Yeah and if they sent the kids to a tiny cell with their parents, the liberals wouldn't lose their minds there, either.

Who even needs that much cash?

Nobody.

There should be a cap on bank accounts at a reasonable level. When you make that much money, you dont even need to work... You can live off the interest. All income on these multi-millionaire and billionaire accounts that go over the cap should go into a basic income fund for people who qualify. Even if the cap was as low as $50,000,000, that would be enough to afford whatever they wanted. With as much as they earn, they would never drop below that cap.

Short of "this person is going to die if I don't drive them to the hospital right now and I am the most sober person here," there's no justification for drinking and driving. Even that can be really questionable, because you're potentially endangering other people by choosing to drive instead of getting an ambulance, and being inebriated and emotional is going to make it pretty hard to properly assess those risks. It's probably still better to just learn first aid and employ that while waiting for an ambulance instead.

zebatov posted...
If the statistics don't matter, why do they show the negative ones as if they're worse than the positive ones in commercials? Fear-mongering at its finest.

What "positive statistics"? Do drunk drivers spend more time volunteering at puppy orphanages or something? There is no statistical upside to drinking and driving. Absolutely none. The commercials focus on the potential terrible outcomes because it's exactly those terrible outcomes that you're risking by getting behind the wheel, and they need to drive home the gravity of the risks you're choosing to take.

Don't drink and drive. It's extremely simple. Just don't.

I was thinking more if you were being attacked by someone and waiting for the police isn't an option.

Positive being the ones that make it home safe. Ie, almost all of them. You never hear about those. Only the bad that cause accidents or get caught, when they otherwise would have been fine. There are much worse things to worry about in most cities.

Nobody can "handle it". This has been verified by scientific experiments over and over and over again. Some people believe they can and those people are wrong.

I live in BC and I am 100% in support of their drunk driving laws. Again, if you don't like it, don't drink and drive, which you shouldn't be doing anyways because holy shit, don't drink and drive.

Seriously, given how many people have killed themselves (or, far more importantly, other people) while driving drunk, at this point you'd have to be a self-centred raging asshole to ignore history and do the same.

Yeah, it can happen. But again, taking into account how many people do and make it home safe, very rarely by comparison. It's an extra unnecessary risk, sure, but I can think of at least one reason it might be understandable.

What I'm wondering is where the province is going to get all its money from once vehicles drive themselves and there are no more speeding tickets or impaired fines. There's no way I'm owning a vehicle that drives itself and being held accountable for any issues that may occur. And I won't be paying insurance.

Nobody I know. Speed = stopped = worse. Do everything by the book = not speeding/always signal = not caught. Again, people who can handle their shiz shouldn't be bothered. Small-town pigs have nothing better to do with themselves. Focus their attention on people who make it home safe over patrolling high-crime areas = waste of tax dollars that are already being wasted on other things = compounded waste.

Uh...yeah.

Unlike driving the same speed as the rest of the traffic, drinking and driving actually is dangerous, and entirely unnecessary.

Everyone has different limits and I'll bet you'd be quite surprised to find the actual statistics behind the percentage of people who drink and drive, and who make it home safe while doing so, but yeah.

Also, there's a huge difference between a town of 1,000 people all from this country and a giant city of 3,000,000 with a shit-mix of people all from different driving and walking backgrounds, but yet the punishment remains the same.

And actually it isn't any less dangerous. Speeding is probably worse.

Yeah? You think that's bad? Try losing your license for drinking in BC.

You're looking at a $500 reinstatement fee. $700 30-day impound plus tow. Interlock system installed in any vehicle you drive (including for work - explain that to your boss) which costs hundreds of dollars each month for any period they want to put you through it (usually six months). A safe-driving course that costs $900. And if you can't afford the impound fees, they apply to have your vehicle crushed, sue you for the amount owing, and then apply for you to never be able to get insurance on any vehicle or your license back again, nation-wide. Ever. Over a fucking towing company not getting their $600+ impound fees from you. Try doing all that while on disability. You're fucked. The punishment should fit the crime and monetary penalties need to be removed, otherwise the police may as well start carrying debit machines.

Yeah, there's something not right about that.

The only way I've thought of to get out of all of that is to renounce your citizenship and then come back into the country like everyone else. At which point you'd be issued a new SIN and a new record because you'd be a new citizen that just so happens to have the same details as someone who lived there before.

You guys realize that this wasn't entrapment, right?

It's literally the definition of the word. "Caught in a trap".

They have groups here called Creep Catchers doing the same thing. The leader of the Surrey group pled guilty to two counts of assault because of the nature of what he's doing. He gets people attacked all the time, and there are proper, legal ways of going about it, which these people don't go about.

One main reason is that they're creating a situation that isn't there and actually presenting it to these people, many of which wouldn't go out of their way to look for one in the first place.

Imo it should be illegal for someone underage to solicit themselves at the same level it's illegal for an adult to solicit them.
