Yup. 700MB of worthless data shoved into your hard drive that does nothing until you pay for it.

lol so it's data you're forced to keep as part of the game even if you never access it and you only buy unlocks.

xd what a disaster

This is the next level of the bullshit known as paid DLC. Now the company doesn't even shit out effortless microtransactions, they have their consumers do it for them and then they make even more money off of that.

They'll keep trying until it gets accepted. I wouldn't be surprised if they try barring free mods (thus requiring a price being set) just like how Microsoft forbade companies from releasing free DLC, thus creating this bullshit mess in the first place.

I think the problem is really just Bethesda's methods. First time was a disaster since there was 0 control and people could literally steal other people mods and sell them or put up crap and sell it. Not to mention the take Valve and Bethesda were getting that made it rather pointless for people putting the work in to go through that channel.

Now we have an issue that a game is downloading content you aren't even using.

There's probably a way to do paid mods right, I just don't think it's ever going to be from anything a developer tries.

No, the issue isn't just the game downloading content you aren't using. It's the whole concept of micro-transactions where you have to buy premium currency at designated price packages along with unoriginal content being put in the store that was already available for free.

I was just basing off what little I read from this topic. Since I expect this will blow up again and Bestheda will get forced into removing it like last time.

I disagree. PC gamers have been enjoying free mods for ages. They're not going to suddenly be okay with having to pay for them.

Shit, they started heading in that direction by delaying the creation kit until after the first couple of DLC packs were released. FOSE4 took forever to get going as well. Bethesda is trying to ruin what makes their games unique.

That's a little different because Battlefield is an online multiplayer game. Even though not everyone will buy the gear, you still need to have the files locally to have it display properly on your client. It's basically the same thing that they do in MMORPGs.

The funny thing is that according to the comments in the TC's video, it's possible to extract the files on PC with Bethesda's creation kit and basically make your own esp to allow you to use the mods without buying a key. They just freely gave you the textures but no file that allows them to run, which is easy to create yourself if you know how.

Sure, but it's funny that Bethesda managed to fuck up their implementation so badly that they gave you everything you need to pirate their "DLC."

There's also the very likely supported position that PC gamers weren't the targets of the Creation Club. PS4 didn't have mods because Sony has stringent requirements and hates playing with other people. With the CC, now they do. Let's see if the money generated is enough to offset the hit to their public relations.

Still, those prices are fucking garbage. $5 for a re-skinned suit of power armour? $1 for a coat of paint? Get your head out of your ass, Bethesda.

Battlefield doesn't make you download the Premium maps and such if you don't want to, which take up gigabytes of data. You just have skins and stuff but isn't that kinda required so that your game is able to load other people's skins and stuff?
Or did they change the map thing with BF1? I haven't played that one.

Yes, Battlefield 1 I believe downloads all new content regardless if you own it or not.

Honestly I don't have a problem with a game doing that, since it's official content I might buy in the future anyway, and I anticipate the extra data usage. But I don't like the idea of a potentially limitless mod library expanding to consume my entire hard drive.

Well for multiplayer games everyone would need to download any new dlcs since it would cause issues playing with a new item and some other player in the game not having the data for it.

There's at least a reason why a game like Battlefield 1 does this.

Fallout 4 is a single player game with no multiplayer components so it's not like you need to download every dlc released.

We don't know if this is how it's handled on consoles, though. Then, there's this:

General Known Issues:

Purchasing Creation Credits while logged into more than one XB1 profile may cause purchases not to register properly. We recommend only logging in with the XB1 profile that is linked to Bethesda.net to purchase Creation Credits.

We’re working on solutions that would not require Creation Club archives to be part of the game’s patch.

https://bethesda.net/community/topic/87400/creation-club-faq

So they're aware that it's an issue for people, and are working on a way to fix it. The likelihood that this practice will continue in the future is doubtful if the work on their backend works. They also have a fiscal reason for it as well, because this isn't like disc-locked content where you couldn't access the files easily. Still, that they didn't have this thought of beforehand is absurd. How can a company so predominately a fixture in the PC market and modding culture for the last 15 years have no idea about these types of things?

Hahaha, so true.

Seriously though, scummy business practices have been in the gaming industry since the beginning. People act like Nintendo just handed out free games to everyone and there were no other consoles until Playstation, but there was scummy stuff straight from the get-go. Hell, how many games were just blatant rip offs of other games that had the characters replaced by some recently famous character to turn it into a movie tie-in? Let's not forget that the dot from the Sprite can and Chester Cheeto had video games.
