I think more people have come to realize movie critics poorly represent the general audience. Seeing a huge divergence on RT or IMDb is pretty common and no one really minds anymore. Games for some reason aren't there yet and critics are seen as a proxy for consumer opinion.

In Europe you have pro-Russia political parties in power in two countries now. In America the pro-Russia portion of the GOP had got enough influence to stop aid to Ukraine. So as more people become useful idiots for Putin it will become harder to sustain support for Ukraine in the West. Atrocities and civilians dying isn't unique to Ukraine and is easily ignored in many other countries, so care for Ukraine is dependent on Western media to convince people to care. Since a portion of that media is pro-Russia it become hard to maintain that support.

He's referring to the Japanese text. FF used to have really inconsistent translations and a lot of names changed often so the Japanese text is the best source for stuff like that.

If we're bringing up gods I think Thor versus Tor is interesting. Thor is more historically correct, but many modern Nordic languages say Tor. In Japan the god is called Tor but the Marvel character is Thor .

You're confusing a strip club with a hostess bar/kyabakura. They both exist and aren't the same thing. Every kind of prostitution related service exists and is legal for the most part (penis in vagina sex is technically not, but you can loophole it).

Japan was one, most places take card and/or electronic payment now. I think the most consistently cash only places are Indian restaurants for some reason.

"Japan" literally originated as a mispronounciation of Cipangu though, which was already a fairly inconsiderate name considering that's not what the Japanese called themselves at the time. It's a mispronounciation that's become normalized.

Nippon and Nihon are mispronunciations of the Chinese name. It's really not a big deal. No one in Japan finds the name Japan inconsiderate, we use the name all the time. International teams are called Team Japan, even in Japanese.

Japan is just an English language name for Japan, it's used in Japan too. We sometimes call America Beikoku (actually that's the formal name on government forms), it's not a mispronunciation, just another name for it. Japan pretty much exclusively uses foreign created names for Japan (Nihon/Nippon comes from Chinese, as does Wa). Yamato is the only actual Japanese name for Japan.

I never new it was explicitly a remake, I assumed it was more just a rip off relying on the fact an older King novel would be obscure enough in Japan to pass under the radar.

Author acknowledges it right in the book.

I legit don't understand what people like about Shiki. It started ok, but was just boring. I figure it's one of those "the manga's better" anime. Haven't seen Corpse Party or Higurashi.

Shiki is actually a Japanese remake of Salem's Lot. The book says it explicitly but the anime still has that feeling. It's kind of cool to see a Stephen King book turned into an anime with a setting change.

For a big production they sometimes do. I have actually gone to panels with American VAs. They often just get a pile of lines to read with sometimes vague notes. Steve Blum, one of the better actors, said he had never even seen Cowboy Bebop and didn't actually know what it was about.

Very different types of anime. I don't think I would say either are horror. People definitely like both, but one is more like a Shonen adventure with a lot of creepy loli stuff, gore, and a bleak world and the other is more a standard Shonen.

I'm just saying people beg for dubs, then bitch about the dubs. You can hear Cait Sith or a Japanese name pronounced correctly on the Japanese audio. I know Persona 5 has it and FFVII will as well. Dubs are never going to be high quality because the industry in America is built around doing everything as cheap as possible. Voice acting isn't taken seriously. You will never have people recording lines together, doing multiple takes with a director in the room making sure everything is perfect, with actors who studied the character and are trying to portray everything as well as they can. You will get a guy reading lines in a box who could give less of a shit because he isn't being paid shit or given any direction and probably hasn't even met the other cast members.

When I used to live in America people liked subs and original voices in games. Or at least it felt that way. Now I swear everyone is constantly wanting dubs and refusing to buy or watch anything that doesn't have them. Then they bitch about how shitty they are. Yeah you pay people the bare minimum to record lines alone in a box and it's not going to compete with pros in a room actually acting together. That the script and pronunciation also gets the bare minimum should be no surprise.

I think pretty much all the demons in the SMT/Persona games are pronounced as they should be.

I am told the English dub of Persona 5 pronounces it as "Kate Sith" like they're doing for FFVII. I don't have an English copy, so someone else will have to confirm.

The manga is loosely based on Astro Boy. It's a rather short series and really good in my opinion.

It does have Japanese text option (along with English and Chinese) and it only has Japanese as a voice option, but the developers are Malaysian.

It's a non-uniform statistic. A smart American might have a high IQ in America because their tests are designed around their metrics, but give them a test from Spain or Norway, and watch how quickly they are shuffled off to the Special Ed classes.

That's not how the tests work, and the American average IQ is lower than those in Spain or Norway. Actually despite the tests being developed in the West, East Asians have the highest average on them.

What a weird fucking question. Have you ever put your luggage in one side and got in the other? I would assume so. This is no different than that. The real question is how did the driver not notice he hadn't picked up the item he clearly set in the back of his car before taking off.

Interesting. Maybe something like a Steam Deck (or cheap 3rd party equivalent) would be a good investment since you can easily take it to wherever you have WiFi.

SMT If was a prototype in some ways for Persona 1. Then again talking about the Persona games before 3 is like talking about Fight Club.

Maybe if people didn't actually play them. Persona 1 is a good dungeon crawler and the Persona 2 duology is among the best in the series.

I love SMT 1 and 2, especially the PlayStation ports. If you like DRPGs (games like Wizardry, first person dungeon crawlers) then they're great. The peak for first person dungeon crawling in the series is Soul Hackers and Strange Journey, but these are still great games, with fun dungeons and interesting stories.

Alright I listened to the stuff posted and I think you guys are drunk on nostalgia. Maybe I have nostalgia for the original Japanese score, but this stuff just sounds so out of place.

I can't imagine Halo having anything other than a WW2 style wartime economy where the entirety of society revolves around supporting the war effort. It might be some kind of state capitalism, but there has to be a degree of central planning with corporations subservient to the government because of the scale and stakes of the conflict humanity is engaged in.
