people ARE losing their businesses, kids trapped with abusive parents is confirmed as domestic abuse cases HAVE gone up, both substance abuse and suicide ALWAYS go up in times of major crisis or major unemployment. hell, it's something like 20% of all suicides that can be directly correlated to unemployment and our numbers are currently around 1932, LA is almost as bad as 1933 which is peak depression. these are all absolutely true and the only one spreading misinformation is the mod there in saying that these aren't all major aspects of the ongoing pandemic. they 100% are. he's wrong, seph is right.

only thing you can really ding him on is that he was abrasive to red... in responding to a post where red was abrasive to him.

All indications I've seen are that these things are happening but the effects in terms of death toll and economic impact are small when compared with the extra loss of life we would have incurred without any lockdown.

I meant to say this last time but The Wind from Liberl is low-key one of my favorite songs in the series. They take the Whereabouts of Light melody but then make all the notes staccato instead of drawn out and change the melody of the phrase that plays at 0:08-0:10 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sJ_PVyDYARY), for example, by making the eighth notes go straight up a scale rather than jumping up to the higher note that they do in the original before resolving the melody. It makes the song sound less about EMOTIONS and DRAMA and makes it sound more...stable, I guess, and it's just a perfect representation of Estelle and Joshua's character progression and aaa I love it.

I've kind of wanted to nominate it for VGMC but at the same time I can't even explain why I love the song so much to someone--much less have any hope of them also liking it--unless they both interpret music the same way I do and also have already spent 200 hours playing through the Sky games themselves.

I was pleasantly surprised by chapter 1 but yeah I still wouldn't say it was especially groundbreaking.

Crossbell arc easily handles the world politics aspect the best out of the games

For the most part I'd say the Crossbell outskirts don't matter too much overall, since you aren't spending excessive amounts of time at any particular spot.
I also don't really care about the towns anyway, although a lot of the scenery is nice. I do like Saint Ursula Medical College but I think that's the only populated area I cared about other than Crossbell City itself.

I'd say there's more fanservice than in a game like Steins;Gate (basing this on the anime) but less than in a game like Muv-Luv. Don't know if that helps at all.

There is fanservice in Utawarerumono but I'd say it's relatively tame by VN standards.

There were just so many reviews that basically said this game was tits out all the time, and the art style looks so on the nose like a particular...style.

Struggling to think of a good comparison here, but at least I am comfortable saying that this much is a blatant mis-characterization.

I still prefer the original soundtracks overall but the Zero/Ao Evo ones are way better than the Sky Evo OST's imo. I don't think Formidable Enemy was one of them, but there are definitely a good chunk of the songs here where I prefer the Evo version. (Ancient Pulsation and Silence in the Sunlight Filtering Through the Trees are immediately coming to mind as examples)

Just going to throw it out there that if there were a way to design a system of government where all positions of power were selected and filled solely by academic experts, but could still hold those people accountable to the public at large, then I would support it in a heartbeat.

To be clear, I at least don't see a way to satisfy the accountability criteria, which makes the idea dead-on-arrival until someone comes up with one, but I can dream.

I'm only arguing that it's possible! Not that it's easy! I only need to show one counterexample to prove my point.

And again, if I were philosophically opposed to the government taking away liberties from its populace then I would not be in support of government at all because that is literally the entire function of a government, even during normal times. Everything that a government actually does is to take away freedom from its citizens in exchange for the safety and well-being of its citizens. That is what taxes are; that is what laws are; that is economic regulations are; etc. The debate is not over whether or not this okay at all but over what point along this freedom/safety trade-off results in the most well-being for the population as a whole.

Also I feel obligated to point out that earlier in this very topic series I said that under almost no circumstances would I be okay with the government implementing state-wide surveillance as a tool to combat the disease. (https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/boards/8-gamefaqs-contests/78587353/937597292) I'll also point out that even in this case it wasn't an absolute statement. Once the threat to citizen safety becomes large enough I'm suddenly okay with a government surveillance program because the trade-off becomes worth it. This isn't the same thing as corruption or tyranny.

The whole point is that during times of great need people are willing to cede freedom to the government in exchange for the government exerting its power to keep them safe. If the government faithfully executes that exchange and returns back the power once normal times return (Note: THIS is what we were calling for), then it's a benign government functioning as intended.

I'm not exactly an expert on historical use of emergency powers and there's certainly misuse out there, but like for example the US and UK didn't devolve into tyranny that I'm aware of in the aftermath of World War II.

Even if you believe that human nature inevitably leads to corruption, it's still possible to intentionally design systems of government that prevent or de-incentivize corruption. Also everything I've ever learned about the world would suggest history is not on your side here, since while corruption is common there are many regimes which are not depicted as such, and certainly the large majority would not be described as tyrannical.
