We still have a long way to go of course, but I'm happy that the LGBT community is more visible these days and treated with respect.

How about you, CE?

You don't consider visibility progress? Visibility is what leads to hearts and minds being changed.

It's easy to hate an entire group of people to which you have no exposure. But when you do have exposure, you see that they're just like everyone else. They want to be loved and happy. And who can be against that?

it's obviously good that gay people can marry, and things are in a much better place, but with how bad things still are in the u.s(not just for gay people, just overall)

it's hard to get too excited

especially when corporate bullshit is co-opting the stonewall riots

I see it as one step forward=gays:lesbians being more accepted and being able to legally marry, but two steps backwards=SJWs, transsexuals trying to force straight men to bang or date them, the war on men in general, modern feminism, and when the left says MS-13 members are better then Trump supporters.

I have a grudge against the LGBT for appropriating the rainbow

Yes, in my life I've seen support for gay marriage swing from 15% to 85%. (Ass pull numbers but the change was more or less that big and in a short decade to boot.)

There's still a bit of ways to go, many states don't have sexuality as a protected class but other than that, we've nearly achieved equality for gays.
As for trans, they shouldn't be compartmentalized with them. It's a radically different checkbox but it's good to see their acceptance, even if there are a bunch of loud idiot regressives that take it far too far with the pronouns and such.

I'm literally writing a casenote about that in law school right now. It's slowly shifting more towards sexual orientation being a protected class but in federal courts, it's still split fairly down the middle on whether it is or not. The 2nd circuit changed the law just a couple months ago and made sexual orientation a protected class and for the most part, I think the other circuits that haven't yet eventually will.

So just thought everyone should know. Turns out yesterday there was a petition for a case from the 2nd circuit to get certiori which means discrimination against sexual orientation being protected by the Civil Rights Act may be going to the SCOTUS very soon here.

So this might be one of the biggest LGBTQ+ moments since gay marriage was legalized nationwide.

But Society hasn't progressed far enough.

Polygamy isn't legally / socially acceptable everywhere.

Age of Consent is way too high in many States/Countries.

There are a whole range of people in the QUILTBAG movement who hasn't been serviced.

Intersex / Inter-Species / Incestuous /
Lesbian / Loose / Liberal /
Transgender / Transvestite / Two-Spirit / Triple-Spirit
Bi-Sexual / Bigamous / Bi-Racial / Bi-Species
Asexual / Aracial / Ally of the Cause /
Gay / Gender queer / Gender identities / Gender alignments

Only a few on the QUILTBAG Acronym list has been helped.

What about the rest?

this isn't true at all, there are significant barrier posed by establishment liberals

like literal gay activists in the 70s turned their back on the primary causers of the stone wall riots because they weren't "prime and proper enough"

liberals may have not been attacking MLK and the marchers with him, but they quietly poo pooed him

Conservatives may be more of a barrier, but suggesting that they are the only barrier is a very poor, and inaccurate reading of the current situation in America.

A Significant amount of American "liberals" are not particularly liberal at all.

Im proud of how far we've come, this is the safest I've felt as a gay man in America.

I think we're mostly tolerated here, "acceptance" is another story. But it's baby steps.

I don't personally feel "pride" in my orientation though. It's not like i worked / earned anything by liking men. But it's nothing anyone should ever feel shame or lower self-worth over, it's irrelevant to the content of your character.

As good as it is to promote equality regardless of a person's sexual orientation, I don't really like the idea of "Gay Pride Month" because it implies that a person's sexuality defines who they are, and that it is a quality of them that must be flaunted. Basically, it implies that LGBT is "special" and not treating them like everyone else.

That's not true at all bro. Being gay was very difficult in America and still is in a lot of places. Being able to come out of the closet and stop hiding that part of you is very freeing for those people. Because it is indeed a part of who they aren't but in no way does that mean its the entirety of their being, or "defines" them as you put it. It sounds like you have some personal hang ups when it comes to gay people celebrating the fact that they can take pride in an aspect of their being that they used to be forced to hide and were ashamed of.

That's definitely not true and makes 0 sense. Pride month doesn't cause people to be bigots, it exposes their bigotry. Cuz they're bigoted all year long, not just during pride month.
