most people making memes of the sub have never heard of the june 14 capsize. OceanGate memes are not a mass protest, that's projection. The capsize got an extensive rescue operation of its own and Greece issued a 3 day mourning period and suspended election campaigning. Rescuers saved 104 people. It just wasn't as unique and mechanically absurd a story as the submersible. Like do you really think people wouldn't have been talking about a lost submersible with hundreds of people inside if that was the situation?

If we're truly committed to 'not being intellectually lazy', then do we really find it compelling that there would not have been a meme fad about this were the submersible passengers middle class? The idea that schadenfreude from this absurd event must be the result of class war tension is projection.

People aren't doing a moral calculation to decide whether to engage in speculation and poking fun about an extraordinary event. News outlets did not mine this story because the suffering of billionaires is a guaranteed page turner for the frothing masses. This is how people act at distance. The human cost is easier to abstract and the humor can then be easily found.

I've had a lot of probelms with the d-pad. It's hard to hit corner inputs while doing a motion quickly, or in general. Nothing worse than thinking I'm crouch back and I get hit by a low because the controller says I'm holding down.

Also since your left thumb is so far up and the dpad is finnicky, I find it really troubling using L1 as a HK button.

I have my ear to the ground for a cheap controller with a 'god dpad'. Some people have recommended the 8bitdo Genesis controller but that thing's flat as a board and only has 2 shoulder buttons with a C and Z for the right thumb.

I doubt we know he was "pressured", he could've very easily tagged along with his dad to do a nice thing for him.

Obra Dinn is alright, the structure means there's a lack of a satisfying narrative structure though, and there were a couple ambiguous definitions or scenes that drove me up the wall. A very similar concept game that I prefer is The Case of the Golden Idol. Never played Forgotten City.

Someone in late teens / early twenties is an adult or a child exactly when it's convenient to one person or another's narrative.

It's a good game. I had a few complaints about the writing and design decisions the game, but the sheer uniqueness and commitment to the experience it creates compared to 99.9% of the market makes it worthy play for that alone.

IDK how I feel about the identity of the thread-puller. Based on all the relationships and personalities in the game it was hard for the truth to be particularly scandalous or electrifying. The existence of the undergroundd tunnel system leading between the abbey, convent and meadow allowed anyone to be the thread-puller. The identity was neither a surprise or obvious. I think that's fine, but it means that overall the third act is falling action and act 2 is the climax. For that, act 3 can feel slow, especially since Magdalene is interviewing the whole town partly about things we already experienced or learned about as Andreas.

It's kinda weird how this game treats the conclusion of investigations. It seems that there are no "true" solutions the murders. Whoever you condemn becomes the true killer. Or at least, everyone in the game accepts that, and the idea you might discover you were wrong later is not explored. Of course, everyone was being manipulated by the thread-puller, but I still find the 'floating' nature of the culprits to be surprising and a little jarring. That's part of why I may have been a little underwhelmed by act 3. I had a feeling that a scripture-like judgment day was coming where every true culprit(s) was revealed. I don't think the actual conclusion is bad, just a little slow for what it delivers. I like the focus on Andreas' crises of purpose and that angle of the character writing.

The internet and 'meme culture' makes it really easy to separate the reality of a situation from morbid fascination and comedic absurdity.

A lot of attempts at socioeconomic explanations etc just don't ring true to me. Sure, people may say "they're rich who cares" when someone presses them that their online posting behavior is immoral or exploitative. But that doesn't mean they began engaging in that behavior after a moral calculation. Rather, the internet encables a group complicity where you never need to consider the moral dimension in the first place. Appeals in defense of the behavior's morality are just ad hoc, and only exist because someone demanded justification.

That game was great

The game is fun the story is 5 threads attempted to be sewn into a blanket. The character concepts were good but nobody actually gets time to develop. The way hat kid becomes the law hero all of a sudden was rightfully memed. Game can't decide if it's a sequel to Nocturne. There's like two dungeons and they're both duct taped together. Etc. I'm not breaking the mold here this was generally the reception of the game in the community.

There's a leak/rumor from an allegedly reputable guy of an SMTV 'complete edition' where they indicated Stephen is part of the plot like SMTIV Apocalypse
