But like, for real though. That game had no business being as good as it was. They did a great job revamping the music and story in particular; it felt great to play a Pokemon game whose story was sweet and even genuinely funny on occasion. I also felt like the Go mechanics were implemented in a surprisingly tasteful manner.

I won't consider it mainline, no matter what Game Freak says. But I thoroughly enjoyed it with the "spin-off mindset". I'd give it like an 8/10 or so.

I feel like they won't revisit the Let's Go concept, since Sword and Shield are utterly curbstomping LGPE's sales. It's kind of a shame tbh.

I've loved this decade in music. It's one of my favorites, all things considered. But my taste favors R&B, which had a banner decade in particular (especially compared to the 2000s). I can see how fans of other genres (namely rock and its indie counterparts) would be less satisfied.

I also agree that Kids See Ghosts is mediocre, but I'm not a Kid Cudi fan in general. I fucking love Jesus is King though.

The best part was how decidedly distinct online and offline culture were from one another. Corporate/political astroturfing tactics weren't nearly as prolific, people weren't starting IRL fights over fucking Facebook posts, etc.

It was better this way; the Internet and "real life" simply do not mix.

This year and 2018 had very little that appealed to me personally. 2012 was not especially good either. It really did turn out to be a solid decade for gaming overall, though - better than the 2000s IMO.

2017 might be the best year in gaming history, that Switch launch-year lineup was truly something else.

Will I love this game or hate it? Should I just suck it up and try and give them money?

You have a Meijer near you? If so, you could wait until the day after Black Friday and get the game for $10 off + a $10 coupon toward your next purchase. That's the best deal I've seen so far, and might help if (like me) you don't wanna drop full MSRP on this.

Just got Disney+ a few hours ago. I've been warming up with the following:

-Teacher's Pet (TV series). Watched the second episode, since I recently rewatched the pilot. It's such a cute show and it looks glorious in HD. Gary Baseman is a god.
-Geri's Game. One of my favorite Pixar shorts.
-BURN-E. I had no idea this even existed! My roommate said it was a must-see, and I indeed enjoyed it.

Going to watch my first film after the gym. Debating between The Great Mouse Detective, Pinocchio or The Sword in the Stone.

I don't think it's a matter of SwSh defenders or boycotters being particularly worse than the other. I think the split is just a matter of who can remember that this is a video game, these are strangers on the Internet and none of it is worth taking personally... and then those who can't.

Still, this is what I feel

I did not get a spiteful vibe, but I did just read the IGN review and it feels decidedly off - sort of manic, even? The author does a lot of over-the-top raving about really basic shit. It feels less like a typical game review and more like something written by an Instagram "influencer".

I mean....is she wrong about the Pokemon fanbase being toxic?

Honestly, I don't think the Pokemon fanbase has been that unreasonable. There have been some real pills, no doubt about it, but I think most critical folks have been understandable enough. A lot better than the Super Smash Bros. fanbase has been during the Ultimate era, that's for sure...

Folks like this author act entitled to a positive echo chamber. I don't think that's ever a good thing. As an example, I love Splatoon, and Splatoon 2 received a good deal of flak during its launch window. There were the brainlets making bad arguments - "It's just SPLATOON 1.5, maaan!" - and yeah, they could get stuffed. But there were plenty of reasonable criticisms about new weapons, Salmon Run and its limited hours, etc. Even as someone who loves Splatoon to this day, I think that type of healthy criticism is ultimately a good thing, and I feel the same way about Pokemon here.

Tetra - Low Midcarder. Great choice - Tetra is difficult to predict. I'm going with Low Midcarder because GameFAQs never took especially well to Celda, and Tetra isn't brought up as frequently in the Nintendosphere as Midna, Vaati, etc. But, I could see her making it to Midcarder too.

Arthur Morgan - Mid Fodder. John Marston actually did better against Kratos last year than I expected. Not only is the original RDR quite old at this point and not exactly a "GameFAQs game," but man, Kratos is a particularly awful opponent for him to have. This gives me hope that Arthur Morgan won't be bottom-tier, even though RDR2 isn't the new kid on the block anymore.

Chex Warrior - Low Fodder. He's definitely absurd enough to not be LAW Fodder IMO. Joke characters may not have as much pull as they used to, but they still have some pull!

Pak E. Derm (Yoshi)
Poochy (Yoshi)

The first three seasons of Archer are especially excellent. I started rewatching it recently, and they fully hold up. The cast chemistry is tops and the dialogue is razor-sharp.

I concur about Bob's Burgers just being "okay." I've watched episodes from various points in its run, and while I can tolerate the show (unlike fuckin' Big Mouth >_>), I don't particularly enjoy it. Love me some Rick and Morty though.

"Face Off" and "Blackwater" are good runner-up picks for Breaking Bad and Game of Thrones respectively. My personal picks would be "Granite State" for Breaking Bad - which doubles as my favorite episode of television period - and "The Watchers on the Wall" for Game of Thrones.

As for comedy? My favorite episode of the decade would be the Community finale, followed closely by Archer - "Placebo Effect."

