Breath of the Wild is probably too strong to lose to a non-Nintendo game in the overall GotY even if Super Mario Odyssey somehow makes it to the overall GotY poll. Even then, we'll have a final GotY poll that will take Mario out of the picture completely.

We did just see Allen put both Uncharted 4 and FFXV in the 2016 overall GotY poll even though Uncharted 4 finished second place in the PS4 GotY poll, so I wouldn't rule out the possibility of this happening for the two big Switch games this year.

Today's poll is quite interesting because the top 2 games winning this poll are games where no information about the games were revealed, other than the fact both are currently in development. I think that speaks to the franchise power of these 2 games.

Pokemon as a franchise is stronger than Metroid. At least I'd pick Pokemon over Metroid today, a reversal of the 2006 Series Contest match.

Metroid Prime 4 is only winning this poll based on hype, and also the fact that there hasn't been a good Metroid game since Metroid Prime 3 in 2007. Pokemon has had several mainline games since 2007, so there isn't as much hype for a Switch mainline game. The Switch mainline game will have the advantage of being on a console for the first time, which could be just the extra push it needs to win GotY on this site. If Metroid Prime 4 comes out in the same year as Pokemon for Switch, it'll be a lot harder for Pokemon to win GotY on the site.

The poll ran for a total of 12 hours, 30 minutes until being closed manually at 12:30 PM EST. Since this poll ended at 12:30 PM, there was no ASV or SNV in the trend charts. The vote totals from this poll suggest this poll would have gotten about 11500 votes in a normal 24 hour poll.

"D - Bad" had its best hour of the poll during the Power Hour. Other than the Power Hour and the hour that had the Nintendo presentation, there isn't really any notable trends here.

The effect of the Nintendo presentation on the trends is a bit odd. "B - Good job" and "F - Terrible" both had their best hour of the poll during the Nintendo presentation, while "A - Outstanding" and "D - Bad" had their worst hour during this time.

This poll started at 12:30 PM EST and ran for 11 hours, 30 minutes. The vote totals in this poll suggest this poll would have gotten about 12000 votes in a normal 24 hour poll. For the trend charts, the Power Hour runs from 12:30 PM to 1:30 PM. DSV runs from 1:30 PM to 2:30 PM, while there's no change in how the ASV and SNV are handled like they normally would be.

The only real trend in this poll was the board vote, where "C - Okay" and "F - Awful" performed best, while "A - Outstanding" and "B - Pretty good" performed worst during that time period. After the Nintendo presentation, the Treehouse Live stream started off showing Super Mario Odyssey (which was the last game shown in the Nintendo presentation) and people might have stuck around and continued watching the stream to see more Super Mario Odyssey after the Nintendo presentation was already over with. That theory makes sense since there was a spike in vote totals after 12:50 PM, around the time that Treehouse Live stopped showing gameplay from Super Mario Odyssey to take a break for several minutes.

Other than the early vote, there weren't really any other noticeable trends for the rest of the poll.

Finally got done with poll updates and trend charts for the past 4 polls.

Poll updates and trend charts from the day of Microsoft's press conference:

This one turned out to be a normal 24 hour poll, since Allen chose to not put up a new poll after Microsoft's press conference ended. But we did get to see some interesting trends here. The Microsoft press conference did cause a slight drop off in vote totals while the press conference was in progress, but it had a far smaller impact than we've normally seen in the past. This can be blamed on people being less interested in Microsoft these days. Hell, even Bethesda's press conference gets more hype on this site than Microsoft even though it's not part of the big three.

"Yes, an Xbox One" had fairly stable trends for most of the poll. After Microsoft's press conference ended, there is a very clear increase in performance for "Yes, an Xbox One". I thought this trend change was very notable because it shows people were more impressed by Microsoft's press conference than the next poll would actually suggest. This trend change represents a new type of trends called "situational trends", in which poll trends are strongly influenced by specific events such as a press conference or a Super Bowl game. We already have Geolocation trends, Age based trends, and Time based trends, but none of those actually apply to the trend changes seen in this poll.

