Oh yeah Zemo's plan was incredibly complicated and made almost no sense

I didn't think so. It's a plan that relies on a lot of luck but it's basically:

1. Find out what that Bucky might know something related to the Starks
2. Interroage Bucky using ingrained mind codeword stuff
3. Reveal new information to Stark and watch the fireworks

Framing Bucky by causing an international incident to smoke him out of hiding, then managing to infiltrate his holding cell, were both pretty crazy and could have easily failed. But that's what I like about it. Zemo doesn't have any superpowers to work with, so his only option to hurt the Avengers was to come up with an extremely risky plan that no sane person would have considered.

That's fair if you assume getting the three of them to Siberia wasn't part of his plan

The way he was acting, it was, though I guess he would.

I guess

Still I think the movie set that up to succeed and for Holdo to be usurped by Poe because he knows best.

That does rely on what I think is the movie's biggest problem though - Holdo not telling anyone the plan

What was "mold breaking" about TLJ

I legit don't know

uh it killed off Snoke

I guess

I think for a Star Wars movie the super dumb, rash, ill-conceived plan against overwhelming odds actually failing - not only failing but making things worse - was a bit surprising. Also arguably the bait and switch on the Luke/Kylo battle.

Snoke dying was absolutely fantastic though. Snoke was useless and it aided the development of the best part of this trilogy, Kylo Ren.

I actually think this is good though

His plan might have been insanely contrived but his motivation and acknowledgement that he only wanted to make them destroy each other because he knew he couldn't kill them was excellent.

I don't think it's that cut-and-dried that Tony was wrong.

Especially when the alternative was to "retire" as Ross put it. As I said before, Widow's arguments were the ones that made the most sense to me. Actively going against the literal UN isn't something you do lightly, and given that they blew up an entire country in AoU I can buy that there may be a need to take a step to win back the trust of the public.

I think the introduction of the accords itself smacks of politicians excessively meddling in shit, and I'd rather it wasn't there, but once it's out there and you have 150 countries telling you to sign it, and you say no to that? Isn't that a little arrogant?

the movie made it pretty clear that cap was in the right

which is another slight annoyance with this film, it never really felt like anyone other than cap and iron man were at odds with each other. and it wasn't really a fight between fundamental ideologies like the comics stressed

widow and hawkeye even have awkward friendly banter while kicking each other's asses. spidey and antman are just kinda along for the ride because why not. black widow was always on cap's side and it seems like they threw her in iron man's camp to even out the numbers and to use her as a plot device.

that said I realize this is a superhero movie

I thought what Widow said in the initial argument scene made some sense - the stuff about "winning the public's trust back", and how she was trying to keep one hand on the wheel, to work with the UN rather than against them. I thought her being in agreement with the accords made sense for the pragmatic nature of her character and her switching sides to Cap - because ultimately she's more loyal to him than the accords - also made sense.

I don't completely disagree with you, I just think you're going a bit far - Ant Man and Spiderman added so much to the spectacle of that one fight scene, but their appearances are really contrived and that possibly detracts from the movie as a whole. Hawkeye was there because Team Cap needed someone to "rescue" Wanda and Wanda was only there because she was rescued. And Bucky for obvious reasons.

But I think Widow, Cap, Iron Man, Falcon, War Machine and Vision at least all laid out their positions pretty clearly. I really liked those scenes, both the one at the Avengers compound where they argue about the accords and the private one between Cap and Iron Man in the office, with the FDR pen.

I assume the idea from Thanoss standpoint is that if he just creates more resources, nobody learns anything and they just keep doing what theyre doing because hey Thanos will just help us again

By bringing balance via killing half of people, its a shock to the system and a warning of i can and will just do this again if you keep fucking up

It's not even about balance

That's him justifying shit to himself after the fact imo. He's a violent, prideful monster who can't get over the fact that his people on Titan rejected his plan and now wants to enact that plan on a universal level to wash away his failure and prove that he was right.

The stuff about saving the universe to me just came off as his delusional attempt to justify his pride, his arrogance, and his natural inclination towards violence and death.

I'm super into the Avengers theme, that's 100% my pick. Loved it since hearing it in the credits in the first one, was disappointed it wasn't in the second credits, and marked out when Cap appeared with it in the background in 3.

Agree that the Wonder Woman riff is superb though.

Eh there's a guy who is honestly maybe the worst person I have ever met, a real slimeball, but I'd never want him dead. He's got a kid and a wife and they aren't the worst people I've ever met and don't deserve to lose that guy, as much as I personally find him abhorrent. Wishing death on somebody isn't even particularly productive (that's why what MWC does is so beyond the pale, not only because it's scummy but because it's childish), the people most affected by it aren't the people you want hurt by it. The dead guy is just dead.

I think this movie showed more than anything that Tony has to die. He isn't going to stop until he kills himself. He can't settle down with Pepper because he just isn't going to stop. Not sure he can have a happy ending.

Cap is the same to a degree, though I think Thor sticks around and just leaves Earth as a way of writing him out.

I'd be pretty disappointed if one of those three didn't die. I don't want them to but I think it really has to happen.