Oh the official website updated today to go over various competitive QoL changes.

- Parent Pokemon of the same species can now pass egg moves to each other in the daycare. The example given was two Sylveons being placed in the daycare. One of them had the egg moves Wish, Charm, and Yawn, the other didn't. When withdrawn, both Sylveons had the three egg moves (note this only works if the Pokemon has empty moveslots).
- They mentioned the nature changing mints. Use a specific nature mint and the Pokemon will change to reflect the stat modifiers of that nature (though like with bottlecaps, the nature itself doesn't actually change and thus doesn't help you when breeding)
- You can now max EVs solely through vitamins, no more arbitrary limit of 10.
- There's various Exp candies gained from doing Max Raids (and possibly other ways). XL candies were shown giving 30k exp.
- You can finally nickname Pokemon received in trades, provided they don't already have a nickname. But once you give it a nickname, you can't change it again.

Also we know from the leaker that bottlecaps cost 25 BP and mints cost 50. And Pokemon still have to be level 100 to use bottlecaps. At least the Battle Tower offers rental teams now, so you can actually have access to competitive Pokemon while grinding for the items to make your own Pokemon competitive.

The site also detailed that there will indeed be online influence over Max Raid battles. From release through early January, while connected online, it'll be easier to find Gigantamax Butterfree, as well as G-Drednaw in Sword and G-Corviknight in Shield.

Lots of good shit here. I especially approve of the decision to include rental Pokemon in the Battle Tower, and the new egg move trick is also nice.

I think Santa's concerns are perfectly valid. For me, a full-MSRP purchase isn't happening, and it is disappointing that a series that was once so forward-thinking is now equivalent to chain-restaurant comfort food.

But when the price is right... that food is still comforting, right? I'm sure I'll still enjoy this once I find it on the cheap. I'm only human, man; as long as they don't fuck up the core gameplay and keep the new Pokemon designs appealing, this is a series that I can still enjoy to an extent. But I also have no problem being patient and passing on this at launch, and for a while after as needed.

The thing here is that this is a Nintendo published game, which means the game might never get a permanent price cut. So the only way to avoid paying full price is buying a used copy of the game (preferably not from GameStop, where you'll save like $5 off the full price) or waiting until the game goes on sale for a short period of time.

Yeah, I highly doubt Sword/Shield will ever get a universal price cut, but deals can always be found eventually. I picked up Pokemon Let's Go for $30 from Meijer earlier this year. Pokken Tournament DX was $35-$40 at several retailers last Black Friday. Walmart currently has Pokemon Sun/Moon on chainwide clearance for $23. Etc.

Deals like this take luck and timing, for sure, but that's life when you're a Nintendo fan. I don't mind being patient.

@TheCodeisBosco What did they remove other than a bunch of Pokemon? I'm only asking because I don't know, it's fine if that is the reason you don't want it.

Hmm? I didn't mention removals IIRC, though the massive Pokedex cut is indeed the main thing deterring my purchase. The continued absence of previously-cut features like Battle Frontier and even the Pokeathlon from HGSS is a bummer too, though. In general, it is a series that's trigger-happy with removing features.

More than anything, it just feels like we're getting little in exchange for all the cuts and the increased price tag. I don't find new features like Dynamax/Gigantimax and curry appealing at all; they seem nowhere near as interesting/useful as additions like the Pokewalker or rideable Pokemon were. Aside from the new Pokemon, there just isn't much I can get excited about, especially in light of the problems.

The foxes are pretty cool and the elephant is adorable. Not sure how I feel about the purple thing. I kinda like it for some weird reason, but I could see it having wack evo(s).

the only thing that exists here is KFC, it's sad.

yeah where I live the only major chicken places are KFC and Lee's and I'm not a fan of either one

Lee's used to be a lot better than it is now. My local Lee's are foul nowadays - the potato wedges always turn out shriveled-up for some reason. It's gross.

Yeah, Bojangles isn't ubiquitous, but it's at least widespread enough that it isn't localized to a specific city or state.

My nearest Bojangles is about a half-hour away. I've actually made the drive a couple times, though... It really is that much better than most competitors.

I like seeing the Cane's love ITT. Where I live, everyone bitches about it being "overrated," and then proceeds to get in the 15-car Chick-Fil-A drive thru line. >_>

Overall though, Bojangles is my favorite widespread chicken chain. I also think Church's is super underrated.

I saw the thread title and clicked on it and during the ~1 second while this page was loading I realized it was created by a user named sirfetched and so I'm just here to remind those of you who were there for the debate that sirfetched is a very poorly designed character and nothing you think or say will change that.

I actually like Sirfetch'd a lot. Unfortunately, I can't say the same for most of the Galar Pokemon, nor most of what we've seen of Pokemon Sword/Shield itself.

(The new Zigzagoon line is GOAT-tier though)

This is a pretty strange thing to attach your identity to when you can't even buy it without your mom taking you there.

I know it seems like a fun joke to troll online but you WILL (if you already haven't) turn over all control over your core beliefs to the propagandists, and then you're Vlado. Good luck.

Fucking lol. The best jokes have truth to them.
