I mean it's a bit of confirmation bias because you're going to remember the ones you bought off and not remember all the other ones who joined, but you didn't literally buy off every Steiner saver.

But for someone like me who looks at the FFIX fanbase on this board and their saving habits, and who is grimacing as killing one makes all the rest stronger, I've got confirmation bias on the other end.

I'm not saying FFIX did most of the work for you, just that if you'd done it with a low carder from another game I think you would've failed.

It's like the SMFFFC version of "whoo Pokemon was rallied to another win those plucky underdogs"

Well, it can't be Amarant. Amarant is anti-FFIX by design. Like even in the game. There's some sort of plot going on and Amarant is too cool for it. That's actually his character.

Change that to literally any other character in the game though, even the lesser liked ones, and I think you'd see it, though.

Also like, Lloyd has several EX-Skills which are exclusively designed to make countering easier. I mentioned the Counter thing, but he also has another which allows him to counter while being knocked into the air (R. Arts) and another which allows him to fully link techs off counters (C. Guard).

He also has a kinda superior air game as he has some other EX-Skills that allow guarding in the air (Aerial Guard) and doing most of his airborne techs while jumping (Sky Attack), along with the ability to chain off of those into a normal combo upon landing (Jump Combo).

But yeah outspeeding him or out maneuvering him is basically a trap by design unless you're fighting with ranged attacks. It's basically the message you're given from his techs and fighting style. Like yes I am high on Lloyd respect and probably middling (though not one of the Sonic disrespect guys) on Sonic respect, but this is just styles advantage to Lloyd I think.

Sword rain is mostly just evidence that he can attack really fast. I don't see it being relevant in the match either. I think the Tempest and Tiger Blade lines (which are quick in their own right) are what's likely to be used for counter attacks.

****1/2 for Charlotte/Becky huh. I think you caught the Meltzer disease dude. The pacing kinda died at the end. The Powerbomb thing was cool but everything between that and like, the part where Becky was about to leave with the title felt like filler to me. A poor escalation from the stuff earlier with the chairs and slams onto the ladder and stuff.

I'd probably put it as my #4 match of the night honestly. Think I preferred the MYC final, NXT, and even Nikki/Ronda to it. It did clear the bar for actually being good but not by a ton.

Actually that entire video is a good visual of Lloyd's techs. It's only like a minute so it's a good way to see if you're convinced. I'll relink without the time tag.



The sword rain set of techs and the tempest set of techs I see as being pretty good counters/evidence for Lloyd's attack speed on being able to hit Sonic. Also Falcon Crest which I talked about earlier.

Lloyd Irving

Just a bad match-up for Sonic. On strength and durability Lloyd has a decisive edge, and while obviously Sonic is fast, the big thing is Lloyd's attack speed and reflexes are very high-- he's not going to keep up with Sonic on a pure speed basis, but landing some counter hits will be doable-- the speed shown in stuff from the Sword Rain line shows he's able to swing his sword pretty damn fast. This is further augmented by the Counter Compound EX-Skill which allows him to attack more quickly after blocking. Over limit, when he reaches it, allows him to completely no sell Sonic's attacks which will make counterhitting Sonic during one of his attacks very easily. Also it doesn't come up very often but I think Lloyd's Ultimate Attack is very well suited to thrashing Sonic

Instant AOE around him with knock-up into a combo for massive damage. Against a guy like Sonic who needs to get in and doesn't have a lot of burst damage potential, countering with this will come up at some point.

Not to mention Lloyd has some techs with wide sweeping arcs that are basically designed to tag guys that need to charge in at him. The tempest line in particular basically has Sonic's spin dash with swords.

Also he can use Guardian to block things that he can't see well-- combined with the increased counterhit speed getting an opening should be reasonable.

Geralt v Rosalina

I believe in Geralt to not be garbage, and Fox and Captain Toad seeming kinda weak has at least convinced me that not all Nintendo will do well just for being Nintendo. Rosalina's probably a bit weaker than Peach, and Geralt is probably a bit weaker than Alucard. Thusly in the range of Peach-Alucard is what I'm expecting.

Ryu Hayabusa v Simon Belmont

Hayabusa should thrash Belmont normally. Hayabusa even has some presence in Belmont's old school base. This is match will basically be directly measuring Smash hype, and what it's worth. I'm thinking for a guy like Simon, not a ton.

Sans v Pac-Man

Sans will be anti-voted after last games contest, and weaker than unrallied Undertale on his own. Pac-Man likes these things. If this were run on Halloween I would have given Sans a chance just for being in season, but yeah Pac should have him easily unless Undertale fans care to rally, which I don't believe they will. One victory I'd imagine should be enough for them, and the game isn't getting any younger or more relevant either.

Bayonetta v Riku

Riku's the kind of guy I expect to get weaker and weaker, and I don't think he's going to be particularly helped by KH3 hype. Sora's still "oh, hey, Kingdom Hearts, I liked that!" But Riku is like... who could be passionate about Riku, you know? Your mind isn't going to instantly jump to Riku when you hear the announcement of KH3. Riku's like 15th place behind Sora and a bunch of Disney stuff. Effects should be negligible. Bayonetta on the other hand has nowhere to go but up, and off Smash should have enough to get by him I think.
