Not a big fan.

In theory it should be great, game just gets more and more content right? But there's something to be said for actual having a concrete ending, an "ok this game is finished" that I don't really want to totally lose. And a game potentially being very different if you come back to it years in the future is somewhat disorienting imo

This is more true of single player focused games that do this, though. Games which are largely about multiplayer, especially competitive focused, can often use a certain degree of updates to keep the game fresh and ensure it's actually balanced

Well I guess you could say, yes, the waifus. But I think that masks the importance of quantity over quality here. Most of the characters are barely fleshed out in official works which gives the fans free reign to interpret minor offhand comments about the character / their personality in extreme ways which adds to the whole meme propagation ability.

If it was just a handful of well crafted waifu characters I don't think it would have seen the same pull of fan involvement

touhou porn is definitely a part of it but it's not like it's the only part. It's basically probably some combination of:

Many characters, often with just a few exaggerated personality traits (good for fan works / fanfiction since they can fill the blanks however)

A variety of often wacky character designs (good for artists, animators, anything visual)

a significant amount of really catchy tunes (good for remixers and songwriters)

general acceptance by the creator of fanmade works (good for all of the above + explains why there are such a ridiculous number of touhou fangames that are actually sold for money)

good timing with japanese artwork/subculture stuff (pixiv)

there are a ridiculous amount of very popular fangames with touhou characters. one of the best selling games on allages dlsite is labyrinth of touhou which is basically etrian odyssey with touhou characters and is not an official work. can you imagine, say, mario fans making "labyrinth of mario" and selling thousands of copies at like $20 each? they'd get shut down so fast lol

Vesperia had Gattuso as the 4th boss, if you were playing on Hard mode up til then you'd think it was a completely different game.

I had to stop and grind like 4-5 levels when I got here on hard mode lol

compared to that boss everything else in the game was so easy, it made me wonder if the difficulty was an accident since it's an extreme outlier

cross tag battle has probably the simplest inputs of any fighting game I've ever played, literally the most complicated thing is quarter circles. there's no dp motion, there's no half circles, a few characters have 22A/B/C but that's probably easier. Specials are 236. Supers are 236. dp is a universal mechanic on a single button. The game barely even has any buttons in the first place. and it has an autocombo system

I'm gonna blame it half on big crossover games being able to attract a lot of less hardcore players since it has more breadth of existing audience compared to a game which has only one set of characters. Also the release being extremely bad with many features non-functional, poorly designed or just not there at all. Game performance is surprisingly bad, and there are random crashes

considering some games I've seen pretty much outright say in their description that they're trolling, there's certainly some out there that it's obvious. which I assume is the only ones they'll really bother with

You didn't have to interact with it directly, right? I had a huge folder thing with the ballot on the inside, so it just felt like most other elections.

no, you hand the huge folder to someone and they put it in. it wasn't like it was off in this hidden room or anything though so I could see it and notice it was new. I talked to the person putting in the votes about it a little because I was curious and they said this is essentially the trial run of it and if it works well they'll use it for other elections too

I've definitely teared up to songs by themselves but they're always songs I'd already heard as BGM for games/movies/shows/etc and so it's probably influenced a fair bit by the emotions I associate with the source material

He assumed everyone there was his friend and would keep it to themselves. If he wanted no one else to have it he would have been best off never putting it on the internet in the first place.

yeah, that's what I mean, it's an ineffective threat. either you trust the people there not to do it when you tell them not to, or you just never upload it yourself in the first place. that sort of threat that he decided to go with seems both unecessary and useless.

I wouldn't say that every game needs it or that adding it to games would improve them, but reacting and adapting to unexpected situations is also a skill and I don't see why it should categorically be excluded from anything competitive. Playing the odds and judging risk/reward is also another skill

though games where the winner can be instantly decided by a moment of bad luck are a bit :/

but I watched the show it's from earlier today. It's, uh.. definitely something. without a doubt one of the "worst" anime I have ever seen, in the sense that it at no point resembles a story in any way, nor does it really have characters either. But despite this it manages to be sort of entertaining in this "how was this ever actually made and what madman approved it" way. It's a very surreal experience to see something that doesn't fail, simply because it never even tried in the first place

it's only a single 40 minute OVA (of which you can probably skip the last 6-7 minutes since it's an interview with some of the staff, unsubbed, talking really quietly with a bunch of white noise so you can't hear anything) so I totally recommend finding a few unsuspecting friends who have never heard of it before and groupwatching it with them

making companies more transparent about the data they collect and more restricted in what they can do with it without good reason is good though. And I don't really have any sympathy for any sites that have issues scrambling to get this settled when it's been upcoming for years now

I was making a turn and leaning a lot of my weight onto one handlebar when the rubber grip thing came detached, slid off the end, and I just completely fell over sideways with no warning at all since suddenly I had nothing to lean onto. Had a pretty big scrape on my face and my left knee, basically just cancelled whatever I was biking to that day (I don't even remember) and went straight home. was all fairly shallow surface injuries so it wasn't long lasting or anything but it really really hurt. my face was also a weird shape for like a week <_<

I also got hit by a car once, which sounds scary, except it was barely moving and I was completely stopped. Didn't even fall off my bike, was more just spooky than anything
