Having a bit of extra mobility certainly helps. And a good Widow can follow up on the venom mine thing, and even if they wait, it'll prevent a flank better than it currently does at the very least.

That doesn't affect the function of the ability, though - there's no practical difference if Reinhardt blocks a bunch of Junkrat grenades or D. Va eats them, because either way the grenades don't do damage to the tank's team.

Actually there is, because Reinhardt's shield sustains damage and can't be used to strategically block all incoming damage without being destroyed. Defense matrix doesn't run out of charge due to incoming damage, it runs out because you held it down too long.

Because she isn't taking damage? The point of a tank is to absorb damage, not completely dissolve it. D.Va herself gets destroyed pretty quickly when she's actually tanking.

Eating the damage helps a lot though because it not only saves yourself it saves allies as well. It being half of what it was means D.Va can't use it nearly as often. I don't think it even lasts the duration of Zarya's Ultimate after the change which is pretty huge since you could otherwise eat a ton of the damage your team might take.

Yes, it made her extremely valuable but extremely unengaging. Like, that was the biggest complaint they aimed to address. The "proper" D.Va play was focused almost entirely around defense matrix and managing that. Sure, it was a good ability, but not a fun one. This change serves to make D.Va more fun, while keeping that utility there for players who can learn how to use it efficiently.

I mean, I remember Lucio before the range nerf. He was super useful and easy to play, but one of the most boring in the game. I remember being annoyed by the changes before they took place because it sounded like he was going to become useless, since you were removing part of what made him so easy to be effective with. But obviously I was wrong, since now he's even more effective in the right hands, and also way more fun to play since speed boost feels like a necessary part of his toolkit for actual battle, and his Amp it Up can't just be thrown out constantly against an actual threat. It made me realize, "Hey, maybe game designers actually know how to make the games more fun." The only change that ever felt really bad was that initial Bastion buff, but they fixed that up pretty quickly.

The defense matrix isn't tanking, it's eating damage. It's still there, it just takes more skill to use effectively. Same with Lucio, in that they nerfed the range and increased damage, because he wasn't engaging, and now he needs more skill to use. I don't know what to tell you on Mercy. It's an ultimate. That's kind of the point. You should probably be healing, but if nobody needs healing while you use it, then may as well have something that makes it worthwhile and not a waste. And tanking is exactly what Roadhog's job is now, and his new mobility makes him look pretty damn effective. Just because we don't have it yet doesn't mean it's not happening, because it obviously is.

Oh, also the voice acting for Ouzen was legit horrendous. Like, I was supposed to think this woman was some creepy, imposing evil, but she sounded like some ghost from a 90's cartoon that elongates words because that makes it spooky. Completely took me out of that scene that would've been pretty damn effective otherwise.

Actually, just gonna give my current thoughts before bed.

Welcome to the Ballroom
I've already said how lame it is that the dancing is shown almost entirely through stillframes. Sort of takes me out of the experience. It's set up like a standard shounen sports anime, but it has way more room to grow than most due to it being a co-ed sport. This has already started allowing for some growth among the cast members, and helps to create unique situations not found in most sports shows, so hopefully that just gets better. Still, I'd like to see a sports show where someone isn't an immediate prodigy at whatever they decide to do for the first time ever. It's such a lazy way to create a protagonist the audience can relate to, while also telling a story at a regular pace. It's why One Outs is awesome, because Toua is so clearly superior to everyone and not at all relateable, therefore the story itself is far more intriguing.

Kakegurui
Started out fantastic but quickly fell into a formula that, while not bad, certainly affects my overall opinion on it. The biggest issue with how formulaic it is, is that there never feels like there's any true conflict. Yumeko always has the upperhand over the maniac gamblers and you pretty much always know she's gonna come out on top. Even when she lost, it didn't feel effective, since she immediately found out how they cheated her and proceeded to not give a shit about her new status. I really do like Yumeko as a character, but Kakegurui doesn't really have much strength as a gambling anime, when the main character is so untouchable. I guess you could say it's really about how she exposes cheaters, but that just feeds into the bigger problem of every match having the same structure. When the threat of significant loss is removed, there's not really anything to be excited about, much like how Yumeko defines true gambling. Hopefully Mary's story will provide some much needed intensity, since she's been shown to take falls and suffer afterwards.

I dunno, don't really get the hype. The biggest issue is the character design, which is, quite honestly, atrocious. Especially when they get into darker parts of the story, it feels distracting. Aside from that though... It's alright. They've done a really good job at creating lore, but haven't presented an ongoing plot to match that level of interest. Like, we're over halfway through and I still don't feel like these characters are likeable or memorable. They're not bad, but all the raiders feel like talking heads that spew lore at the viewer, while the two mains exist solely as a means to bring that lore to fruition through their journey. They haven't really established themselves as a separate entity, and it's felt like it's been dragging because of that. If that makes any sense? I dunno, it's harder to express why I think a show is mediocre rather than good or bad.

Tsurezure Children
It's definitely improved after the first episode, which did a poor job at establishing how the show would function. Thankfully, it's become pretty good. It tends to mix and match comedy-themed romances and true romances, which works really well in the small spurts. Unfortunately, there are only a couple standouts that I care about watching, while other stories don't really keep me interested. You also have the student council president/delinquent girl story, which is among the cringiest attempts at humor I've seen in a while. But the emotionless girl, jealous little sister, and love master all provide some great stories (Sorry I remember none of the names).
