End of last week high jobs numbers caused speculation that the bond market would take a hit, and that led to the selloff. It's literally "the economy is doing so well that it could impact interest rates" causing a short term selloff of bonds. The dip should recover in a week or two at most.

EDIT: The problem is the people he appointed who are doing a good job are mostly out of the news, so it only SEEMS like every appointment is bad because all you hear about are bad appointments. The man had to pick a lot of people... the only way you'd honestly believe literally every single one is bad (or good) is if you're completely biased.

I don't know how that explains Mulvaney's rise to the head of the CFPB given that Mulvaney spent the past 10 years in elected office. Tom Price at HHS was another long-time politician. Ditto for Scott Pruitt.

I assume in many cases those are coming as recommendations from people he appointed, and he's just going with whatever they suggest. Given that he famously stated he planned to be "CEO in Chief" I think people underestimate the amount he delegates. Some of them may be "compromise appointments" where they recognize they're not going to get support from either base if they completely replace every politician. It's sort of like how the Academy Awards basically only nominate movies that will lead to more jobs for academy members.

Yeah, a lot Star Wars fans seem to have this weird idea that no one besides Ford can play Han. I actually saw a post once that said something to the effect of "Star Wars fans would prefer Harrison Ford play Han in the prequel and insist, through sheer stubbornness, that he looks 20." It was entirely accurate to all the reactions I'd seen.

Like, I doubt this movie will be absolutely amazing or anything, but it looks pretty good. And honestly I can see and hear plenty of Han in this guy.

That's because Han is a boring character with a generic backstory. Ford makes Han what he is through sheer force of charm.

I don't think it's that "Star Wars fans" insist that it has to be Ford because they're fanboys. I think it's that some people recognize that sometimes the actor makes the character and not the other way around.

I think Trump has trust issues, and when it comes time to assign someone to something he relies heavily on his existing network. He probably has much more faith in a guy he's worked with or made deals with in the past over a politician. Functionally speaking, it should be preferable to have, say, an investment banker handling investment banking then yet another lawyer or poli-sci major who didn't major in that area. Subject Matter Experts are ideally the people you want in charge of those decisions.

This is the thing, TC. Even if they don't have five now, I know they'll have five eventually. When you buy a Nintendo product, you're basically guaranteeing yourself a half dozen or more "system seller" first party titles that will just work perfectly out of the gate.

Nintendo will never have the most games, but you know exactly what you're going to get. If you like those games, or those genres, it's a sensible purchase. If you don't, then you're going to be confused as to why people who keep buying Nintendo products don't seem to give a shit that they're not getting the yearly CoD/AssCreed/Battlefield/etc FPS grind treadmill that the other consoles get.

They're not equivalent, though. One was written for internal use. The other was explicitly written for public consumption and is explicitly intended to "shape the narrative". The context and purpose of both memos is completely different.

It's a fair question. We had DAYS of interview after interview and tweets/clips of dems in congress losing their minds over this memo being released. Now we're being told "lol guys its nothing look at you losers act like it matters". That doesn't explain why they made such a big deal out of it. You would have to pretend the week prior to today was all just a massive act, or that everyone simultaneously forgot to actually read the memo and just decided to react to it as IF it had meaningful content.

The only way you get reactions like that are if they believe the content is meaningful. The only way the content is meaningful is if there's truth to it.
