Yeah, it is.

Pretty popular among the black community. Then it went to mainstream culture.

It says a lot about the quality of the movie, but it isn't saying it's a masterpiece.

Smogal
02/14/18 7:21:33 PM

It is sexist in a culturally brainwashed sort of way, and there are women who do that.

When I was dating, I steered clear of women who said this. I know it's completely anecdotal, but it was usually a sign that they've been force-fed a lot of cultural roles and values, and they pursue those values when looking for a partner, while not expecting to treat their partners the same way.

The statement "I want to be treated like a prince/princess." is weird in general. Being treated well is something all partners should look for, treated like you're monarch, let alone, not even a fully grown one...eh, I don't even think that statement can be empowering for women.

All in all, neither of the above examples are really sexist, unless you're not willing to push those same standards on to yourself as you do with your partner. If you're a woman who says "I expect a man to do this, this, and this." and then turn around and call him sexist when he says he expects women who can cook for him. There's a little bit of hypocrisy there.

Resist white supremacy

Lisa, when we talk about white supremacy, were referring to a systemic racism that is much deeper and more pervasive than any individual or group could be, Aaron replied. Black people do not have the institutional power in our society to benefit from so-called black supremacy. It just doesnt work like that.

Oh so systemic racism is synonymous with white supremacy now? And here I thought the existence of systemic racism in this day age are from the ill affects from racially oriented historical events, not because white people are actively still trying to make the system racist because of racial ideology like the 50s. Also, nobody in their right mind uses the term white supremacy as a substitute for systemic racism unless they are purposely trying to be inflammatory or edgy. As a brown Muslim guy I totally agree with what Addy is saying this topic

Because an anime describes Japanese animation, in everywhere but Japan.

I guess it's starting to change, as people keep using these terms to categorize styles, disregarding the fact that someone from a different origin might take the style one day, like the "JRPG" situation.

The only case where it would be an "anime" is in the context of a Japanese speaking person saying it, since they use the word "anime" for all forms of 2D animation. But in that case, Adventure Time would also be an anime.

Once the hype for the movie dies down and some of the merchandise ends up on clearance shelves, SJWs will post pictures it Twitter and claim that it's because of white supremacy and somehow blame Trump for it.

You guys are cringey as fuck with these conspiracy theories.

This is the type of stuff that SJWs do. They've already demanded that 25% of the profits go to black communities/causes and that any white people who worked on the movie should have their names removed from the credits.

It must suck to live your whole life in fear of what some very small group of people might do.

These are all SWEEPING generalizations...

some people in BLM believe black lives matter MORE, some people believe black lives matter TOO

some people in all lives matter believe all lives matter equally, some people believe black lives less so

blue lives matter, I haven't paid attention to, so I cannot comment. But I am willing to bet it's just another sweeping generalization you decided to come up with on the spot.

Way to generalize 3 different groups while at the same time making one group look "good" while the rest look "bad."

It's no more a generalization than what you're saying. Whether some people have acted like clowns about it or not, BLM stands for being against unjust police brutality against black people. If you're against it because of a few clowns, and need to invalidate it with ALM, then "Black lives matter less" is certainly how it feels.

And let's not be disingenuous, ALM started waaay before BLM ever started doing any stupid shit. People saw that people were saying BLM, and thought it was witty to say ALM because they were insecure. They essentially interpreted "White lives don't matter" from "Black lives matter."

If my dog got injured and is in the hospital, and I say "I hope my dog gets better" why would you tell me "you mean, you hope all dogs get better?" You basically just undermined my statement with a one that's completely irrelevant.

Why can't a black movie or tv show or album ever just be legitimately good? Why does it always have to be pandering?

Because insecurity.

If you wanna talk insecurity, why is it that any black movie is immune from criticism? Why is it that if someone says the new X-Men movie didn't live up to the hype, the response is just "oh well, different opinions"? But if someone says Black Panther didn't live up to the hype, the response is to accuse them of being a white supremacist or a neo nazi?

This is the thing that bugs me. Give me widespread proof of this.

This is a really extreme opinion, but not a single person is ever able to back it up.

To be fair, I don't think it'd actually be hard to find people making that claim. It's going to be from Salon, or Jezebel, or from a verified twitter account, but I'm sure its up there. Most people wouldn't consider that a legitimate source, but if its at a point where a fairly large publication is writing about it, you can at least make the claim it's not as extreme as you'd think.

I mean... it wasn't that long ago you legit had articles claiming any negative criticism of Ghostbusters is sexism. These things really happen.

I'm not saying that these things don't ever happen, but the previous poster is making a claim specifically about Black Panther, one that I have yet to find any substantial evidence backing. I'm even having a difficult time finding YouTube/Twitter comments similar to that.

Ghostbusters and Black Panther are two completely different movies in two completely different situations. I wouldn't use Ghostbuster's situation to justify what you think is a widespread view in regards to any criticisms about Black Panther or black movies. He's reacting to something that hasn't happened yet, which sums up any criticisms that people actually have about the movie as of now, because they haven't seen it.
