Since the Alolan Forms were removed, all of the main Gen VII Pokemon had their scores adjusted downwards since there's only 81 Pokemon remaining instead of 99. Using my own list as an example, I had Bruxish ranked 99th overall, but it becomes my 81st overall after the removal of the Alolan Forms.

The scores for the main Gen VII Pokemon were recalculated by removing the Alolan Forms from everybody's lists and then renumbering the existing Pokemon from 81 to 1, preserving the relative placement of all the Gen VII Pokemon among each other on everybody's lists. I was a bit surprised with the way the new list turned out. I had to double check everybody's lists to make sure I didn't make any mistakes in recalculating the scores for the main Gen VII Pokemon.

In the overall rankings with the Alolan Forms, I thought the relative placement of the main Gen VII Pokemon among each other wouldn't change at all when the Alolan Forms were removed and scores recalculated for the Pokemon that still remain. One example of a change was Rowlet and Lycanroc switching places with each other. This new list had just one tie and the spreadsheet chose to rank Drampa higher than Dhelmise, which is fine by me since Drampa finished higher than Dhelmise in the overall rankings.

For the first time since the 4/6/2010 poll, iPhone ownership has actually gone down in relation to the previous "Smartphone" poll. iPhone ownership managed to increase its ownership in 15 consecutive polls, even though it was easily the underdog to the Android over the course of those polls.

The first time we ever got a read on the Android's ownership was a poll from 4/17/2011. Since that poll, the Android's ownership has increased in every single poll (a total of 12 polls) after that first poll. There's probably an upper limit to how much higher the Android can increase its ownership as I don't expect it to eat into the iPhone's ownership. Any increase in the Android's ownership will come from sucking the life out of the Windows Phone option, "other smartphone" option, and the non-smartphone option. There's probably still room for the non-smartphone option to decrease even farther, but I think there will always be a very small percentage of extreme traditionalists that will refuse to embrace the future and give up their non-smartphone to join the smartphone crowd.

Among the major last generation consoles, the PS3 has had the least decline in ownership relative to its highest recorded ownership, while the Xbox 360 had the most severe decline. The Wii falls somewhere in the middle between the Xbox 360 and PS3 in terms of its ownership loss relative to its highest recorded ownership.

Wii U's ownership declined very slightly. It's also the first Wii U ownership poll since the 7/9/2016 poll, as there wasn't a Wii U poll at the end of 2016 to see whether the Wii U would have broken 50% ownership. But looking at the results of yesterday's Wii U poll, it seems obvious the Wii U wouldn't have broken 50% ownership. Yesterday's Wii U poll is also interesting to see what percentage of the site either the Wii U or Switch alone, or both systems. The big surprise has to be more than half of Wii U owners not getting on board with the Switch yet. After all, the people who bought a Wii U are probably diehard Nintendo fans, the type who would be extremely likely to buy a Switch. The percentage of people who have a Switch, but not a Wii U isn't really a surprise here since people who didn't buy a Wii U are probably a lot more skeptical of Nintendo as a whole and want to see a larger library of games for the Switch before they get on board with the system.

The ownership spreadsheet has been updated with the latest poll results:

Yes, that's right, make the adjustment, Luster.

After applying the adjustment I suggested earlier, this ends up creating 3 new ties in the overall results. The following Pokemon are now tied in the overall results:

Jangmo-o and Golem-A
Dartrix and Drampa
Kartana and Popplio

Those 3 sets of Pokemon finished 1 point apart with swirldude's incorrect list and now they're tied as a result of the adjustment.

I'm wondering what tiebreaker Steiner used in the event of a tie, as was the case with Sandygast/Grubbin and Exeggutor-A/Oricorio

I downloaded Steiner's Google Doc spreadsheet to my computer so I can go through with the process of calculating the overall results for the main Gen VII Pokemon along with the score they would have gotten if we had only ranked those Pokemon.

