Found a copy of Deal or No Deal for the DS that I bought on clearance ages ago (paid like $2, still kinda got ripped off) and noticed I'd spilled something on the case. While I was cleaning it, I realized I might as well just get rid of the case since it's unlikely to add resale value (and, even I if I did decide to someday sell it, it's unlikely anybody would buy it), it has no real display value, and the case takes up more room.

Now I'm somewhat debating on getting rid of a bunch of cases for my junkier DS/3DS games since the carts themselves are so damn tiny. The discs for other games I can kinda justify keeping since, no matter what, it takes up a little more space.

What do you mean by paper box case? Like the things that sometimes comes on the outside of the hard, plastic case?

And I think I save them all, when I buy physical. I mainly buy digital now, though

I save all of my console ones and pitch my handheld ones. I have carrying cases for my handheld ones. However, I do keep my Switch cases.

I save boxes 100% of the time.

I still have the original box my copy of Baldur's Gate came in 20 years ago.

I'm assuming he means like if you buy a PC disc, and it comes in a paper sleeve rather than a plastic box. You see it often with cheaper games.

I mean the boxes, which used to be the method for some older games. Case-in-point, I saved the box from my copy of Pokemon Crystal.

While you *can* store them in those older packages, it doesn't make as much sense.

When I was a kid, I threw out the cases for NES, SNES, N64 & GB. Once the nicer quality cases started to come out with discs, I started saving everything. So the only cardboard boxes Ive ever saved started with GBA.

Wish Id saved everything.

Sort of similar to how the NES and SNES used to come in cardboard boxes, but had slipcovers (NES) or plastic caps (SNES) to protect the inside of the cartridges.

Oh, gotcha. So the boxes for games before discs were used

And GB carts used to have small, plastic cases (just large enough to encase the game and thick enough to afford protection) inside the box until they started cheaping out. But yeah, pretty much that, the box that games used to come in before they just started using cases. Or, conversely, just boxes when it's PC games in some cases.

I started saving cases when games started coming on discs. As a kid, my GB(C)[A]/NES/SNES/N64 cases all went to the trash, although I regret today; well, kinda. They would just be in storage, but still!

I do save DS/3DS cases as well.

I save all of them. I can't remember if we threw out the TI-99/4A ones since we sold everything to a friend of the family 30 years ago, but I've never thrown out a box since. Heck, I even kept the plastic bags that the NES cartridges were in inside the box for the few games I bought new back then.

Well, for console games I have all the cases, but for phsyical PC games I either have the jewel case(but not box) or just its disc.

Im thinking of consolidating my collection and taking all of my random numbered sports games and putting them in a cd album and throwing away their case. But I will keep the cases for non generic games I like such as MGS2, 3, FFX, etc.

Everything. I too wish I kept more of the NES/SNES/GB boxes although I have a few. Pretty sure everything from GBA/N64/PS1 and newer is all complete to the best of my knowledge. I still have the boxes from the last few PC games I bought - Quake 4, Doom 3, Serious Sam 2, Half Life 2 (although I do my best for forget about that one)...

When I was a child, the game cartridges were in a plastic case, and placed in light cardboard boxes. I usually didn't save the boxes unless I needed the cardboard for a craft. So far, I think I've saved all the plastic ones (the CD, DVD, and Nintendo DS cartridge cases). However, I think there were 1 or 2 used games I bought without the case, so I didn't have a case to save.
