Fox Sports North (broadcasts most of the wild/twins/timberwolves games) has a total of about 7 of the most god awful commercials i've ever seen and they broadcast them on repeat. It's really bad for hockey games because they basically just show commercials for 20 minutes between periods

Yeah I'm sure there were tons of people complaining about using taxpayer money for a stadium and would have complained even more with the extra 100 mil. I'm not saying being against public funding for stadiums is stupid (because it's not), but I won't get into that right now.

Anyway, some people were purposefully buying tickets for this weekends twins games for dirt cheap, knowing it would get delayed and they'd be able to transfer the tickets to a different game later on with nice summer weather. Seems smart

There are like ten postponed MLB games because of bad weather. So much for that global warming huh!!!

there have been so many people on twitter/where ever else complaining that they didn't put a retractable roof on target field.

since the place was built, this is apparently the first time there have been back to back postponed games (rain or snow), so that seems like a dumb argument.

This is also a freak snowstorm...biggest snowfall in years, and it happens to be in mid april. It's been snowing since friday night and it's higher than my knees now

I was reading about older blockbuster NFL trades and it's crazy how much things have changed. Trades like this would never happen nowadays. Here are 2 absolutely crazy ones

Ricky Williams trade
Saints traded their entire fucking draft, and a first and a third the following year to move up to pick 5 to get Ricky Williams.

And the Raiders traded Jon Gruden (their head coach at the time) to Tampa for 2 firsts and 2 2nds. Then the very next year, Gruden beat the Raiders in the super bowl.

And of course, the Vikings made the worst trade in history with the Herschel Walker trade

It is good. 3000 is where you auto reach the HoF and obviously he won't get there and he is unlikely to make the Hall anyway but it's not totally inconceivable. Catchers sometimes get a boost to their candidacy and sometimes they're totally passed over for no reason so it's hard to say. The MVP will help. He definitely had Hall of Fame talent but he has just thrown away too many years due to health or just playing like shit. Seems like a cool guy though and his 2009 was truly amazing

I don't think many twinkles fans are talking about HoF for mighty Joe, but he'll be a twins legend forever. Looking back, his contract wasn't even that bad (the twins are notorious for never actually paying players and the mauer contract was apparently a huge deal), but he had a few slump years when fans had massive expectations for him, after his monster seasons. The last few years he's been quietly pretty darn good again

I wouldn't even begin to know which one is my favorite, since I seem to spend more time nowadays complaining and agonizing over sports than enjoying them.

TBH, I've lately found hockey to be the most enjoyable to watch, but it feels wrong to call it my favorite. I didn't really grow up watching it, and of the four sports it's still the one whose rules and strategy I understand the least. I only really watch it in the playoffs though, which is also the only time I enjoy MLB and NBA. There's just too many games, local announcers are shitty and the vibe is unexciting with half-empty stadiums/arenas.

The NFL is a lot more fun to watch in the regular season since each game feels almost like the playoffs in the other sports, but the length of stoppages and commercials is starting to get unbearable for me. Anyways, gun to my head I'd probably answer your question with football and baseball, but hockey could replace either of those soon

I'm getting better at watching basketball and baseball. Honestly a large part of it is the twins and pups getting better, and probably me getting older.

I was wondering how that works with the MLB season being kind of out of sync with the other 3. Are the teams from each sport that start in 2018 all the same "year" ?

Now that I actually sit down and think about it, I'm not sure how else it would work. makes perfect sense

It would be really amusing if they were doing this on purpose to channel the Packers.

It's more likely because hockey fans are not creative whatsoever.

well winnipeg has used that chant forever years, and the packers use this stupid little jingle then yell go pack go, and in that sense it's different than the GB one. And from what I understand, most of the jets fans that do care about football are vikings fans

Are there "thankless job" positions in basketball and baseball (or other sports)? I was extremely bored today and was thinking about offensive linemen in football and defensemen in hockey (specifically pure defenseman rather than offensive defenseman), and if they do their job very well, it's very rarely going to make a highlight reel, get cheered for, or even noticed by most fans.

I don't know enough about the other sports to recognize when a player is doing their job versus going the extra mile and making an awesome play that doesn't get noticed by a lot of people

Every time the Wild play the Jets, a ton of Jets fans make the trip to St. Paul because they're the closest team to us geographically, and apparently it's expensive/hard to get Jets home tickets. I checked playoff ticket prices in Winnipeg out of curiosity and holy shit I can see why. Cheapest seats for game 1 are $330 in Winnipeg. Cheapest seats in MN are about $100. I also didn't realize that Winnipeg's arena is tiny (~15k capacity)
