Hes not wrong. People dont need guns to kill. Swords, knives, and hands do the job perfectly well.

But guns do WAY better. It's pretty rare that someone gets stabbed by someone 20 yards away. It's a but harder to get a car into a school and go classroom to classroom murdering people with it.

The "everything is a viable weapon as much as a gun" is absolutely silly and everyone knows it.