"Yes, a PlayStation 4" had its trends affected by the press conference as it dropped off rather hard while the press conference was in progress and even had some terrible hours after the press conference ended.

"No, not convincing me" was overall fairly consistent throughout the day. It did perform better during the Microsoft press conference, but it wasn't a huge spike or anything.

The poll started at the same time that Bethesda's press conference began, so we got terrible vote totals at the start of the poll. There was a noticeable spike in vote totals after the 12:40 AM update, which was around the time the Bethesda press conference ended. When the press conference ended, this affected the trends. "D - Bad" and "F - Terrible" both dropped off in percentage after the press conference ended, while "B - Good job" and "C - Okay" both went up in percentage. This trend change suggests the viewership of Bethesda's press conference favors Microsoft more than Sony.

Sony's press conference during this poll had a far more noticeable impact on vote totals while the press conference was in progress, showing us that people care a lot more about Sony's press conference than Microsoft's in the current era of GameFAQs where Microsoft is a lot more hated now. The effect of the Sony press conference on trends was somewhat unexpected, with "D - Bad" and "F- Terrible" performing better during the press conference while "B - Good job" and "C - Okay" dropped off here. Usually, it would be the opposite as the Sony people are more likely to hate Microsoft and they're busy watching the Sony press conference.

SSB4 Deluxe is a great idea and would introduce the game to people who never played the Wii U version. The game turned out to be not as strong in the Games Contest as you might expect considering it's even more well-liked than Brawl, so it's nice to see the game won't be shackled anymore by being limited to Wii U (and the inferior 3DS version).

Most of the press conferences up to this point have been somewhat disappointing, other than a better than expected showing from Ubisoft and Microsoft. Microsoft's somewhat good showing this year is mostly a moot point when most of the site isn't even on board with the Xbox One yet. While Sony looked rather disappointing this year. Nintendo is the last line of defense to salvage E3 this year. With the launch of the Switch earlier this year, Nintendo will look to bring in solid reinforcements to maintain the Switch's momentum after the system launched with much better than expected sales figures. The future of the next several months for Nintendo should not be based solely on the Nintendo Spotlight presentation, as more information about upcoming games may be revealed during the Treehouse Live streams.

Treehouse Live on Day 1 will start immediately after the Nintendo Spotlight presentation, while Day 2 and Day 3 of Treehouse Live begins at 1:00 PM EST / 10:00 AM PST on June 14th/15th. Let's get the hype rolling for Nintendo.

Just watched it, weak show. Transience is spot on. They announced too much too quickly now they're paying the price.

Sounds like a hangover effect to me. When you go all out in the E3 press conference from the previous year, there appears to be a hangover next year as you've exhausted some of the games which could have been held off for another year before being announced.

Depends on whether the next contest is a Games Contest or a Character Battle. I think the game will be too old by the time we have another contest for the game or the characters to get rallied. Even then, it's all dependent on the game being the source of many memes and jokes on places like Tumblr to have any rally potential.

i have to agree on that. MS def was the superior show. here they were practically begging you to get the PS4 Pro and giving you graphics guide for dummies, which was just weird. MS gave you a top notch system and lowered the price of their current one.

also MH Remake isn't exclusive, it'll be on XBone and PC. so it was cool but nothing unique there.

I bet this site somehow thinks Sony was somehow better than Microsoft's press conference despite the rather poor showing by Sony, all because the site still hates Microsoft from their Xbox One disaster in 2013.

Looks like Allen's already set up the Sony poll for June 13th based on this:

However, knowing Allen, he'll manually start that poll within 5 minutes of Sony's press conference coming to an end rather than waiting until 12:00 AM EST. So the poll start time will fall somewhere between 10:20 PM and 10:50 PM.
