Different culture. There's a ton of pride, respect, and honor in Hockey that most people don't know about. On top of that it's a far more physical sport than most and it's more ruthless in its rivalries (aside from soccer obviously).

No ones getting in brawls or breaking sticks in most sports. I assure you that the hockey community absolutely comdemns and mocks these things, hell you can see Shaw (the player) was ejected for it himself. That said, things like this happen more because there's a different level of intensity that can't be comprehended if you don't play.

Not in an elitist way. In a way of "if you've never been going 20+ miles an hour only to be blindsided by a truck then you don't understand that same level of having your head on a swivel." If that makes sense.

Still doesn't make it okay to give one player a pass and give another a lot of shit for having similar outbursts.
