This isn't a YouTube exclusive problem. It seems most sites are doing this now. News and Clickbait sites like CNN and TIME are leading the charge.

There's a reason mobile sites look the way they do, because of screen size. You literally don't have that problem with computers, so they don't need to do this.

There's a reason mobile sites look the way they do, because of screen size. You literally don't have that problem with computers, so they don't need to do this.

The issue is usually they're cheaping out on either design or hosting.

Found it. You click your channel icon on the upper right and there's a drop down menu. Towards the bottom of the menu is "Restore old Youtube."

I dunno, my resolution makes old youtube look like shit. Screen is tiny as hell, and I don't like full screen mode. So I kinda don't mind this youtube. Annoying as hell that clicking the side of the vid pauses it though

I like it since theater mode is bigger and night mode is nice.

I just ctrl+mouse wheel down one notch and it doesn't feel huge any more.

I hate it, whenever I add a video to a playlist, I have to click the playlist button again to take off the menu since clicking somewhere else doesn't take it off, and if it's not off and still onscreen, it won't let me use the scrollwheel and locks the screen wtf that's so dumb

I also don't like how I can't hover over usernames and see the little profile preview thing anymore

I hate the lack of clear lines or shading between sections. Everything 'flows' together and I don't like it. I switched back.

That's the trend now. Consolidation by making the desktop site the same as the mobile site. Google has a whole design called Material Design to facilitate this:

Going beyond the discussion of youtube for a bit, this idea of consolidation is extending to all applications. There's a lot of hype over web "apps" replacing everything, meaning everything is written towards a browser-like environment using HTML and CSS for UI and JavaScript for all the logic. The browser acts essentially as a virtual machine at this point. I wouldn't mind this if it wasn't so reliant on bullshit JavaScript. That's why I'm happy about WebAssembly (http://webassembly.org/), because fuck JavaScript.
