Is this one of those evil schools where all of the people that run it and all the staff deserve to be brutally slaughtered in the street? Or am I mixing it up with a different kind of school? It sounds like it's one of those but the article doesn't go into it.

It's just described as a 'school for troubled teens' which could be anything between an actual attempt at helping people vs a magic box far away for annoyed parents to ship their kid to 'fix' them. Before this got announced and I said SMRPG seems overrated considering its gameplay, people told me the art design and sprites made it a classic.

I find it a little more charming in retrospect, but when I first learned they used real products in Pikmin 2 it really put me off because I find the practice generally distasteful. Especially stuff for children.

But I swear I saw there was a drama about some mod host site banning mods that would revert the changes in the re-release to 'respect the dev vision'. Which seemed weird because the point of mods surely is to not do that, especially console mods.

I would suggest turning your approach on its head; create the emotional and personal background that has led either of these people to this position.

From your OP it sounds like your starting foundation is

• The world has been taken over
• The dictator has brainwash powers
• I, the author, think brainwashing people is bad
• How do I say this through the voice of a guy talking to the dictator?

We might take away a layer of abstraction here and just ask, "Is it bad to systematically prevent people from hurting each other?" Then there's a few ways that could be tackled. Are there unintended consequences that have resulted from this? Is there a time when doing something currently prevented would be good? Is there a flaw fundamental to how this prevention is guaranteed or enforced? Has this prevention changed the way we live in a manner more undesirable than its benefits?

Whichever of those points you might expand upon could make for a very interesting essay. But we still don't seem to have a story here. And it's very possible-- probable, really --that there is nothing a hero could say to such an antagonist who has gone so far to achieve their utopia/dystopia. I can think of an exception, the Superman Red Son comic, but that worked because Superman is fundamentally good but sometimes naive. You mentioned that somehow this situation benefits your villain's interests. Is your antagonist the kind of person who could be swayed by a 'perfect single sentence?' Only you can answer that, by characterizing them.

When I read your OP, I cannot tell if the antagonist is closer to M Bison from Street Fighter, or Takuto Maruki from Persona.

These are both beloved characters with an abstractly similar plot role, but otherwise could not be further apart from each other in terms of who they are or why they are appreciated.

Which of these do you imagine your antagonist to be closer to? When you have that answer, start writing why.