While I was going through the lists and removing the Alolan Forms, I noticed swirldude's list does not have a Pokemon ranked at 34th overall. Instead, swirldude has 2 Pokemon that are both ranked 23rd on his list (Sandslash-A and Marowak-A). If this mistake was to be corrected, I guess we'll need to consult swirldude to figure out which one of those Pokemon would have been ranked 24th, and then adjust the rest of the list accordingly.

Looking at where swirldude ranked Sandshrew-A (95th on his list), I'd lean towards Marowak-A being the intended 23rd overall on his list and Sandslash-A being 24th overall. This is probably the adjustment I'd make to correct the mistake with 2 Pokemon at 23rd and no Pokemon ranked 34th on the list:

aH0rE0e

All of the Pokemon that were originally ranked 24th to 33rd on the list get moved down one spot, while one Pokemon between Marowak-A and Sandslash-A gets bumped down to 24th instead.

Yes, this is how people feel about Z-moves.

I would never suggest ranking regular Pokemon moves because there's so many of them and there's a lot of them that are either shit or rather obscure (that many people probably haven't heard of). The sheer number of regular Pokemon moves makes it completely impossible to run a ranking project for that.

Z-Moves are much different than regular Pokemon moves because Z-Moves put a huge amount of focus into really flashy looking animations. There's also far less Z-Moves than regular Pokemon moves, so it's much easier ranking Z-Moves. I already pointed out there are 29 Z-Moves currently, not counting the Z-Move versions of status moves.

Xbox One ownership decreases very slightly to 26.17%. Normally I would think that it's a bad thing if the Xbox One actually had a decrease in ownership compared to the previous poll, but it's still somewhat early in the current generation and some people might be holding off their purchase to get the Xbox One X later this year.

Switch ownership increases to 28.38%. At the 4 month mark into the Wii's life cycle, it had 42.79% ownership where as the Switch only has 28.38% after the same point in time. I don't buy the excuse of the Switch shortages handcuffing its ownership on this site right now, as the Wii had the same problem when it released, and yet the Wii's ownership was about 14% higher than the Switch at the 4 month mark. The Wii and Switch both launched with a Zelda game on 2 different systems and the Switch currently has a better game library than the Wii had at the 4 month mark, and yet it's not being reflected in the Switch's ownership. Price might be affecting things somewhat, as the Switch launch price was $50 more than the Wii.

Yeah this is the biggest contrast I see in the 2 games. With Magic, the older cards are always going to be the most powerful to ever exist, and the power has decreased over time. The older formats, while not exactly well-off right now, at least have a reason to go back and play them. With pokemon, the opposite has happened, where HP and damage numbers have gone up. This means that older formats are nonexistant because, well, why would I want to go back and use a less powerful charizard? Like you could just use a standard deck in an extended tournament and roflstomp, where in magic if you used a standard deck in even a modern tournament, you would get laughed out the building.

That's probably the one thing I don't like about Pokemon. Back when I used to play the Pokemon TCG (in Gen I and II), I had a deck built around the destructive power of Chansey since it was one of the few Pokemon capable of one hit KOs on most Pokemon. Now I can't even use that deck against today's modern cards as it would get roflstomped. Not that it matters because my deck wouldn't be considered tournament legal since older sets are routinely phased out of play completely, meaning you'd have to keep buying newer cards to make sure your deck stays tournament legal.

As for the oldest Pokemon card sets, they did release a new set of Pokemon cards called "XY—Evolutions" which went back and reprinted a lot of the cards from the Gen I sets with buffed HP and attack damage for the modern TCG game.

The next ranking project should be alternate forms only. Everything that didn't get an separate ranking in their own gen (individual Lycanroc, Oricorio, Castform, etc). Also stuff with visual differences like Unown and Gastrodon. Just throw every one of them in a giant list.

Maybe a Z-Move ranking project. I mean, we did rank Mega Evolutions (which was Gen VI's gimmick) and Z-Moves is the Gen VII gimmick. Although a Z-Move ranking project would have to be held off until after the release of Ultra Sun/Ultra Moon as I expect those games to introduce even more Z-Moves. We've currently got 29 Z-Moves and that could be pushed over 40 with the new games later this year.

