure out a different way after we stop you," which avoids talking about the problem he brings up instead of actually working to solve it. That could probably have been done better, but at the same time, I don't think it would have been consistent with any of the characters to have any of them actually do that. The only one who might have considered such a cosmic-scale solution to the problem would have been Doctor Strange, it's not in his nature to be so interventionist (see: Not telling Tony which of the millions of possibilities he searched through they were living in). Everyone else also thought about the problem like mortals, which is why they also fixated on individual lives instead of the bigger picture of solving resource scarcity.

Really, the whole story arc amounted to mortals being mortals while fighting over the power of gods, and that's inevitably going to result in all of them looking stupid if you look into it far enough. That's the only way to have interesting characters, since thinking of everything and doing everything right means you don't have much conflict to base a story off of.

Overall, I'd say 7-8 but it still really depends on the type of game. Certain well made RPGs for example I might replay for the story but usually the story is all I would care about so if the gameplay was cumbersome in some way, I might not replay the game. I found Planescape: Torment story to be amazing but in terms of gameplay will have trouble getting back into it.

And then there's the Borderlands where it might not be the best of stories but the gameplay is fun enough that I would replay again with a different class. And then there's games with both stories and gameplay that I enjoyed such as Xenogear but I know that game is bloody long so probably will not want to get back into again.

This sounds about right. Some games aren't designed to be readily replayed, and I'm fine with them having less by way of replay value. Some games are, and if they lack it, it drags them down a lot in my eyes. it's not something I can make a blanket statement about beyond saying that replay value is generally a good thing because it means I get more entertainment out of my dollars.

adjl

The only company I'm explicitly boycotting is Blizzard, since after what they did with WC3 Reforged (namely, pushing the Reforged update onto existing copies of WC3 and effectively breaking a 15-year-old game I already have), I can no longer trust that any game I buy from them won't be ruined somewhere down the line. Until they earn that trust back (which is going to take a long time, since even if they walk back the decision to push Reforged onto existing copies, I have no reason to believe that's a genuine acknowledgement of error and not just caving to pressure for PR purposes), I'm not buying any more of their games. In practice, the only upcoming one I have any interest in is Diablo 4, and even then I was pretty wary of it because I'm expecting it to be positively seething with exploitative monetization (plus it's not like Diablo's the only ARPG in town these days), so that's not really a big change for me, but it's still my position.

There are several other publishers that I just haven't been buying games from, though, without explicitly boycotting them. I could count on one hand the number of games I've bought in the last decade from each of EA, Activision (counting them separately from Blizzard, though even then Diablo 3 is the only Blizzard game I've bought since the first part of SC2), Ubisoft, Konami, and probably a few others. That's not really a deliberate decision not to buy from them, it's just a consequence of the kinds and qualities of games they've been putting out in that time frame and which systems they've been focusing on. I'm not buying from them not because I don't want to buy from them, but because they aren't selling anything I want to buy.

Golem25 posted...
I get that you want to act like Johnny with the Big Balls on the internet, but I don't think the poster you are replying to is under the illusion that his boycott will cripple Disney

I mean, he did phrase it as a conditional boycott, and generally speaking, giving conditions means you want the company you're pressuring to yield to your demands. That condition is completely unrealistic, though, so if that's the primary basis for the boycott, it's not exactly going to accomplish much, meaning the boycott just results in limiting the entertainment available to him for no reason.

Depends a lot on the context. Playing them at home, not usually, unless I'm playing them alongside somebody that's doing something else that would be disturbed by the sounds of the game. Out and about, if it's a situation where bringing headphones is practical, I'll sometimes do it, but I'll usually go without provided it's a game where I don't overly care about the music or need the sound (since then I mute it).

In terms of how it's defined, sure. In terms of how rhymes actually get used (to provide a pleasing repetition of sounds that helps to define the meter and rhythm of the poem), though, using the same word again provides the same repetition of sounds and therefore the same function. Practically speaking, that's a rhyme.

Don't bother upgrading the Drake Sword. The upgrade materials are hard to come by and it gains very little from upgrading. Take a look at the strength weapons you have available and see which movesets you like, then double-check that they scale reasonably well (many weapons don't, unfortunately) and/or if there are similar weapons that scale better. Generally, you probably are going to find that most strength weapons are slow compared to the Drake Sword, since that's just the nature of strength weapons, but there are definitely some that are faster than the Zweihander (which is on the slower side). The Claymore is a popular choice, as is the Man-Serpent Greatsword that can be farmed from those snake dudes (similar moveset, MS GS is a bit stronger, but loses the Claymore's thrust attack).

idk, it's a movie anyways, not like it makes much of a difference, the story is written lulz.

That explanation also makes sense. Hulk isn't exactly a competent fighter, he's just strong enough to not need competency most of the time. Matched up against somebody similarly strong who is competent, he's not going to have a good time. Meanwhile, Cap is a very competent fighter and the hammer in question was Mjolnir, which does a lot to level the playing field as far as raw power goes, hence he was able to do a better job of holding his own.

He still managed to go head-to-head with all of The Avengers' strongest and ultimately only lost because Ironman managed to get the stones away from him for the few seconds he needed to write Thanos out of existence. It's not like he wasn't a serious threat, he was just a threat that could actually be faced in open combat instead of being so omnipotent that the only way to fight him was to outsmart and outmanoeuvre him.

That said, getting Sesame Street episodes a few months later isn't that much of a disadvantage. Sesame Street doesn't really have the kind of social significance that's needed for kids to feel left out for seeing the episode after all their friends, and it's not like older episodes are any less educational. Last time I checked, C is still for "cookie," and that's good enough for me.

The real talking point is this settles the debate that save scumming is cheating.

Oh, it's always been cheating. There's never been any question about that. Rather, what's up for debate is whether or not the mechanic it circumvents deserves to be cheated.

Big countries like China/Russia/U.S./India would try to claim the vaccine by paying the smaller country if they were to find it first

The US already tried that with a couple of promising German candidates. They offered a couple billion for exclusive rights to the vaccine and Germany was like "lolno."
