"In the English language, the word ****** is a racial slur typically directed at black people. The word first originated in the 18th century as an adaptation of the Spanish negro, a descendant of the Latin adjective **** which means black. It was often used derogatorily, and by the mid-twentieth century, particularly in the United States, its usage became unambiguously pejorative, a racist insult. Accordingly, it began to disappear from popular culture, and its continued inclusion in classic works of literature has sparked controversy. Because the term is considered extremely offensive, it is often referred to by the euphemism "N-word". - Wikipedia

Eh I mean it's like a minimum wage job or barely above minimum wage, it's not like truck driving or anything. Some people do tip the attendant so there's that but I don't know if they're supposed to take tips and I doubt it's even a significant amount.

Gotcha. Because there's some jobs out there that may not seem to pay too well, but actually do. Some garbage collectors in NYC make 80k.

And then there's the bellmen at certain hotels and professional waiters across the country that can easily pull in more than teachers.

I don't know what you mean by "is the job looked down on". I think only a******s look down on people for working tbh.

He probably means it's not a glorified job that pays well. Like, someone 40 years old should probably not be pumping gas full time just like someone 40 years old should not be working for minimum wage in a Taco Bell full time. It's not good to make fun of anyone for working, I agree with that.

But is it like working minimum wage at a Taco Bell? Or is it like "Oh well it's a decent job. Pays several more dollars over minimum wage."

Or is it, like, "Dang, this dude makes 60k pumping gas. He's doing alright for himself"?

Ive been wondering about this too

there's always a station in town to get gas (they have an attendant all hours of the night).
though towns in your area will vary if they're open or not.

So some will be closed and you'll have to drive out of your way to find one open?

For example, in most bigger cities, there's a gas station pretty much everywhere. You drive down this street, a gas station. Drive down the next, a gas station. But only half of them are probably 24/7.

A few states require someone to pump your gas for you.

Are there less options to fill up? Particularly at night? At most states, if you need gas at 3 am, you can just drive down to the corner and use a credit/debit card, even if the station itself is closed.

Is it harder to find gas at night? Or is there always someone there?

Because there's dozens of them and corporations make you switch it every few months.

There are apps that remember all that stuff for you.

That shit doesn't sound safe at all.

It's all encrypted and stored on your device. I haven't used one, but there are some ones that are said to be safe and from reputable companies.

It's safe until you get phished and someone steals your password keychain. Then they have access to all your passwords.

Will that happen to most people? Probably not.

But the absolute safest method, IMO, is remembering strong passwords and changing them frequently. If you have to, write them down and hide them in a safe place. The person trying to gain your information is most likely doing it via the Internet, and not robbing your home trying to look for a small sheet of paper somewhere with random passwords on it.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_midterm_election#Historical_record_of_midterm
Midterm elections are sometimes regarded as a referendum on the sitting president's and/or incumbent party's performance.[4][5] The party of the incumbent president tends to lose ground during midterm elections: since WWII the President's party has lost an average 26 seats in the House, and an average four seats in the Senate; moreover, in only five of those has the President's party gained seats in either house and of those only one has seen the President's party gain seats in both houses.

Trump lost about the average in the house and gained 3 instead of losing 4 in the senate. Smugness likely comes from the recognition that if this was meant to be a referendum on Trump, that the country as a whole is a lot less dissatisfied than Democrats would want people to believe, which bodes well for 2020 when the ruling party often fares better.

Basically a loss of seats was almost guaranteed, regardless of president, so losing less than expected and actually gaining in the senate (which is uncommon) is a positive sign in terms of overall party appeal.

VictimComplex already addressed some of this, but I'd also like to point out that "Only 5 times since WWII" is about 25% of the time.

So 75% of the time they dont gain in either house or Senate.

And only 5% of the time they gain in both.

Seems like Trump fared pretty well for being supposedly hated so badly.

They know full well it wasn't faked. So that reason doesn't even apply here. And when the racists are called out people get moded for "harassment". Give me a break.

Maybe deep down they do. But when you have standards in place, they need to be consistently applied. And it would absolutely be opening up a can of worms and could easily be manipulated. All it would take is a few users saying "oh lookie here" and an innocent person could be framed for something.

Unpaid volunteers spend enough time moderating people on this site. I doubt they want to create some whole new system to verifiably track activity off site. Come on.

What, exactly, is OKAY with Acosta continuing on and on and not giving up when it was someone else's turn to ask questions?

And what is okay with him interjecting his own opinion? He's supposed to be asking questions as a journalist. Not telling the president how he personally feels that they're migrants and not invaders.

Who do you think gets to decide when Acosta's turn is over?

They're generally allowed two questions. Here's exactly how the Acosta-Trump exchange went down:

Acosta: Question 1 with a challenge.

Trump: Answer

Acosta: Question 2

Trump: Answer

Acosta: Accusation

Trump: Response

Acosta: Assertion

Trump: Response

Acosta: Wants another question

Trump: That's enough

Acosta: Proceeds to continue speaking, despite Trump calling another person and refuses to give up the mic.

What were the questions and the responses? I say responses because I'm not confident that what trump responded with would qualify as "answers" to the questions asked, given his common tendencies.

Here's a video from start to finish. Acosta seems to want to debate and argue with Trump instead of listening to what Trump has to say, or, really, even asking him questions.

You can watch a full version on Youtube as well and reflect on other reporters' behavior and professionalism and compare and contrast to Acosta's.

link to transcript?

I don't have a transcript and I'm not going to write one beyond what I already did.

Trump did answer the questions directly, it was all over pretty quickly. But he did answer the questions. Acosta wanted like 10 minutes of Q&A with Trump. He wanted to go on and on.