Although I guess it'd be a little bit harder to rank Z-Moves since you'd have to consider both the move animation and the name itself (some Z-Moves have great names). Thanks to Youtube, it shouldn't be that difficult to find a video that shows off every single Z-Move animation in a single video.

After 3 days of "Got Console?" polls, here's an update on our ownership of various systems:

3DS ownership increases to 72.69% and surpasses the DS's all-time high ownership record of 72.14%. The 3DS surpassed the DS on the 6 year anniversary of the DS reaching its highest ownership on this site.

Vita ownership decreases slightly to 38.37%. I think it's the end of the line for the Vita on this site. Looks like the Vita won't even break 40% ownership before Sony discontinues the system. The PSP was able to break 50% ownership on this site, but the Vita probably won't break 40%.

PlayStation 4 ownership increases to 65.70% and has done so very quietly. Although the PS4 has outperformed the PS3 at the 3 1/2 year mark in their respective life cycles, the PS4 has built up a rather large ownership with little fanfare. I don't really see people talking about the PS4 like it's the best thing ever, so it's impressive the PS4 has such a high ownership on this site.

It wasn't easy coming up with write-ups for every single Pokemon. There was no specific order in which I did write-ups for Pokemon. If there were Pokemon that I couldn't come up with a write-up for, I would skip over them and come back to it at a later time hoping that I could think of something later on. Hell, I actually did a write-up for Primarina very late in the submission process when I had less than 20 Pokemon left to do write-ups for, and that was my number one Pokemon.

There were a very small handful of write-ups where I put in a half-assed attempt (like Dewpider/Araquanid for example) just for the sake of having write-ups for every Pokemon.

Fun information about my list. I went and calculated average rankings by type for my list.

Fairy - 21.46
Ghost - 40.11
Psychic - 40.60
Grass - 40.93
Flying - 41.25
Steel - 43.44
Electric - 45.30
Ice - 46.00
Rock - 48.86
Ground - 49.83
Fighting - 51.00
Bug - 51.91
Normal - 57.07
Water - 60.38
Fire - 62.75
Dragon - 65.86
Poison - 66.43
Dark - 76.25

Fairy type is far ahead of the pack, even with Fairy types at 56 and 94 on my list. Water is also unusually low on my list despite 3 Water types in my top 10, except for the fact I also have 5 Water types in my bottom 10. Several other types are rather low on my list due to this generation having very few good Pokemon to represent those types.

I counted Oricorio as Fire/Electric/Ghost/Psychic/Flying, while Type: Null/Silvally was only counted as Normal.

Inviso: By the end of Gen VI, the highest Grass-type in my overall ranking was Bulbasaur, coming in just inside the top fifty. I don't much care for Grass Pokemon, you see. They're either pretty and weak, or ugly and weak, or ugly and easily surpassed by either the Fire or Water starter for any given generation. But then Rowlet came along. Sure, I'm inherently biased in favor of Litten because fire kitty, but Rowlet turned my head (180 degrees, 'cause owl.) Then the final evos got leaked and Decidueye turned out to be a total badass. Incineroar and Primarina still looked good to me (seriously, great starter trio), but they couldn't compare to an owl using its wing as a bow to fire feather arrows. That's AWESOME. AND it would give us a Grass/Flying-type that I could actually enjoy (screw you Tropius/Jumpluff). But then...Grass/Ghost. My heart sank and I was PISSED. Because not only did this remove my hopes of a Grass/Flying-type, but it also made it so I couldn't use Decidueye and Mimikyu on the same team. That sucked. But still, I pushed forward and picked Rowlet, and I'm SO glad I did. Decidueye's design is amazing (best Grass-type, as I've stated), its unique move is awesome, and it's got JUST the right talents to be useful competitively, with some bulk to keep from being a glass cannon. It's a top ten Pokemon overall, and it's definitely the best of this generation.

I don't have a problem with my in-game team having 2 or more Pokemon that share a single typing. I used 3 Fairy types in my playthrough, although they were all dual typed Pokemon where all 3 of them had different primary typings.
