The Midnight Meat Train, Train to Busan, Demon Slayer, Horror Express, & Snowpiercer. Hard to pick one! The Taking of Pelham 123 is a good one too.

It's definitely a shame Finding Nemo didn't make it, still one of the most creative front-to-back animated movies of all time.

Critic does kind of suck nowadays, but back in the late 00s watching him weekly was one of my favorite things to look forward to. I watched those early episodes a ton. One of my inspirations to start writing and critiquing things for myself too.

To me, Sherlock Holmes has one of the most identifiable silhouettes with his deerhunter hat, pipe, and trenchcoat.

I would give James Bond a mention, as well as anyone from the Wizard of Oz. Romeo & Juliet are still used as the quintessential star-crossed lovers couple to this day. Godzilla, Batman & Joker are all probably top tier as well. It's difficult to say who's the most famous.

You would need to write a book to fully describe this game's sheer amount of creativity, themes, influences & more. Isosteric, existential, and full of pure humanity, KRZ is one full package that I think pushes video game narrative to its limit.

Resident Evil 6 mercenaries actually made RE4 / RE5 mercs seem really slow in comparison. I still like them but the movement in RE6 Mercs is just too much fun.

Same thing with DMC5 Bloody Palace. I just love the speed, movesets, and animations of that game and it makes DMC3's and 4's feel almost a little outdated.

The idea of a remake that expects you to have already played and know the original like the back of your hand is a bold one. In this regard, FF7R offers up a strange brew of nostalgic revisitation & strict reverence, fan-fic what ifs, modern day video game storytelling methods, and expansions to the original that genuinely work better and hit harder. All the beats are here - Cloud joining Avalanche, falling through Aerith's church, storming SHINRA headquarters. For 75% of the time, FF7 plays out just like you remember it, but slicker, more polished, the character's lively dialogue portrayed even better in pumped-up cutscenes and high-fidelity animation, bringing the world and population of Midgar to breathtaking heights. The expansion of Avalanche's supporting members - Jessie, Biggs, Wedge - are some of the most compelling moments of the story, and it makes sense to have these expanded moments being that FF7R doesn't even encompass the whole of disc 1 of the original. It's what a remake should do - expand, expound, fill in the gaps you couldn't do on the original hardware. It's what makes the functionality of the ghosts and the shoehorned nature of Sephiroth feel like such a chickenshit move. It's that very same reverence to the original's beats coming back to bite it on its ass. It's an admission of defeat - oh, you can't remake part 1 of the original without including its arguably most famous character; oh, you can't remake part 1 of the original if you're going to change any deaths. It ends up having the ironic effect of making FF7R feel so far removed from its original counterpart that it may as well not even bother bearing the name. And yet, the game will then do something so touching as to show the total devastation of a plate being crushed on a whole population, making you feel more in touch with what you're fighting for and how it effects the characters, and it's so far beyond what the original ever even attempted, and I love it and hate it at the same because the whole remake could've did stuff like this instead of being so damn wishy-washy all the time. There's fantastic stuff here, and there's terrible stuff, but at the core you can still see the FF7 that is and was, and it's probably one of the hardest games to rank story wise for that reason.

Asylum is one of the best games ever made and the other two are amazing too.

The climax of 3 seals the deal for me. 2 is fantastic as well but the guardians do get a tad bit annoying at the end. 1 is actually a pretty bad game if you ask me and has not aged well, in the Collection or otherwise.

Maybe the most brutally honest and realistic depiction of day-to-day life, mental health, ennui, and anxiety I've ever seen in any form of media? It captures a feeling much like Silent Hill 2 does - it forces the player to reckon with themselves through the lens of Mae and thoroughly examines and tests the player's own life experiences and cyclical lives. At least, it did for me. It's uncomfortable at many points, offering many perspectives of its own. The tough life of Bea, the happy-go-lucky nature of Gregg, even Possum Spring's economic troubles basically acting as a metaphor for the whole cast in general, depicting a sense of simplicity and innocence slowly but surely rusting away just as the characters struggle to find their place in the world and move away from the roots of their childhood. Yet, it never loses focus on Mae either, her struggles with depersonalization, coming back to her hometown, dropping out of college, feeling purposeless, lacking a job, it's just this whole toxic swirl of troubles that can be so hard to face up to but must be faced up to nevertheless. The Lovecraftian entity at the bottom of the town would be an easy thing to pin your troubles on - and yet, through the game's use of routine (get up, travel through town, hang out, go back home), it's treated just like another thing on a checklist of things that's as mundane and troublesome as anything else Mae or the cast is going through. It's that want in life to have something weird or fantastical happen to you - to want that snap out of the puppet's strings we can feel so attached to - but really, it's just an excuse to ignore the root of your problems. It's such a genius way to portray horror, because in a sense, the horror of the mundane is way worse than anything supernatural or demonic that could come your way. We look for meaning everywhere in life - whether it be through jobs or some strange cult-like activities, but the game's true commentary is in its charm & humor - doing crimes with Gregg, helping Bae and brightening up her mood here and there, that cozy wordless feeling of watching a late-night program with your Dad - Night in the Woods is saying there's some good in routine too and some of your happiest moments can come from it - if only for fleeting glimpses, but there nonetheless. The way Night in the Woods captures all sides of the human experience, and manages to do it through anthropomorphic animals no less, is an achievement in gaming and media in general, to me.
