Use your rewards card at every table game and stick it in every machine. The majority is based off of average bet size and length of play. So sitting down at a table game for only a few minutes won't give you shit, even if you're betting big. You need to consistently play for hours to really start raking in the rewards. If you play for hours and your bet is $10-$25/hand on a table game, you'll get rooms. Or if you're playing $1-$2/spin on slots.

If he only wants to make a few purchases without maxing out his new one, then it won't be so bad. He should cease all spending on his current card and start paying it off, while ideally ceasing spending on his new card after Black Friday.

It's OK to be a few grand in debt if you are able to manage it. However, if you are relying on credit cards to live and constantly using them for daily expenses it can become a problem if your disposable income is less than you are spending.
