Clearly not referring to legacy apps. There isn't much you can do with them until someone finally decides to decom them. I'm talking any new deployments. It doesn't have to be an all or nothing situation.

Can't disagree there. I don't agree that should be a reason for Linux GUI. There needs to be a shift away from GUI on Windows servers as well. The point and click Windows admin needs to adapt.

I was referring to CLI only Linux based servers, not your laptop. SSH into the servers from your laptop with whatever text editor you'd like.

Scripting and coding are two different things. Not sure what you're going on about. A Cloud formation template is literally a script to build something in AWS.

Linux guys don't like using a GUI anyway so why not keep it all CLI which saves money and resources?

A sysadmin that hates to script. You're going to be very limited in your career if you don't get over that hate. Infrastructure as code is the direction a lot of companies are moving towards. I'm currently working to get more experience deploying AWS Cloudformation templates using YAML files.

I'd say this is accurate for me. I feel like there's a lot of meh to slog through to get to the bright spots. Many people love the show though.

Exactly. Moxley's style of wrestling is safer long term than the high flyers. He might have more scars at the end of his career, but at least he'll be able to walk normally.

Yeah thumbtack spots tend to be real since there's little chance of long term injury.

Its fun but very annoying after 100s of battles.

I did that once when I had to leave for a few hours and couldn't get to a save point. I don't remember exactly what happened but it wiped out all the Earthbound saves when the console was turned off somehow.

Sounds like some power surge happened and messed with the console/battery within the game cart. Those consoles are simple and don't have a boot up/shutdown process so you can just cut power to them without issue generally.

Yeah biggest thing is if you decide to make the white gravy from scratch. That stuff takes forever to make right.

Red Baron still sells the little personal pan breakfast pizzas in the freezer section. They're just too small to be an actual meal.

Charlottesville is such a pain in the ass to get to. You either spend hours on remote roads or go through Richmond. No simple road directly from DC area.

If you're going through Richmond, you might as well stay. There's more to do here than Charlottesville.

Chakan: The Forever Man

This game always got me. The presentation looks amazing but the gameplay is janky and frustrating. Recently, someone developed a patch to adjust some of the gameplay mechanics and jank. Now it's the go to method of playing the game and makes it fun to play.

My advice is to continue to play, 0 is a great starting point and a great game as well. Unfortunately it sets the bar so high, that the later games in the series will struggle to meet some expectations.

This is why I like to warn people that there is a drop in quality/content from 0 to Kiwami 1 so prepare yourself for it. I started with K1, fell in love with it, and was blown away playing 0. K2 feels about on the level with 0. 3-5 are, as you said, remasters of PS3 games so expect PS3 quality while missing some of those QOL features you'd expect these days.

To your concern TC, yes each game is essentially: here's the same large detailed city(with a couple other cities tossed in here and there) with some of the same characters plaything through a serious crime story and a lot of wacky side stories. The charm comes from seeing the city evolve throughout each game and the gameplay loop is very satisfying. I'd recommend playing them all but since they are all so similar, it's easy to get burned out. Play 1 or 2 of the games, take a break, come back for more later.

Though my friend and I did that with N64 games we rented cause we didn't have a memory card. His little brother would try to race up to his room and turn off the game but my friend caught him in time and beat him down.

There a ton of wineries around Charlottesville where you can do wine tastings while enjoying the view of the mountains. Charlottesville will also have a lot of great restaurants around the university.

Not surprised you never beat it. It has 103 levels. A portion of them are side levels not part of the main route. They can either be shortcuts or add to the game.

It's one of the first games I got on the Genesis as a kid and played the hell out of it. Id use a Game Genie to get to the later levels and beat the final boss.

Get a pest control service to spray along the walls in your place.

It comes and goes in waves. I'm currently in the down wave of it. Will probably last a couple months while I focus on other things in my life. Then some game will come along that'll give me that spark again and I'll be back in it.

Basically how my company is.
I'm the same way regarding WFH. I'd always use my PTO cause I'd feel burnt out from being in the office/making the drive everyday. Now that I can take some mental breaks throughout the day to do chores or play videogames, I never feel that burn out. I actually struggle to take all my yearly PTO.

~10 Holidays
No sick days but I WFH with a chill boss. I can tell him I'm sick and I'll check my phone every few hours so I don't have to take a vacation day.
I do senior level IT engineering stuff in the US.

When you leave the company, you can cash out vacation days but not sick days. Also might have something to do with how they roll over at the end of each year. You might be able to roll over a few vacation days into the next year but none of your sick days.

I used to work private and its much worse. Gov is better because at least they take care of you and its a public service. Private is all about making profits and billable hours. They dont care about developing your skills or happiness. They work you harder with less benefits (and in my area its less pay too)

Private can be both better and worse. I've certainly see examples at previous jobs of the points you bring up. Takes a while to find a company in the private sector that doesn't do all that nonsense like the one I'm currently at. Our devs do the whole billable hours thing but I work in IT infrastructure so I don't have to do that thankfully. I just felt when I worked in gov't that I was punished for taking initiative. I was suppose to do the little bit of work assigned to me and nothing more. It wasn't my place to make suggestions that would improve process or security. That drove me crazy.

Yeah I just didn't like the vibe when I worked gov't. I was a contractor so we were looked down on by gov't employees. I saw tons of financial waste while at the same time so much red tape to approve budgets for necessary things. As you said, gov't employees barely had a workload for the week yet had to strictly keep their chair warm for 8 hours. There was so much red tape to fire someone that most managers didn't bother which created an environment of very lazy workers. Also as a gov't employee, they were unable to get promoted unless someone above them got promoted or retired no matter how well they performed their job.

Tell them you plan to come in 30 mins later so 9 instead of 8:30 for example. Then you get to sleep in an extra 10 mins.

Yeah I'm aware of boot camps to an extent but more from a programming language standpoint like python boot camp or java boot camp.

The big risk is that even if a job is lined up after the boot camp for you, your resume still looks terrible and so you're effectively forced to stay at that company because no one else will hire you. Some companies do it as a cheap way to get baseline competent tech support without having to pay nearly as much as they would to someone with a full degree, and knowing that the people who come in don't really have much room to complain about working conditions because they're not qualified to go anywhere else.

Oh wow I knew a lot of boot camps will "guarantee" you a job at the end by partnering with a company but I didn't consider the aspect of them being stuck at the company. That's kinda fucked.

42 weeks to finish, what salary can I realistically expect if I pull the trigger. Prior to this, I learned basic ass level python and that's it.

Wait so you pay $18k and you'll come out of the bootcamp with all those certs? The CompTIA exams are only a couple hundred dollars to take and you can watch Professor Messer's Youtube videos to study for them. That's what I did when I had to take the Security+ exam. Also Security+ is essentially A+ and Network+ combined. Probably better to do that with those CompTIA certs and get your foot in the door. Someone with no experience and a laundry list of certs might not look great on a resume. Someone with a lot of knowledge but no real world understanding of the tech. Those are the types that'll tell me to close ports on my web server that are open to the internet cause their vuln scanner told them so.

I loved the original Catherine. Definitely if you've never played it before.
