I find the jokes about tourists, old people and "Florida Man" as funny as the next guy... but like, Florida is damn delightful. People act like it's Kentucky or something. >_>

I have a soft spot for Tampa in particular. People are super friendly there, the food is bangin' and Busch Gardens is a blast. I visit fairly often to see family, and I always enjoy myself a lot.

I think it's a great show, and I really think the fanbase issues are blown out of proportion. The "anti-fanbase" is more persistent and challenging to avoid, IMO, and is therefore more obnoxious.

The sauce incident was an embarrassment, but at least it quickly came and went. Meanwhile, people have been spamming hackneyed rants and copypastas about "le toxic fanbase" for much, much longer. I think everyone ITT has been totally reasonable, but sites like AV Club and Reddit are insufferably smug about this type of thing.

...the Internet sucks now, man.

Awesome show. I even loved the somewhat maligned third season. My favorite episodes are "The Rickshank Rickdemption," "Something Ricked This Way Comes" and the one where Jerry and Beth have couples' therapy. Also, "Total Rickall," because the humor totally flows like a Community episode.

TopicHow would they do in a contest? Day 59 ft Mother Brain, Cynthia, Robin
TheCodeisBosco
07/26/19 1:37:22 PM
#12
Cynthia - High Fodder. The Sinnoh generation is a little over a decade old now, and is therefore in a "nostalgia sweet spot." People are clamoring for remakes, and citing it more frequently when discussing their favorite Pokemon generations. Furthermore, Cynthia is a well-liked character with an aesthetically pleasing design, whether you give a toss about "waifus" or not. I think she'd perform noticeably better than N did.

Robin - High Fodder. He's very recognizable, which would allow him to glide past lower fodder. I also think he'd top most characters in the High Fodder tier. But, being a cornball and having a limited connection to gaming would prevent him from doing any real damage.

Mother Brain - High Fodder. I'm going to be bullish with the brain here. While she's not a character who generally inspires strong feelings one way or the other, I think this site's shifting demographics would really help MB out. She's an iconic villain dating back to the NES days, and Metroid looks sterling in newer contests. Just look at how much Ridley overperformed versus Big Boss last year. (I realize he was also boosted by Smash, but it's an overperformance worth noting nonetheless.)

If we're going strictly off original libraries, Game Boy throttles GBC - and most other systems, console or handheld.

I guess people are voting based on factors like backwards compatibility and hardware as well, though? There's nothing wrong with that, of course, it's just different from how I vote.

I visited Seattle last month, so it's fresh in my mind.

I especially enjoyed visiting West Seattle and the university district. The former has a laid-back beach town feel and is fantastic for cycling along the coast. The latter is dense, packed with interesting spots, and relatively inexpensive. And trust me, when you're in Seattle, "relatively inexpensive" is a breath of fresh fucking air.

My two favorite restaurants I tried were Luna Park Cafe and Admiral Bird, both in West Seattle. The Admiral serves Raven's Brew coffee alongside excellent food; if you haven't tried Raven's Brew before, I really can't recommend it enough. Big Time Brewery was the best of the breweries I visited - their IPAs are excellent if you're into that kind of thing.

Kubota Garden, a large Japanese garden tucked away in East Seattle, was a definite trip highlight. Dick's is a solid old-school burger 'n' shake joint. Storyville Coffee is excellent and pretty common throughout the city.

Finally, since this is GameFAQs, I'd be remiss not to mention Pink Gorilla and Spin Cycle. The former deals exclusively in gaming and related merchandise; the latter is primarily focused on records, but has a fairly robust game selection too. You'd expect their prices to be sky-high, but I found excellent deals at both. Especially Spin Cycle.

I hope you enjoy your trip! Seattle is as chilly and aloof as they say, but the ingredients are definitely there for a relaxing and fascinating trip.

Y'all are dopes for not liking Wii. You gotta go to the deep cuts to find the best stuff but there's A LOT of em.

What I like about Wii and NES over the others is how much depth there is to the libraries. Like yeah SNES has some seriously amazing all-time classics but most of the rest are just awful. But NES and Wii, I've been collecting for both for years and I can still find great games I've never heard of.

The Wii is definitely a system where fortune favors the bold. There's some wild shit beneath the surface; Deadly Creatures, Opoona and The Munchables immediately come to mind.

I tend to prefer crate-digging with the Game Boy and DS, though. Those systems have so many memorable titles that rarely pop up in recommendation threads - especially the Game Boy. It's far deeper than Pokemon, Tetris and Link's Awakening, contrary to what the Internet would have you believe.

SNES > NES > N64 > Wii U > GameCube > Wii

Leaving Switch out for now since it's so young.

I would also take the DS and OG Game Boy over all but the SNES. The 3DS, GBA, Virtual Boy and GBC would be below the Wii, in that order.

How is Wii U still alive?

Going purely off console-specific libraries, I would easily take the Wii U over the OG Wii, and I'd give it a slight edge over the GameCube. Also the Switch, but that one's so young that it isn't really a fair comparison.

The Wii is definitely my least favorite. Casual-fixated Nintendo is the worst Nintendo. So many of their Wii titles have aged like milk.

The NES is the "Charizard" of Nintendo systems. Nintendo has spent countless years pimping it out to the extreme, way more than their other legacy systems, akin to Game Freak's Charizard favouritism. Inevitably, this kind of overexposure is going to lead to "overrated" claims and disillusionment.

But just like "It's freakin' CHARIZARD"... it's the freakin' NES! While the key games have been re-released ad infinitum (which explains why they're such a weak selling point for Switch Online), many of them are still incredible. They have a lean, distilled type of magic that I don't think gets enough credit these days.

It's my second-favorite Nintendo console library, behind the SNES.

I was also surprised to see Our Hospitality mentioned, but it was a pleasant surprise. It's damn good and a great Keaton starting point. I prefer The General, Sherlock Jr. and The Navigator, but all of them are in the same league IMO.

For Lloyd, my favorite is Speedy. It's an absolute delight of a movie and the Babe Ruth cameo is fantastic.

I agree with Double Indemnity and The Treasure of the Sierra Madre being notable snubs. Walter Huston's performance in the latter is brilliant.

Honestly, if they hadn't ported (or released a sequel that completely obsoleted) 95% of the Wii U games worth owning to the Switch, it wouldn't be the worst. It had some pretty solid games.

Oh, absolutely. I always call the Wii U "the best purchase I've ever regretted".

If I knew how fervently Nintendo was going to push their Wii U content to the Switch, I absolutely would have skipped the U and been patient. But the quality-over-quantity game lineup really was bangin' in its time, and playing Splatoon 1 during its prime - Splatfests and all - was a blast.

TRE's post is a damn gem. One potential question I haven't seen, though, is inquiring about payment methods for monthly rent. A surprising number of places are still "check and money order only," but you may get lucky and have the option to just pay online.

Given this info, this isn't crucial, but it's never a bad idea to visit an apartment complex in the day and night alike prior to striking a deal. Nighttime can be pretty telling. Is the property well-lit across the board? Are nosy tenants sizing your car up as you drive along? Do you feel a weird "gut instinct"? All of these are good questions to ponder.
