I'm assuming we're equating these characters to modern American versions. The closest equivalent to Stannis in our world would likely be an atheist politician who attends church because it plays well with the masses who constantly fires people because they don't match his belief system. He wouldn't be a great president, but he wouldn't be the worst we've had.

It is enforced in the show. Stannis's actions, such as willing to sacrifice Gendry for his own power, sacrificing his daughter, shows his theocratic beliefs.

Not really. Haven't seen all of the seasons yet, so maybe the show changes him later on. But in the books (and in the parts of the show I've seen), Stannis isn't really religious. He uses Melisandre and her god because it gets results.

OEIO999 posted...
That's partially what I said, the people didn't give him that duty. Him not wanting to rule, makes him sound like a kid who doesn't want the toy, but doesn't want others to have it, since his parents bought it for him.

That's part of his rigid belief system. He is very, very big on duty. He doesn't want to rule, but it is his duty. He didn't want to marry his wife, but it is his duty. He didn't want to be Lord of Dragonstone, but it is his duty.

Also, making this post made me realize that the Tully words kind of sum up Stannis, the Starks, and the Lannisters. Lannisters are family, Stannis are duty, and the Starks are honor <_<

I was sort of debating which one, but I had missed Tywin. Tywin is unarguably the right choice.

Ned Stark is too rigid in his morals, unable to compromise to do what needs to be done.

Robert Baratheon: lol

Joffrey Baratheon: lol

Stannis Baratheon is even more rigid than Ned Stark though his morals bend a lot farther. He would be awful at diplomacy. Keep in mind that he didn't even allow his maester to call Robert his "beloved" brother in a letter.

Cersei Lannister may be the worst choice on this list. Robert and Joffrey are bad but they were not generally interested in ruling, so their advisors were able to competently govern in their stead. Cersei will prance from fuck-up to fuck-up, patting herself on the back for what a good job she's doing the entire time.

Robb Stark is a good person, but too ruled by his emotions. Both the Red Wedding and the fall of Winterfell are his fault.

Jon Snow isn't able to read the public. Hence why his policies led to him being killed. Some would argue this might be what we need though: someone who will force progress through despite what people think.

Mance Rayder might be the closest equivalent to Donald Trump. He'd be able to rally the public, but he doesn't have the experience necessary to do the job.

Daenarys is somehow too self-centered and too charitable. She also has the negative aspects of both Jon Snow and Mance Rayder: policies that the public hate and complete inexperience.

Tywin is the perfect blend.

Watching Blackwater now. The books specifically have Tyrion regretting that he has to sacrifice his own fleet to the wildfire, but says that Stannis would be smart enough to sense a trap if that were the case. Davos also isn't the commander there, so the minor fuck-ups that lead to them losing there are the fault of a minor character.

Daenarys not guarding her dragons well enough, of course.

Stannis being in the thick of battle rather than commanding.

Robb's forces being dumb enough to guard their most valuable prisoner with one man.

Funnily enough, Robert might be the only one they made smarter. The books just treat him like he's a vengeful idiot who wants to kill Daenarys for the sake of it where the show makes a valid point on why the Dothraki would be a threat.

I've read that it's not so much a pathing issue as the alien's hearing just becomes incredibly sensitive.

You know, I was googling this and came across one article. It didn't really answer anything because well, Defenders doesn't fucking answer what the Black Sky is. But it did mention that both Stick and Alexandra call Elektra a "vessel." Now I know absolutely fuck all about the Hand in the comic books, but the one thing I do know is that they worship a god called the Beast. I'm now wondering if that was the original plan.

The Hand worships the Beast. The Beast is locked away somewhere, but they don't know where. They build a global criminal empire to fund their search and eventually discover it's beneath NYC. They fuck with Rand Enterprises to buy up the property above its prison. Hell, Rand Enterprises happening to own the land above the Beast's prison could even be called part of Iron Fist's kung-fu destiny. Anyway, the Hand can't simply free the Beast for whatever reason, it needs an avatar to take physical form. For whatever reason, only a tiny, tiny portion of people are capable of being the Beast's avatar; these people are the Black Sky. They find one, a young boy, but Stick kills him and he can't be revived for some reason. They happen to come across Elektra and realize she's another Black Sky.

If I say so myself, this plot I shit out in ten minutes seems better than what we got. Hell, this improves Iron Fist too since a hidden cult that preys on teenagers is a more serious threat than a karate college that's hiding a gang.

That would make sense. They probably figured that his presence would overpower the other four (well, except Madame Gao).

Which brings up another questionable plot point. If the substance was limited and the Hand abandoned K'un-Lun solely so they could use it to gain immortality...why did they use it to resurrect underlings who died? I mean, Nobu was a good ninja, but was he SO good that you waste a little bit of dragon bone on him?

And at times it seemed like everyone forgot about the other Black Sky that Stick killed in DD1.

And then in The Defenders, they say the Black Sky was always Ripley's thing. Even though the Black Sky in DD1 was that ninja dude who was said to be working for the hunter Hand.

They really just needed to give the Hand a big, grand goal that wasn't just digging up some shitty dragonbones so they could keep living. That's pathetic.

It handles the "run-and-hide" genre pretty well IMO. A lot of those games tend to get frustrating towards the end because you aren't scared anymore, you're just annoyed that you can't grab a wrench from a janitor's closet and beat the monster to death. Having humans you can easily kill, androids you can kill with difficulty, and an invincible alien means you can mix and match the gameplay to give the player a break.

Yeah, the Defenders finished the job that Iron Fist started of making the Hand shit. Think about Madame Goa in Daredevil's first season. Wasn't she cool? This tiny old woman who had a small army of slaves that blinded themselves out of devotion to her, selling heroin marked with the sigil of the Iron Fist and knocking Daredevil back with a single punch. Or in S2 where the Hand unleashed an army of creepy, zombie ninjas and harvested innocent people for blood.

Then in Iron Fist, they're an after school program for at-risk youth. And The Defenders makes them just immortal gang leaders.

One of the last great Cracked articles is about One Million Moms
http://www.cracked.com/blog/how-archies-gay-friend-proved-internet-can-do-good/

An excerpt:
One Million Moms is a website based on intolerance and the inability to count. It's named the same way a kid might call himself Commander Badass Boobtoucher: desperate wish-fulfillment and blatant lies. Despite being an entirely online group, they only had about 40,000 Facebook fans, an accurate count both of their real support and of how many moms don't know their kids have already blocked them. By their math, I could call my dick the Pleaser of Luxembourg and it would be more accurate, because I'm only short about half a million people.
