They're talking about lack of fact checking, clickbait articles, political bubbles, all things for which the left is famous. I can't even count the number of times I had to correct people about what the wage gap really means, that the Dow Jones is not the economy, that racism is bad, or pretty much anything that can be taught by reading a book or two.

I caught the Washington Post selectively editing the Facebook posts of that Portland buss stabber to falsely portray him as a white nationalist who hated Muslims based on alt-right ideology.

Okay so I read it.

1. That isn't a study. It's an observation.
2. What they are describing does seem true about extremist alt-right people, but also for extreme leftists.
3. We should all be concerned about how much bullshit is flowing through mainstream media.

I added the actual study since I realized the title was misleading

Without digging into it fully, I'm suspect of a study using Twitter users.

I mean, aside from the misleading media coverage and topic title, the study itself doesn't make any claims beyond the data. It describes social media aggregate data, that's all.

The problem, as I see it, is the aggregated data is worthless from the start. Social media sites, especially Twitter, will include bots, trolls, etc.

I mean, even if it includes bots and trolls, it still means that this type of media is preferentially flowing through these communities, meaning those who are not bots and trolls are still being exposed to it at an abnormally high rates.

It's a very descriptive study, they don't really infer much from the observations. Important to note that it's not really peer reviewed though.

I suppose I think it matters because if we notice a flow of propaganda, but it is mostly through bots, trolls, fake accounts, etc. then is it really a thing?

Kind of the whole, "If a tree falls in a forest and no one is around, does it make a sound?"

I agree to an extent, however, that seems to be an entirely different question than the one they were trying to address.

Because as the GOP has moved further right, so has the definition of moderate. The modern GOP denies climate change as a problem, it says even an expansion of background checks is an unconscionable infringement on the second amendment, and at a time of record inequality it has sought to slash taxes on the rich and programs for the poor. There's no virtue in hearing out both sides when one of the sides is wrong.

Now, this criticism of Republicans is not to praise Democrats, who largely suck. But it's ludicrous to pretend they suck equally.

The GOP is an absolute garbage party that loves talking fiscal responsibility while spending ridiculous amounts of money.

The tax cuts were the one good thing they've done along with cutting regulations. Now I'm coming from a very pro business stance because I believe getting people to work and increasing opportunities is the best way to increase wealth. We can have that discussion if you want, but to say "it's wrong because I disagree" is stupid.

I think they are wrong about climate change, but I also think the left is wrong about squeezing ridiculous regulations on business...I believe that most do nothing to help the problem and it's simply politicians grandstanding to their base.

Viewing the entire world and political landscape through intersectionality glasses is something else I feel will hurt in the long run. I am also wary of authoritarians on the right and left

We can see executive power growing at ridiculous rates each time we get a new commander in chief, regardless of party. So what is someone who wants liberty supposed to do other than call out both sides for their garbage?
