...I've honestly forgotten, is it proper to capitalize days? My phone thinks it is...

My usual drink is gin, and I can drink most of a bottle before I black out. even then I'm half cognisant most of the time. Bourbon and other dark spirits usually send me into a stupor, while gin doesn't. But this 90 proof Cougar is delicious, and I'm feeling risky.

It's one of the better movies pre-Iron Man, but post TDK/MCU, Spider-Man 2 has not aged all that well. It's not bad, but it's not remarkable anymore.

Spider-Man 1 is fantastic. Schlocky and dated, but undeniably cheesy and fun. There are parts where Spider-Man and Green Goblin are fighting, and it's like two Power Rangers stuntmen are going at it. I love it.

And like sure, the MCU has Michael Keaton and Jeff Bridges and James Spader and Kurt Russell as villains - but where else are you gonna get a villain as incredibly committed and hammy as Willem Dafoe's Green Goblin? That shit is incredible.

Spider-Man 2 isn't bad, but it lacked the spark that I loved so much about the first movie. And the third one is undeniably mishandled, but with the removal of a single villain - like even if they decided to save Eddie Brock's Venom for a fourth movie, and left it at him getting the suit/getting fired for plagiarism, that movie could have been tightened up into something workable.

Are they dated and corny, left behind in the shadow of the current superhero blockbuster climate? Sure. But they're still solid blockbusters for their time.

Hey, joined around late 2015. Things got really Trumpy when the election was going on, and you get your political trolling every other day of the week.

Coalitions of users formed in individual discords, and those conclaves of users have initiated user drama amongst themselves - examples being Sanctuary, a community board headed by chill02 and another user who got doxxed, leading to the dissolution of the group, and The Fam, a group of trolls who spent a few months spamming CE with circlejerk topics full of assholes. Also, Caution Club, which is where a bunch of users got together to make racist comments - they got outed for some really bad stuff they said in that discord, which was a bit of a hoot.

I have no idea what CE has been like pre-2016, but that's some stuff that's been going on since I joined. Folks are still around, some folks have died. Y'know, regular online community stuff.

I've always enjoyed Cougar bourbon. It's something that my mum drank in the past, and out of all the bourbons and whiskeys and other dark spirits I've tried, I would say that this has been the tastiest. Recently, as outlined in my "buying alcohol online" thread, I got myself a bottle of Cougar bourbon - all I saw was 45 and a darker label, so I decided to pick it up and give it a try.

I just opened it and mixed myself a glass with Coke.

It has a very smooth, robust flavor. Not that much different than regular Cougar bourbon, just a touch stronger. Regular Cougar is good enough, but if you don't mind the regular variety, this might be a fun choice to try out if you ever run into it.

If a game that prides itself on being an intensely difficult challenge wants to only offer that challenge, they should have the right to do so. It's because of that that I don't think Sekiro should have an easy mode - busting your balls to get to the end is a part of the appeal, and it's how the game was designed.

With that being said, if a game wants to include an easy mode, or if the entire focus isn't necessarily on difficulty - cool, whatever. Developers can and should listen to feedback, and if their game has balancing issues or if the difficulty present has caught people off-guard in a way that's bad for business or otherwise unpleasant for folks, they should have every right to go back, tweak some variables and make the game a bit easier for everyone.

I don't think the Sekiro backlash was justified, that's a game that's built from the ground up to be a fair challenge to those who are willing to put themselves through it. I don't think I'll ever invest in a Soulsborne game, personally, because the challenge doesn't appeal to me - it's not my scene at all. But I understand and respect folks who find the challenge of those games rewarding, and I don't think the developers of these challenging games should be pressured into including an easy mode that they have no desire to add.

With that being said - if you get your panties in a wad when a traditionally difficult game series adds easier difficulty options, then you're a fucking snowflake. You have your preferred difficulty mode, so use it. Bitching about "casuals" ruining your favorite game is some of the most pathetic shit I've ever seen, looking at you Fire Emblem community.

I remember trying the Mew Glitch in RBY and being blown away by it actually working. It sounded like a rumor a little kid would claim his "dad who works at Nintendo" told him, but it actually worked. After that, I dug deeper into it, and it really is crazy what some of these people were capable of.

With enough prior setup, people were literally able to glitch the older Pokemon games into executing arbitrary code, which allowed them to pretty much do anything they wanted. They could generate Pokemon and items, skip entire parts of the game, even code an entirely new game inside the game. I once saw a video of someone coding and playing Pong inside one of the original Pokemon games. It's a testament to how dedicated of a community was built around glitching these games, but it's also a testament to how unbelievably shitty the coding in these games really was.

The code they used was bleeding edge, though. It's a fucking miracle that something as massive and ambitious as Pokemon RBY worked on the handheld at all, and they had to use every trick in the book to get it to fit on those tiny cartridges. The code is only shitty and unstable because they were breaking the Game Boy's back trying to run such an ambitious game. The Game Boy was over four years old when the first Pokemon games came out - they were working with ancient hardware that wasn't suited to the sort of game they wanted to make, and they made it work.

I read a really great post that outlined every hurdle that Game Freak faced in trying to create the first Pokemon games, and how they overcame these limitations to bring the game to life. They used a lot of compression, and I think they allocated memory in unprecedented ways in order to make the games function. It's a technological achievement that Pokemon exists at all.

There are some folks who would rub washing powder into the connectors of their cartridges to create more unpredictable results. I always think back to these people who claimed that rubbing washing powder into their cartridge's connectors made their games more unstable and easier to glitch. That's hardcore.

It was pretty funny. But I think it took a pretty nuanced stance on relationship dysfunction, and while obv. relationship breakdowns aren't this advanced yet, technology only serves to give dysfunctional people more avenues to practice dysfunction like this. And it's not their fault, necessarily - people have different needs, but they have trouble expressing these different needs after establishing a relationship on different grounds. Like shit, sometimes you fool yourself into a relationship even through you're struggling with feelings for a gender that your partner doesn't embody. Even in a post-homophobic relationship, that's a scenario that would be hard to admit.

But even today, there are guys and girls who can't give up that dating app rush they get when someone messages them. Even when they're already in a relationship. Some people get a gay rush when they're in a relationship with the opposite sex. Technology muddies the already murky waters of commitment, and while that might not necessarily be the case with everyone, it's enough of an issue that deserves some light in a high-concept show like Black Mirror. It was a good one.

Night in the Woods is really good. I don't play it a lot, I let it sit for weeks between play sessions, but the level of quality is through the roof. The story is really good, and while the dialogue has that indie twang - kinda like Life is Strange - it's really gripping on an emotional level. The constant gameplay shakeups are unexpected and fun, too.

I spoiled that the game has "routes", so to speak. Not necessarily romantic ones, but still. A part of me hopes that Mae and Bea end up romantically involved, but with the way the game's going, I would be more than gratified if the story shirked romance in favor of the same fun, strong characterisation that it's built up already. The dreams are sick as fuck.
