IIRC, Lorithia just embraces the fact that her race are just Telethia and just wants to achieve immortality. Her reasons for being a villain are pretty bland, IMO. You get to see her one more time before the end of the game.

In actuality it activates via proximity and from what I remember it doesn't matter who you invite to the colony. It's found between Watchpoint Junction and Hope Farm. Just keep your eyes open there.

Protip: you need to play the game 3 times to get the full ending. Playthrough 2 has you going through the events of the first playthrough from a totally different perspective, and game 3 has you starting where game 1/2 end. It's not nearly as repetitive as you'd think, and the different perspectives are great. Plus most of the major plot revelations come at the middle/end of playthrough 2.

To put it in other terms, think of the credits as like...checkpoints in the story. Credits separate the story into three parts, though as you said the second playthrough is from a different character's perspective and offers different gameplay.
