That's quite a hyperbolic take. Lyft is a service platform that employs thousands of drivers. The company won't have the throughput to investigate and solve every issue between the interactions of drivers and their passengers, especially if one driver is negligent and/or vindictive enough to toss a cat out at the outskirts of a town. There's no way for the company to guarantee the safety of a lost cat.

It's a living creature. They should be moving heaven and earth to find and secure the safety of the animal.

Surprisingly good start from the police (but only after they got press-ganged into it...)

I honestly didn't expect a Lyft search party. That's moving the needle, barely, in a good direction.

What a weird fucking question. Have you ever put your luggage in one side and got in the other? I would assume so. This is no different than that. The real question is how did the driver not notice he hadn't picked up the item he clearly set in the back of his car before taking off.

Never thought the driver would've taken off but did. Not his fault for trusting the driver and sad sometimes you can't. Nothing wrong with learning from this but apparently its label as victim blaming.

Lyft is refusing to leak the passenger list of that driver. In the chance someone else took the cat out of the car, the passenger list needs to be known. Until Lyft helps I will continue to say they don't deserve to exist

The driver's story doesn't add up at all.

He's startled by the cat (which he is supposedly allergic to) and just drives off, completely ignoring the fact that the animal is still in the vehicle with him? And then continues to drive away when his passenger knocks on the vehicle? Isn't that a universal sign for 'hey I forgot something'?

Such a weird story. Reminds me of the time someone swiped our family's fish while waiting for the hotel valet. Takes a special kind of scumbag to steal someone's pet. I hope the police are able to find the cat.

They didn't offer $20. The automated support bot offered $20. Once he got in contact with an actual human at Lyft he got a much better offer.

Lyft is now asking for people in that city to look for the cat. They finally realized they are risking a public relations nightmare. But they fucking delayed rescue of the cat maybe. They should have cooperated yesterday.

Also I saw this

Theory that the driver thought the cat carrier was a bag of valuable stuff to steal, and drove off on purpose to sell it. But then saw it was a cat

Driver absolutely dumped the cat, will never admit it, and the case will dry up. Possibly killed it outright, depending on how sick he is.

I dont care how "cooperative" he's being. The driver's fucking lying through hos teeth. The dude ignored all texts and calls until, conveniently, enough time had passed to sell "plausible" deniability. I put that word in quotes because, if he was allergic to cats and was startled by it, there's no way in hell he just... magically didn't know it was in his car until some random next passenger conveniently walked off with it, without a word.

I mean for fucks sake, we're expected to believe a lyft passenger spies a cat in a carrier in the seat next to them, and doesn't so much as comment in it before just... walking away with it?

Assuming the cat was just totally silent during its ride, too. Very few are.

Fuck this guy. Pet murdering, psychopathic asswipe. There's a special place in hell for people who do this shit to animals.

Hopefully the cat was microchipped and get picked up by someone who gets him checked.

it's possible the cat can't or couldn't mewing, he was going to the vet so he might have an issue or maybe it was just a routine thing
although even if the cat didn't meowed shouldn't the driver have noticed the cat was there due to his allergy to cats? making sure the guy took the cat with him should have been the driver first priority when they reach their destination

because if it was the driver that stole the cat then he's seriously dumb he could have delivered the cat to Lyft,if he didn't know who the cat belonged too instead of making it worse by leaving the poor cat on the side of the road, that's just being a POS

This is very similar to something that happened recently where a woman was robbed at gunpoint and the piece of shit thief stole her car with her pet lizard inside.
In fact, this story made me want to look up how that whole thing was going. Fortunately, the lizard was found and they've been happily reunited, thank goodness.

I good lawyer can prove the driver was trying to steal the cat.

Also the whole animal abuse angle. Remember that Trump signed a bill in 2019 making animal abuse a federal crime. (Maybe the only good thing he did? )
