The film poked fun at various social issues, but it did it in entertaining ways without being aggressively preachy and militant.

He was in a privileged position with sport authorities covering for him. Under those conditions, he could have harmed more.

People probably did step forward earlier, but could have been silenced or dismissed with that kind of leverage.
There's a lot of Larry Nassars in the world shielded by convenient wealth and status. Good luck prosecuting them...

I don't see a big deal with Mrs. Incredible being a focal point in the sequel. The last one was basically Mr. Incredible's story that fledged out into a family-oriented feature.

Disney's a powerhouse in the industry. They want to make BIG money with this one because it's a highly anticipated sequel. Even if there's going to be some feminist-friendly themes running in the background of the movie, Disney's typically smart enough not to make the whole flick into one giant public service announcement on feminism.

ClockworkHare

Whenever someone requests the hardcore shit, it's not real rape they actually want.
They want a sexual play fantasy that's not even close to what actual traumatic rape is like.

Frankly, it's better these confused dumb asses get left hungry. This is not a safe fetish to indulge, particularly when a woman is involved as the recipient. Not only does it set up the other party for nasty "regret" accusations, it's also dangerous for a woman (or anybody really) to go around saying "I have a rape fetish".

Because eventually that kind of talk will attract a real rapist...

I know. We have a shit load of lgbt people who unfortunately have that fetish.
And sure enough, you hear later from the grapevine some of them got fucked up because they played with fire.

ClockworkHare

Yeah. It's not something I was usually proud of, but I didn't feel ashamed of every case either. A few times I felt fucking vindicated in messing around with what was about to break anyway, especially when the guy seeing me was undeniably being treated like shit by his other partner.

Of course I played around with guys cheating on other guys, but my count also included more than a few married dudes who were hitched to women. And if the wife was a complete bitch, I felt no guilt in giving her husband a good time.

Most of the guys were smart enough to keep the wife in the dark, but I had some crazy awkward close calls because a guy would introduce me to her out of convenience. I was introduced as the card buddy, coworker, helpful guy met on the train, tutor, or a fellow Super Bowl fan (the only thing I like about football is the tight ass uniforms). Things stayed cool when the guy would keep the secret, but sometimes the wife would push the wrong buttons and he would damn near out us right in front of her out of spite. I can tell you from experience that a woman hit by that revelation is a scary sight; she can turn into a damn beast out for blood. And I prefer to be away from ground zero when it happens. I wasn't always that lucky and I have two inconspicuous scars to remember.

However, there's always been lines I won't cross when being the side piece. I won't go through with it when I find out the partner being cheated on is a class act and a good person. I don't like seeing that happen and I've alerted them a few times even if it meant me getting burnt by the crossfire. I won't touch a friend's SO. And I never moved forward with a husband who had kids.

I've been trashy, but I ain't a landfill.

RE: Electrocution culture -- I don't think that's an accurate statement for this topic. Electrocution from lightning is extremely rare. Rape, sexual assault, and sexual harassment are notably prominent in the U.S. It is evident that we do have some sort of rape culture going on, but it's been normalized.

How can you possibly say those things are "normalized" when each of them are illegal and so abhorrent to the general public that a segment of the population will even condemn people accused of it absent any evidence or due process?

Because the pendulum swings both ways. #MeToo was birthed from it being so normalized.

Makes me wonder what will eventually cause the pendulum to swing back.

Otherwise the average cna makes minimum wage.

I wasn't the average CNA.

That's why I mentioned the importance of being social to network towards better wages...while still being a lowly CNA. If all you do is average work that basically anyone can do, of course you're not going to make more than minimum wage. There's hundreds of interchangeable aides who can already do that. Doing the bare minimum is not how you make more money as an aide. You have to think outside the box for that.

What CNA work has over burgerflipping, at least in the US, is opportunities to network into positions of higher pay while employed at particular facilities. When I say network into positions, I don't mean grinding away in college to get an advanced license. I mean being a CNA while bringing more skills to the table that most aides don't offer. And that's what I did.

To give you a hint of how I managed to pull that off, think restorative care. Even when I was a CNA, I was achieving better results with certain patients than the local physical therapists were. The patients liked me, I knew how to talk to them. The families and the facility admins knew it. There were people who would pay out the ass for effective rehabilitation of their loved ones who are "difficult to work with", even if it just meant me being there and chit chatting for a while. I had a gift and I applied it to make more money. And that wasn't overtime pay. It's why I almost became a full time physical therapist instead of an RN.

No, that's not an average outcome working as a CNA. My wage back then wasn't the point in my previous post anyway. The importance of having marketable social skills was, while learning how to edge into higher wage opportunities with just that entry level license. Can't do that if you're a klutz at conversation. Anyone like that is more or less doomed to make minimum wage because they're going to hear "no" much more often lmao.

It's a living. I was making over $25 per hour back when I was a full time CNA. It's possible to do it well into your senior years, particularly if you're gifted at it. And it's one of the industries that would be very difficult to replace with automation due to how random and specialized a lot of the duties can become. There's also a ton of integrated jobs that only require CNA experience and pay more if you want a change in the type of work you do.

However, it's still a good idea to eventually advance to something else through college. CNA can be back-busting work with a requirement of frequent social interaction with patients/residents who are uncooperative and spiteful. If you suck at socializing and talking your way around things...this is not a job path for you.

TopicWhy do some women pretend to be Christian to attract Christian guys?
ClockworkHare
01/17/18 3:22:43 AM

In the US there's a stereotype for attractive male Christians as straight-edge family man material. Basically Ned Flanders.

You'd be surprised how many women want that kind of man when they're looking for marriage and settling down. ESPECIALLY white women. The stereotype convinces them to seek eligible Christian men in hopes of a husband who won't stray, dodge marriage, or sit on his ass.
