Basically, she says he angrily pressured her into filming the car-driving scene herself, after she expressed concerns about safety and suggesting a stunt performer do it.

She did it anyway, and crashed, damaging her neck and knees. Here's a video of the incident:

This changed their relationship, needless to say..

Tarantino really will do anything for that shot he thinks is perfect. Fucked up still. Hope this doesn't ruin him though, he's a great director and I think he's in the same spot as a lot of the people that associated themselves with Harvey Weinstein. They all knew, they're all shitty for not saying anything.

Quentin came in my trailer and didnt like to hear no, like any director, she says. He was furious because Id cost them a lot of time. But I was scared. He said: I promise you the car is fine. Its a straight piece of road.

Quentin told her to 'hit 40 miles per hour or your hair wont blow the right way and Ill make you do it again. But that was a deathbox that I was in. The seat wasnt screwed down properly. It was a sand road and it was not a straight road.

In video footage shared by the Times, Uma can be seen driving down a winding road and then crash into a tree. The steering wheel was at my belly and my legs were jammed under me. I felt this searing pain and thought, Oh my God, Im never going to walk again.' When I came back from the hospital in a neck brace with my knees damaged and a large massive egg on my head and a concussion, I wanted to see the car and I was very upset. Quentin and I had an enormous fight, and I accused him of trying to kill me. And he was very angry at that, I guess understandably, because he didnt feel he had tried to kill me.

Uma says that it took her 15 years for her to obtain the footage and that Miramax tried to get her to sign a document releasing them of any consequences of my future pain and suffering" in exchange for the footage. She didn't sign it.

When they turned on me after the accident, I went from being a creative contributor and performer to being like a broken tool," Uma said.

Is this really surprising to anyone at all? Tarantino borderlines on Kubrick levels of obsession over his movies. I'd imagine he's pressured people over a lot of things and would do a lot more for his movies.

Not saying it's okay, just that it's not remotely surprising.

Interesting dialogue, great fight scenes, fantastic music, genuine cinematic experiences.

The guy's probably a shitty person but his movies are dope. It's fair to not like the violence but to reduce it to just that aspect is myopic.

This.

Why is Weinstein in "therapy" anyway? Considering the sheer number of accusations you would think he would have been arrested already and a court case would be underway.

I believe its just damage control. People get to think that Weinstein is receiving some kind of rehabilitation, which implies he is being held accountable and will eventually not be a danger.

Btw, I heard Bill Cosby has been doing stand-up comedy again. Maybe Weinstein should try that instead.

They fights look cool but its all about the gore and some of hollywoods most far fetched action. Idk know too many memorable lines from characters either. Idk I just think they're "ok" movies.

Seriously.

How outraged would people be over how Kubrick treated Shelley Duvall during the Shining today?

It IS a fucked up thing, but with people like them, I can easily see them doing it to perfect their art rather than just flat out sadism. And even though I like Uma Thurman, she could have still refused. She was the star of the movie. Would have pissed off Quentin of course, but at the same time...fuck that shit. It's not like she was going to get fired or anything over it.

It's a fucked up story and even though I adore Tarantino's work, he still comes across as a massive douchebag in general. Long before this. I just hope there isn't a big outrage over this, treating it like it's remotely close to Winestein or Spacey.

See I'd be a hypocrite if I agreed with your sentiments. In that famous scene of Django, Dicaprio accidentally cut his hand while in character but instinctively used gash as a prop to smear blood all over Kelly Washington's face. That scene was one of the most phenomenal moments I've ever seen in a movie.

Yeah but that scene wasnt sexual in nature nor was it part of the script, that was just him improvising in the moment.

Tarantino said Hey guys, how about instead of the actors doing this stuff, ill do it because reasons!

Really? Their just ultra violent movies he's tried to emulate from overseas movies. He's not some kind of genuis director, and I never saw 1 of his kill Billy movies because David carradine is trash.

Kill Bill and then Inglourious Basterds after that.

Also, after seeing his movies, it's apparent he has a massive foot fetish. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

He fled the country to be "in therapy" so I'm pretty sure this is just so he can avoid legal ramifications. He would be far from the first high profile film person to flee a country over allegations.

Actually, fake blood was used during that scene. The cut and subsequent blood was real in that particular shot but the blood he used to smear on Kelly's face was fake.

Another well-known instance is when it was his hands actually strangling (as in not a fake choking) Diane Kruger in Inglorious Basterds. Lesser known is when this came up during a Conan interview and Conan asked him why he would insist on doing that, to which Tarantino replied 'you mean apart from the sheer sexual satisfaction of it?'

It's a worst-kept secret that Tarantino's always been into some weird and possibly dark kinks; since I share a few of those kinks, I always felt a touch of kinship with him. Now that I know there's a angry and forceful side to his personality that has likely bled over into that aspect of his life and filmmaking, it definitely sours that sentiment.

Indeed. 'Willingly' probably wasn't the optimal word in my post; 'insists on' is more likely on the money. He's at least been pulling this stuff since MI2's crazy bike-joust, possibly earlier. And no matter how much training he's had personally, it's got to be a headache for each stunt team he works with to make absolutely sure that megastar Tom Cruise doesn't get maimed or killed onset.

I mean, I'd love to give the guy credit for having the cajones to do these stunts, but he probably just believes that the galactic overlords are beaming an impenetrable forcefield around him at all times.
